It would help us try to help you if you included some locations. For example, I have Cubbage's from Kentucky that migrated to MO and Wyoming.

In my data I have a Charles Vernon Cubbage (1925-1999)- and I see that you mention a Vernon and a Charles V., so I might be able to help you, Just give us some more info.

Greetings! Hopefully someone can help me with this! I am a future Mrs. Cubbage and my good man found his biological grandfather's death certificate today (Charles V Cubbage 1943 - 1970). Thanks to this gem I was able to trace his father's side of the family all the way back to John Cubbage and Mary Jenkins-Cubbage married July 10, 1750. I'm at a dead end from that. I have no idea where they came from or who John's parents are. We don't even know where the Cubbage name originates from. Can someone help us out here?

Also, upon doing some more research, I found a grave for a Vernon M Cubbage II (1965 - 1996). I have no idea who his parents were (I can only assume Vernon M Cubbage Sr who is my fiance's great grandfather). Can someone fill me in or confirm who his mother is, please?

I have found your James on the 1860 Knox Co., IL census and see that he was born in VA. I have an ancestor, John Cubbage b 1795 in VA who has a granddaughter named Sarah Elizabeth b 1850 AR. Her mother, John's daughter, Mary was born1828 in Indiana. I am wondering if these 2 are brothers? Do you have any info on siblings of James?

Check out this link - I think a problem you might be having is the spelling of the surname - over time it has changed from cupage to cubbadge to cubbage and cubbedge... John A. W. Cubbedge is on my family tree and I believe the people you listed are his grand-kids. the link explains a little more.

Just finished indexing a page of the 1930 Federal Census and indexed 46 CUBBAGE FAMILY names.
They were from PAGE COUNTY-VIRGINIA.At the top of the page was written SHENANDOAH IRON WORKS DISTRICT...Maybe this will help you extend your genealogical search.

Jacob Cubbage married Ann Seal 12 Feb 1850, licensed in Rappahannock, married by Ambrose C. Booten of Page County. Ann was listed as the daughter of French Seal. Jacob and Nancy Cubbage are in Page County in the 1850 census, both age 24. French Seal was in Page in 1840 census, and listed in Rappahannock in the 1850 as French Seil. Evidently, Ann and Jacob were both deceased by 1860, and their sons were with grandparents. I don't have a lot on this family, was just trying to establish who various Cubbages in Rappahannock were. BTW, the name is often listed as Cabbage in Ancestry indexes.

Rappahannock County was founded by an act of the Virginia General Assembly in 1833. The county's land was carved from Culpeper County.

While I can't answer your question, I wanted to tell you that my Cubbage line uses the names George, John and Roland. My earliest proven Cubbage is George who was born 1791 - not positive where. He moved to OH, married and was the father of 10 children, including, George, John and Roland (born 1822-1826-1832). After his death his widow and children migrated to KY. I found (on the web and unproven) a suggestion that the parents of my George were John & Ellen Cubbage (both born abt 1760-65 in Delaware) - also, the same info showed that both John & Ellen died in Cullpeper County, VA. So, maybe your line comes from a brother (or cousin) of my George, and maybe both our lines were in VA in the early 1800's. Please look at Cullpeper County. It is adjacent to Rappahannock County.

Does anyone know who John Cubbage (born abt 1852) and George Cubbage (born abt 1854) that are listed on the 1860 Rappahannock County Census belong to? They are listed as living with the Seale family (French, Lucy & Strother). John is listed as age 8 and George is listed as age 6. I am trying to determine who their parents were.

The only other Cubbage living in Rappahannock at that time was Eveline, daughter of Roland, wife of Augustine. Eveline is listed as living with the family of Peter Johnson.

I have the info you are looking for from Reidsville, Rockingham CO NC. John Thomas McCubbage? Cubbage? was married to my (1C2R) Sarah Anderson Chance. They had a short marriage, Married 28 Apr 1881 & he died in a well cave in 11 Jul 1883. He was a well digger. Sarah was a writer, poet & artist. MUSCATINE, Iowa - Marion G. 'Cubb' Cubbage, 72, of Muscatine, died Sunday, February 17, 2008, at Unity Hospital.

Reverend Jerry Foote of the Mulford Evangelical Free Church will officiate the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Don McCleary, Henry Tober, Roger Tompkins, Frank Adkison, Larry Montgomery, David Bauerbach, and Bill McCormick. Burial will be in Island Cemetery.

Marion was born on September 27, 1935, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Herman and Leona Kallenberger Kyes Cubbage. He married Ardyth Elliott on February 11, 1978, in Cedar Rapids.

He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1953.

He served four years in the US Air Force.

He first worked at Home O Nize for a year and a half as a draftsman; he then worked for Carver Pump Co. for eight years in engineering and sales; he then worked as a sales representative for Torrance Electric Co. in Davenport for 28 years. He had lived in Muscatine, Cedar Rapids, and Grandview.

He enjoyed basketball, hunting, fishing, and motorcycle racing. He also enjoyed helping others with their computers and he was an all around handyman.

He had belonged to the American Legion, Elks Lodge, and the Moose Lodge, Issac Walton League, and Ducks Unlimited.

Survivors include his wife, Ardyth Cubbage of Muscatine; one daughter Cheryl Cubbage of Hermitage, Missouri; one step son Randy Brei; and one step daughter Lou Ann Lathrop of West Branch; three grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Michael Cubbage, one brother Wayne Cubbage Sr., and one step daughter Kathy Carney.

Family stories say his father had an estate in Caroline Co., but no name for him. Phillip went from Canonsburg, PA to Marietta, Washington, OH, m. Betsey (Elizabeth?) Newton in 1804. Their children; Almura/Almira m. Robert Safford, Elizabeth m. Joseph Kerr, John Price m. Caroline Questel, William m. 1826 Nancy Safford. I am interested in info on a James Cubbage who came to America in the 1780's with his wife. Lived and farmed in what is now Carnegie, PA. from 1842 to 1848. Their farm was known as "Cubbage Hill". James died on Sept. 21, 1854. Had 6 daughters. Trying to find connection between Cubbage's in Carnegie, PA. & Canonsburg, PA.

Johnson Lemuel Cubbage...Johnson L Cubbage is my ggrandfather...his son Frank is my grandfather. who was married to Nina Melson...my father was Harold Cubbage...I have letters from Ireland with the surname McCubbage dated 1883...somewhere the Mc was dropped. The letters were addressed to Reidsville, NC...took the letters to historian in Reidsville...couldn't find anything on the Cubbage name...but she did say that they might have lived in VA...and Reidsville was the closest Post Office. My family is from Ohio, I was born in Clark County.

It's my understand that we are from Irland, I even have letters from Irland...dated 1883 with the name McCubbage...the story is that the MC was dropped from last name. Who knows!!!!

I see several mentions of John H. being the son of David P., being the son of John Cubbage, being the son of Philemon Cubbage Sr.

Was this ever confirmed? I'm trying to dig up some more concrete information on this. Being as I live in Maryland, I've contacted the Sumter county Genealogical Society and requested some assistance in digging through the local records. Any information on any of these Cubbage's would be appreciated.

Johnson Lemuel Cubbage's brother Franklin was my ggg grandfather. I've heard that Johnson had a twin named John, but not sure if that is true. I believe their parents were James Cubbage & Elizabeth Ann Hoover. James is said to have had 3 wives. Elizabeth was the first. My Franklin was with the third wife Sarah Smith. I don't have any info beyond James. I would love to know where they originated - Ireland? Scotland? England? I've heard all three.

Dr. William B. Cubbage 1848-1913 and Anna J. (wife) 1865-1962 had the following:
1. Meta J. Cubbage 24 Aug. 1889-1934
2. William B. Cubbage 1 Jan. 1893- Jan. 1972
(wife) Jessie A. 1891-1962

Also, in Tittabawassee Township, Freeland, Michigan there was a:
A.J. Cubbage died 12 April, 1882 aged 48y6mo 8days.
gravestone read: "Dennison G'Ds Ohio Inf."

All these people are buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Freeland, Saginaw Co. Michigan.
If you are interested, I have a photo containing a couple of my relatives, on the back it reads: On Cubbage farm circa 1910.

I have extensive geneology that I can share with you about Peter Cubbage. My Aunt, Mary Cubbage Borry, compiled the most complete research that I have seen on our family. I have all of her records, primary documents, etc. that were passed on to me after her death two years ago. We are in the middle of moving and I don't have the records at home right now. This Isam Rogers is my John Isham Rogers s/o James Ladson Rogers, Sr. on my maternal grandmother side but I've yet to determine John's wife Catharine maiden name. They were only married a short while before she passed away and John remarried after her death in 1873.

Her name was Serepta Ann Alfonza McNeal. She married Frances Marion Cubbage. They had several children, one of whom was William Franklin Cubbage, your grandmother's father.
