I'd be very interested in the 1814 marriage record, Leah. YOu probably already know that the name Culbertson is spelled any number of ways in the records, but there really were Culbersons and Culbertsons in Georgia. They were all related, but for some reason one of the branches dropped the "T" in those years. One of those descendants was a governor of Texas and a US attorney general. All of them cousins to us Culbertsons.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Linda,

I was looking at some of the census entries of the children and I found one of them had that their father was born in Pennsylvanie.

I also think that the name might be spelled Culberson. I did find a 1814 marriage of a Samuel Culberson to a Margaret, but I cannot tell if they moved south.

I am new to this so I am not too sure.

Thanks and talk to you soon, Leah

Maybe you have some info that would help solve our own Culbertson mystery.

I thought I knew of the Culbertsons and Culbersons in Georgia. I am not aware of a Samuel Culbertson born in Jasper Co, GA, in or around 1790. I did a quick skim of my very large database and can't find a matching Culbertson, a Dean or a Jerusha. My Culbertons hadn't arrived there yet. Do you have further information? I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Best,
Linda Culbertson Pound
Susanna Wilson Culbertson of Philadelphia, 108 years old

Hello there - I am trying to discover any information I can about the woman mentioned in the attached obituary. Her name was Susanna Culbertson (maiden name: Wilson). She is said to have died at the age of 108 years old! Key details: husband is named Allan Culbertson, came to America in 1827 from Ireland, and she is also from Ireland. Has a son named James, and a grandson named Edward who I believe was Edward A. Culbertson, of the 23rd Philadelphia Infantry or "Birney's Zouaves" in the Civil War.

She was buried in the Mount Moriah Cemetery in Philadelphia (recently made the news there for being abandoned for years and then randomly closed) and I believe Edward may have been as well. Additionally I have a photo copy of the funeral program cover that says she was 108 years old, having died December 16, 1897. Her internment is listed as having taken place 3 days later on December 19th.

I think this woman may be in my family tree but need more proof. I would have thought that I could find more information about a woman who died at such an old age over 100 years ago, but I really haven't. Please help! (if you have a substantial amount of info. then let me know and I will give you my E-mail contact)

I appreciate any help I can get on this.

Thank you,
Vew5674

Luna Culbertson Shepherd

We came upon a mystery today. We went to Denver, Colorado's Fairmount Cemetery's mausoleum to decorate my husband's grandmother's crypt (I don't know if that's the right word). My husband is the only child of an only child and as far as we know, there are no other Culbertson (or Shepherd) relatives in the Denver area. Luna was born in 1862 in Ohio and died in 1954 in Denver. She was married to Orion Shepherd who is buried in Greenville, Ohio. The mystery is that someone had left flowers for Luna in the recent past. We'd love to know who left the flowers. Can you help us figure this out?

She died 1889--on January 30. The notice of her death was published in the Elizabeth Herald in January of 1890. It was customary for that paper to recap the previous year- the death did occur in 1889. She is buried at Lobbs Cemetery on Feb 2, 1889. She was married to Enoch Jester. She was my great great grandmother also.

to all culbertson searchers:
I'm looking for my greatgrandfather David Culbertson
born in Ireland. He had a son named Thomas Dale Culbertson born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on 2st of feb. 1851.
He died in Julien Township, Dubuque, Iowa in 1906. Can you
give me any leads??
I have found thousands of Culbertsons in the USA .Dr. Lewis'
Culbertson's book was of no help. He mentions some
Culbertson's going west., That would be my line.
Thanks,

Thomas Dale Culbertson, jr.

Mary "Polly" Culbertson Broadwater

My great great grandmother was Sena Broadwater, daughter of William Broadwater and Mary "Polly" Culbertson. I have seen several postings stating that Mary had 3 illegitimate daughters before she married William: Elizabeth, born 1840, Nancy, born 1837 and Levina Jane born 1834. This does not seem to compute, as my ancestor Sena was born in 1815, well before any of these ladies and presumably after Mary and William were married. These birth dates are also well after Mary and William relocated to Missouri. Other researchers have Elizabeth, Nancy and Levina Jane as the daughters of Mary's sister, Martha.

Is there anyone out there that can clear up this mystery for me.

Thanks in advance
Nancy
