I am looking for ANY information regarding Michael J. Cullinan - the son of Dennis T. Cullinan. Michael Joseph is listed as " UNCLE " to my relative John Fenwick Cullinan on his Selective Service Registration. Supposedly John was orphaned when he was 8 years old & his parents were killed in a " horse & buggy " accident. I have NO information AT all on John Fenwick BEOFRE he married(perhaps his 2nd time?)in Massachusetts to widow: Mary Agnes (nee Fitzpatrick)Kunzler. ANY info would be appreciated. - Thanks

Hey,

I've traced my family back to a John Cullinan who immigrated to VIC Australia ABT 1854 from what is recorded on his death certificate as 'Newcastle, Waterford, Ireland'. He married a 'Margaret McLaughlin' around the same time.

I think I've found him on a ship's passenger registry, which I can't read very well as its hardly legible, but i can make out 'Newcastle, Tipperary' and that he was '24'.

If your interested, let me know. If you have anything useful that can help me trace back my family further, i'd be really grateful. My email address is bgcullinan@gmail.com.

Cheers.

Looking for info on the following Cullinan/Cullin family who all lived in Medina, Ohio as of 1880:

1. John Cullinan - Born about 1815 in Ireland. Farmer in Medina.

2. Mary Cullinan - Born about 1823 in Ireland. Wife of John. Maiden name unknown.

3. Thomas Cullinan (Cullin) - Born 3/18/1855 in Ohio. Died 10/27/1913 in Bay City, Michigan. Son of John and Mary Cullinan. Farmer in Medina, Ohio and then later he worked on the railroad in Michigan.

4. Mary Cullinan (Cullin) - Born about 1863 in Ireland. May have died in Detroit, Michigan possibly in April of 1946. Wife of Thomas. Maiden name unknown. Was the sister of Alice Turney (Tierney?) who lived in Cadillac, Michigan as of 1895. Was the niece of Julia (Slattery) Horan of Bay City, Michigan.

Thomas and Mary Cullinan (Cullin) were married in about 1879 or 1880 in Ohio. By 1900, they lived in Bay City, Michigan and went by the name of Cullin. Their name was sometimes incorrectly spelled as Cullen in some publications and records. After Thomas died, his wife Mary continued to live in Bay City up until her death.

Hi, Tom. This might be helpful to me. We spell the name "Callinan" but we believe we're from Cooraclare. I know for sure that my great-grandfather was Thomas Callinan and he married Maria Ryan from Kilmihil in 1884; see http://www.kilmihil.com/history/genealogy/marriage/marriage..... I think I may have found his parents' wedding in Cooraclare in 1855; see http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ances try.com/~msjenkins/records/kilmcmar.htm. This was a wedding between John Callinan and Mary Sullivan, witnessed by a Thomas Callinan. This couple could have had a son named Thomas in the late 1850s, which is when we believe our Tom was born. If you can shed any light on this couple or on Callinans in Kilmacduane/Corraclare, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

My husband is descended from a Catherine Cullinan from Ennis, County Clare but it seems that we have hit a brick wall. We know that her parents were Michael & Mary (nee Maloney)Culinan. Other than that we only know that she had siblings Honore born C1823, Cornelius born C 1824 Margaret born C 1833 Patrick born C 1833, John born C 1841 and also Mary who gave the information on John death certificate in 1891, when he drowned after being in Australia only 10 months. Mary O'Hare then was a widow and laundress but that is all that we know of her.
Catherine who was born C 1838 or 9 married Thomas Murray in Sydney and had 5 children.
Honore married Thomas Lynch and came to Australia with him , John was married to Susan O'Dea when they emigrated with 7 children. Cornelius married Ellen ? and had 12 children bornin Australia, Margaret went to Victoria and married Patrick Curry, they had 7 children
Just wondered if anyone was tracing any descendants of Michael & Mary Cullinan from Ennis County Clare.
denire1

My wife has a Lot (or "Lott") Cullinan in her family tree. Lot was born in Ireland about 1816 and came to Ayer, MA, before 1880. He had a son named Dennis E., born between 1848 and 1853, either in Ireland or Massachusetts. There may have been more children, of course. Family legend is that these people came from Co. Clare. They are in the 1880 US Census for Ayer. Dennis' wife, called "Hanora" in the census, was named Honora or "Nora" Keating. Does this branch tie into any else's Cullinans from Clare/Massachusetts?

Map of Cullinan/Cullinane in Ireland

For the Cullen Family DNA Project, I have created some maps showing where Cullinan, Cullinane, and Cullen families lived in Ireland based on Griffith's Valuation which was conducted around 1848-1864. You can probably buy maps like these somewhere, but I made them myself.

I'm trying to determine if any Cullinan/es share a common origin with any Cullens. Two things could have happened: the original Gaelic surname was anglicized to Cullinan/e in some places/families and Cullen in others, or over time, some Cullinan/es have had their name "simplified" to Cullen. On my maps you can compare clusters of each of the three surnames.

Partly based on my maps, I believe my own Cullen family from Co.Tyrone could be related to Cullinans from Tyrone (and also to Cullens in Donegal where Cullinan was once said to exist).

We are trying to answer this question, and many others, through genetic genealogy at the Cullen family DNA project.
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/c/cullen/

There are already 11 Cullens in the project, and we just welcomed our first Cullinane (of course, his family now goes by Cullinan)! Take a look at our website and get in touch if you have any questions.

Thanks, Bernie Cullen

The Cullinane/Cullinane map is at
http://cullengene.blogspot.com/2006/08/cullinanecullinane-di...
and the Cullen map is
http://cullengene.blogspot.com/2006/07/cullen-distribution-m...
(or just go to http://cullenegene.blogspot.com and look/search for it).

For specific numbers of Cullens by county go to:
http://www.ireland.com/ancestor/ and enter Cullen in the surname box
in the center of the page.

For a complete index to Griffith's with first and last names,
townland, civil parish and county, go to:
http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.htm

You can find the location of civil parishes in each county at the
ireland.com site.

ccfgpw/Manasses Cullinan of Clogher, Tyrone

I have been investigating Cullinans in Clogher civil parish, Co. Tyrone, because my Cullen ancestors appear in the records as Cullinan, Cullin, Cullian, Cullion etc.

I found a birth record on microfilm for a Manasses Cullinan, and then I found a web page that talks about his family: Cullinan & Cullinane Family Genealogy Project Website. But it seems out of date.

Does anyone know this Manasses or where he got that unusual first name?

from
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ccfgpw/index.htm

on Our Irish Homelands--Tyrone page
Omagh and Fivemiletown - not known
Manasses Cullinan lived at Fivemiletown, near Omagh, County Tyrone in the mid-1800s. Of his three sons, only Peter (who m. Lynch) and Rev. Joseph Cullinan, a Diocesan Priest in Tyrone, have been identified. Peter had 4s2d, all born at Tatnadavney, Clogher, County Tyrone: Joseph, Manasses (-1945), Rev. Patrick Cullinan (-c1935), Rev. William Cullinan (-c1935), Minnie Cullinan (-c1950) and a daughter who married John McGirr. Plate CXXII.

end of message
Hi..

My Great X 3 Grandfather was a John Cullinan born in 1826 in Ennis Co.Clare Ireland..He emigrated to Canada (New Brunswick) around 1845..he was married to Frances (Fanny) Moran..but I don't know if they were married in Ireland..(Co.Clare perhaps??) or on the ship crossing over the Atlantic..or once they arrived in North America..or even if they met after both arriving in North America..
Frances (Fanny) Moran was born in 1828 in Ireland..(County Unknown) and emigrated also around 1845..probably due to the Great Famine that wracked Ireland in those days.
John Cullinan died on February 27th 1895 in St.John New Brunswick Canada.
Frances (Fanny)(Moran) Cullinan died on December 9th 1901 also in St.John New Brunswick Canada..she was listed as 72 years of age..which would support a birth year of around 1828..
Thier second child and first born son..was my Great X 2 Grandfather..Micheal Joseph Cullinan..who married Catherine (Kate) Carey who was said to be born in the USA..Micheal Joseph Cullinan was also said to be born in the USA..the state of Maine or MASS perhaps???
In one of your posts..i saw that in 1827 that there were only 2 Cullinan's in the area..and my Great x3 would have been only 1 year old at the time of the census or survey...
Could he be one of your relations???
I don't know any of John Cullinan's siblings..or Frances (Fanny) Moran's...

If you want to compare notes please contact me...

richard_cullinan_1944@yahoo.com
richard_cullinan_1944@shaw.ca

Regards

Richard Cullinan

Thomas Allen Cullinan - that's someone who is pretty tough to track down. The Kansas State Genealogical Society wrote up a pretty impressive biography, which attests to his travels and toughness. But what became of his children - he had several sons, but no grandchildren to carry the surname. There were several daughters, but again, I don't know if the names are carried on, or if the lines simple died off, which is sad. I tried to find his family in Kilrush, Co Clare - no luck. Believe he had a brother, whose name appears in a few obits from that period. Not much luck with Tom Allen. Anyone want to add? Any present-day family members?

James Cullinan

Looking to confirm information on my grandfather James Cullinan. I believe he was born Oct. 24, 1878 in Ballenasloe, County Gallway, Ireland. His family were butchers and James immigrated to U.S. in 1902. He died in Feb. 1968 in Brooklyn, N.Y. His wife was Mary O'Halloran, and I have little information about her.

mary cullian/william Keily

I've been researching my family tree for a while. My Great Great Grandfather William Keily (Kiely) wife was Mary Cullinan (Cullinane) I have a feeling that they may have been from Waterford before going to Clonmel. The Children were John Kiely (my great grandfather who came from Clonmel to Australia (Queensland) around the mid to late 1870s. The IGI lists two other children Johanna born in 1864 and Patrick born in 1867. There may also have been other children (Mary, Margaret and Nora) William may have been a farmer. Rumor has it that that three Sisters emmigrated to the United States. Any assistance would be to help trace more history would be appreciated. Thank you.
