Thank you so very much for the info on Golda Cummings. I figured she had died but did not know when nor where. She surely lived to a ripe-old-age!! I am wondering how or where you happened upon Golda's info?
Are you connected to the Cummings family in any way? Wondering if there might be any other Cummings info we might be able to share?
Evelyn H.
eahk@juno.com

David Cummings, Appleton, Maine

I have no connection to this family, but found this while doing other research. This appeared in the May 28, 1918 issue of the Rockland (Maine) Courier Gazette in the "Appleton" column:

"David Cummings died May 19, after being in poor health for some time. Since his wife’s death he has made his home with relatives. He was born in Appleton and has been a life long resident of the place except for the past three years he has spent his winter in Rockland with his son, W.O. Cummings. He had many friends and was always genial, cheerful and ready to do any one a favor. He leaves four children, W.O. Cummings of Rockland, V.K. Cummings whose home is in Virginia, Mrs. Lucy Godspeed of Duxbury, Mass, who came to help care for him in his last illness, Mrs. Iza Richards of Braintree, Mass. Also two grandsons, Harry and Edgar Pierce which he brought up from infancy to manhood. He has several other grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday,, May 21, at the home of his sister and brother, Mrs. Lizzie Chapman and Alex Cummings. One other sister, Mrs. Freelove Pinckney of New York City, and one other brother, Joseph Cummings of Weymouth, Mass., neither of whom were able to attend the funeral."

In your Surnames you are researching, I have three of the same names: Cummings, McMillan & Livingston. I have always known the Livingston name was in my father's family, but recently found out my Grandfather's Great-grandmother's maiden name was Cummings. She was Sarah Jane Livingston, was married to William H. Livingston, whose mother's maiden name was Melinda McMillan. Both Sarah & William were born in New York according to a census in Wisconsin, where they lived. They had Ida, William, Walter and Anson Livingston. Could you please let me know if you have further details? Thanks.

Contact me at Dollhouse383@aol.com and I'll see if any of your surnames coincide. I just found over 1,000 corresponding surnames that fall into this line. I'll help if I can. Alison

William Cummings (1812-1900)

I am searching for a birth record for my gg grandfather, William Cummings, who was born 1812 in Maryland. He came to Kansas (Atchison County) from Pennsylvania in about 1855 and married Sarah Ann Quiett in 1856. I know all of his history from 1856 to the time of his death in 1900. What I am trying to find out is exactly where in Maryland he was born, after that where in Pennsylvania he lived and then the route he took to Kansas in 1855. He farmed in Pardee, Center Township, Atchison County, Kansas. Family stories passed down say that his mother died the year he was born, father remarried. He moved to Pennsylvania to live with an uncle named McIntosh who owned an iron works. Would appreciate anyone who can offer tips as to where to search. Thank you!

I believe it was in Independence Co., Arkansas but need to confirm if I have the right family.

To respond to your query, it is suspected that Matthew Cummings was Levi Cummings' father. Check early Halifax Dist. Virginia records.

I had a couple of Cummings ancestors, David and William, and their sister Sarah (Sallie) Cummings Sutherland (wife of Silas) living in Ontario during the War of 1812. They had gone there from Dutchess County NY in about 1803, but David and family were back across the border in Niagara County NY by 1829, and David and William were later in Indiana (1840) and David in Michigan. Another sibling, Major Cummins was on the Niagara frontier and subsequently also in Indiana. I expect they were not Militia members, though.
But, so is a dau Ellnora/Eleanor who is actually the wife Theresa's dau from a prior marriage, a Dunham..so William can either be a son of Guy W. Cumming and Theresa Rosshirt Dunham Cumming or a son of Guy's from a previous marriage or a son of Theresa Rosshirt and Cyrus Dunham, her first husband. I have a marriage record for Guy and Theresa in 1917. They are living at the same address as Theresa's parents on the 1916 Los Angeles, CA Voter Registration. I have been unable to locate William Cumming in CA birth records. Can anyone help?

While I don't yet know of any Floyd Arvin (or similar) in the tree, I did check out 'Floyd Arvin Cummings, USAF' as the army generally keeps on its past & present members. This immediately yielded info from 'http://www.salidachevy.com/dealership/staff.htm' in Salida, Colorado. There's a Floyd CUMMINS on their staff who seems to fit the bill:
"I've lived in Salida since 1965 ..........I served in the U. S. Air Force Security Service as Russian language specialist/ interpreter/ analyst during the cold war era and was stationed at Misawa Air Base in Japan ......."

Contact phone numbers & email are given.

all the best,
Mandy
Hi Pat,
A decade later, I don't know how far on you are with your tree, but I've been researching a number of Cummins' who moved to Birkenhead in Cheshire.

My main 'one' is a Richard Cummins, son of Lawrence C & Mary Toole of Coolatin Co. Wicklow (nb. sometimes Coolatin comes under Kilkenny Jurisdiction), and Grandson of John C & Ann Bicaby (Wicklow). Anyway Richard, James & Lawrence are v. big Cummins family names & my Rich was living with various brothers in Birkenhead in 1851. His brother James is noted as unmarried in 1851, but i think yr. James must be v. closely related, a cousin perhaps?

Anyway, I'll look around and see if anyone crops up.

All the best from sunny but freezing Zürich,
Mandy

Sarah Cummings, b. 1792 in Virginia

I am looking for any and all information on Sarah Cummings who was b. abt. 1792 in VA and d. 18 May 1862 in Pike, Knox County, Ohio. She was married first to a man with the surname Fogle and had a daughter with him, named Margaret Fogle. Margaret was b. Dec 1823 in VA and d. 26 May 1906 in Loudon Township, Fayette County, Illinois.

Sarah's first husband must have passed away before 1830 because by that year Sarah remarried to a man named Benjamin Grubb and they had three daughters together; Mary, Sarah and Susannah.

I have much information on Sarah Cummings' descendants, but nothing on her as far as her parents, grandparents, etc. are concerned. I would like to find more about Sarah, and if anyone has any information they could share I would be grateful.

Thank you in advance!
