Hi Judy,
I am 3xGreat granddaughter of William Augustus cupitt, and GGgrandaughter of George (8th child).
I were wondering do you know if we have any connection at all with the Cubit line in the UK? On the Ganges passenger list his name is George Cubit along with Mary and all of his children also named Cubit. There are many cubits in the UK from Norfolk.

My grandfather's brother, Tom Cupit of South Wingfield, left for New Zealand on the SS Rimutaka in April of 1907. My grandfather, Edward, arrived in the U.S. in 1886. He settled in Utah and after his first wife died, married my grandmother Elizabeth Haslam, also from England. I live in Eagle, Idaho with my wife, Sharon. We would be interested in communication with you.

We have her 2x great grandfather, as James Cupitt 1780, married Grace Walker.
he is the son of Joseph Cupit 1755 South Wingfield.
Son of Joseph Cupit 1723 & Mary Wetton.
Maybe the one born in 1785 is a brother of James 1780.

Joseph Cupitt was born 1755 South Wingfield Derbyshire & his father was Joseph Cupitt born 1723 Not sure where. but he married Mary Wetton in 1748 in South Wingfield Derbyshire.

William Augustus Cupitt first married Lucy Freeman who died at age 22 and they appear to have had 2 childre, William & Mary. William then married Rebecca Charlton, but it would appear that she was 49 years old hen they married!! Is this correct as they appear to have had several children accredited to them!! Has anyone more precise details on this union please??

I'm working on some Cupits for a friend. I have:
Jesse Cupit, b abt 1905, Louisiana.
In the 1910 census he was age 5, with his parents and 11 siblings in Police Jury Ward 4, Franklin, Louisiana.

Jesse's parents were
William Richard Cupit, b Mar 1871 in Mississippi; died in Bernice, LA;
and
Julia Rushing, b Apr 1870, Mississippi.
William & Julia marr 25 Nov 1891, Jefferson Co., MS

William's parents were:
Joseph S. Cupit b 14 Nov 1844 MS; d 28 Jun 1928;
and
Rebecca Byrd, b 2 Mar 1845 MS (I think her parents were Henry Rushing & Mary Ann [--?--]).
Joseph & Rebecca marr 21 Oct 1863, Franklin Co, MS.

That ought to tie you in to Glenn's info, if it is the right Jesse.

I'm looking for information on a male named Jessie Cupit. He was my Father's father, but died when my father was a young buy, and his mother, Jessie Lee Fatheree, remarried to a Richard Posey, which is really who raised him. His death was sometime in the 39's or 40's at the latest, we believe.

My father, his sister and my Grandmother are deceased, and I have not really had contacts with any Cupits my entire life, except for my immediate family.

My father, Alfred William 'Buddy' Cupit 1929–1989, and his sister, Della Jean Cupit 1927–199x. His mother, Jessie Lee Fatheree 1907–2004.

I have built a large tree of most of my family, but at my father's father, it is a total dead-end.

Wm Augustus Cupitt was the first Australian born Cupitt and one of ten children (four boys) born to George & Mary Cupitt nee Wicks. There is a possibility of a stillborn child between the second and third child. The fifth born child was a George Cupitt who was my GG grandfather. I have a fair bit of of info regards Wm A & Rebecca - Joseph & Martha Cupitt which I am willing to swap for further info re the Beaver family.

I can provide info re the Cupitt line back to mid 1600's. I have also written a book which provides details of my Cupitt line back to the 1600's. My email address is ewc1546@hotmail.com

My earlier post may have been wrong.I have gone back to my records and understand from them that Austin CUPITT was married to a Mary. They had several children including a George who married a Mary Wicks.

George and mary had several children including a son William who married a Rebecca Charlton. One of their children was a Joseph CUPITT who married Martha Dowsett.
Joseph CUPITT was the father of my grandmother Alice who married a BEAVER.

I have no additional information about the family tree for Austin CUPITT or the family tree prior to that point.

If you can assist me any further I would be most grateful as I have exhausted the oral history that my late Uncle shared with me some years ago after my granmother passed away.

There appears to be two marriages by William. Rebecca CHARLTON in 1853 and to Lucy Freeman in 1823.

I am related to the CUPITT line through my grandmother who was a daughter of Joseph CUPITT.

I am related to the CUPITT family line through my granmother Alice Angelina CUPITT a daughter of Joseph CUPITT who married a BEAVER. Joseph married Martha Dowsett in 1839 and Died in 1923.

I am also reseaching the CUPITT family.
My fathers mother was Alice CUPITT daughter of Joseph CUPITT and Martha Dowsett who married Thomas Beaver.
I have some information that I would be happy to share and to validate against your enquiries.
I have only got back as far as an Austin CUPITT who I understood had married a Mary Siddall on 17 April 1769 in UK. I am not aware of a brother George.

You said you had a couple of Dykes and Dickens. Which ones? William Milton Dickens and his neice, Fannie Dickens are buried at Peidmont, along with Jewel Dykes, nephew of Milton Dickens wife, Hattie Dykes. Are these the ones you were referring to?

I have been to the cemetery and have pictures of all the Cupit headstones. Thanks for the offer. My Dad spends about half the year near McCall Creek.

I have a couple of Dykes and Dickens but none were tied to the Cupits. I have to assume the must have attended Peidmont. I know the cemetery is a church cemetery but have to assume that it's congregation was mostly Cupits.

Gerald,

I read one of your earlier posts where you were looking for burial locations. If you have not found Jeff and Cordelia's, they, along with at least two of their children, are buried in the old Piedmont Cemetery, located in the Homochita National Forest in Jefferson Co.

There are many Cupits buried at Piedmont. In fact, by far the most burials were Cupits. Although there were a couple Cupit marriages into my Ezell/Emfinger family, I am not a Cupit researcher but I took down the info off the tombstones.

My curiosity stems from the Dickens/Dykes related family who are also buried at Piedmont. This seems to be a Cupit cemetery and I do not know of a Cupit connection to either Dickens or Dykes. Even tho Piedmont is likely a church cemetery (the old church building is still standing nearby), it is curious the Dickens and Dykes are buried there amongst all the Cupits.

I have a listing of Piedmont, if you are interested. Not being a Cupit researcher, I don't know the relationship of all the Cupits buried there.

In reply to your reaserch on the cupit family, the name originates in England Linconshire, in the early 1700's the family then moved on to Liverpool, Notingham, (which is close to Linconshire,) and some moved through Liverpool to Ireland, and america.
Prior to Linconshire I believe that the origins are Cupar angus nr Dundee in Scotland, the name may well have originated as Cupar ite, meaning one from Cupar.
I have more info of the origin in Linconshire, and Liverpool Cupits as that is where I originate.

With reference to your research on the cupit name, the reaserch I have done, is the Cupits originate in Linconshire England, branches of the Family moved to Nottingham, Mersyside,(Liverpool) and America, I have more info on dates and villages if you ask, My father visited Linconshire last year and visited graves dating back to the 1700's.
The family moved to linconshire from Cupar Angus nr Dundee scotland prior to 1700, I think that is how the name originates Cupar ite, as in one from Cupar.
