My name is Scott Kurt. My father William L. Kurt was raised in Cascade, Iowa. His father was Leo Kurt a son of Peter Kurt. Leo's wife my grandma was Hilda Manternach. Peter Kurt was my great grandfather. I am sorry for not posting what I have learned about my/our families genealogy. I started researching in the late 80's and hired a professional researcher in the early 90's. I hope this will give you the "o-wow" feeling I had when I found out more? !
To answer some of the items from these threads, here is some of what I know: (I have copies of the documents this information comes from) (and pictures of Peter Kurt and his family) and the Peter Kurt farm. I also have a small picture of John B. Kurt and his wife Anna Ternes/Turnis. The names are often misspelled in the records. The Kurt name was originally spelled Kurth in the records from Luxembourg. I think they dropped the "H" when they got to the U.S. because it is silent anyway? After doing much of the research I went to Cascade with my dad and found the family buried in one neat line at St. Mary's cemetery. It would have saved me so much work if I'd went there first. ;-)! One of the stain glass windows in the St. Mary's church was paid for by John B. Kurt and Anna Turnis. It has an inscription below it. The Luxemburg Gazzette Obituary is translated: "On Monday, the 4th of this month, John B. Kurt died suddenly at Cascade. The same was born at Hesperingen, emigrated to the United States in 1952, came directly to Iowa and settled in Cascade Township, Dubuque Co., Iowa. Kurt leaves a grieving widow and eleven children, 7 boys and 4 girls in good circumstances. Kurt was an industrious, thrifty man. His mortal remains were buried in the community's cemetery. May he rest in peace! "
I also found an obituary from an english language Cascade paper from the time. It goes into a little more detail. Too long to write here. I have many newspaper articles collected by my great aunt Katherine Muller. She gave me a folder with a brief genealogy to get me started and a large folder with family newspaper clipping copies from the 1940's? onwards. Some of your family members are probably in them. Here's a short Kurt(h) side family tree. Brief branches were listed from other related families in the research. Peter Kurt (spouse Mary Hosch) Born 3 July 1872, marr. 22 Sep 1895. died 8 July 1939. Have pictures of young and old.
His Father John B. Kurt born 8 August 1840, Hesperange, Lux Died 4 Aug 1884.
His father was Johan Kurt (a wheelright)came on boat with young John B. to U.S.(might have right boat name haven't confirmed it) born 16 Apr 1812 Altzingen, marr. 4 June 1838 Hesperange, Lux Died: 17 Dec 1873 Cacade, IA (spouse Maria Meysenburg Born 22 Oct 1807 Altzingen, Lux Died: 2 Dec 1865 Cascade)
His Father was Johannes Kurth (a farmer) born: 13 March 1768 Altzingen, Lux. Marr.:9 Jan 1799 Altzingen Died: 5 Dec 1827 Hesperange, Lux. Spouse Maria Margaretha Berchem/Bergem? born 15 Dec 1775 Altzingen.
His Father also Johannes Baptista Kurth/ misspelled Corth on some records. Born: 21 Apr 1738 Canach, Remich, Lux. Died 14 Sept 1791? , Altzingen, Lux. Spouse Margaretha Girdt/Gindt/Ginth? born July 1743, marr. 9 March 1766 Altzingen, christened 16 July 1743 and died on 21 Sept 1781 in Altzingen.
His father Danielis Corth/Kurth born: about 1694 Canach, Lux Died: 3 Nov 1751 Canach. Marr: 5 Feb 1719. Spouse Susanna Vey Died: 24 Jan 1772.
His father and last ancestor in Kurth line found so far: Jean Daniel Kord/Kurth Birth? Died? Spouse: Catharina Anna Clemens Born ???
I have quite a bit of info I haven't put in digital form yet? Please E-mail me if you'd like to find out more when I have time to write. You have to share what you have and know! Scott Kurt E-mail: Berserkr@charter.net put "Kurt History" in subject line.

Hi Adrian,
I will be more than happy to assist you if I can. Do you have any other information on your Father ? Is he still living ? Do you have any information on any Aunt's or Uncle's (your Fathers brothers and/or sisters). Somethimes you have to find a brother or sister to find the grandparnets.
I have information on only one Frederich Curt, born about 1877, this might be your Grandfather and then again it may not. His brothers are listed along with his parnets, Edward and Susannah Curt. His age would fit the time frame for your Fathers birth in 1915. This Frederich's brothers are listed as: William, Charles, Edward, George, Thomas, Joseph, and Henry. No sisters are listed.
You may post a reply here or you may email me directly if you wish. Looking forward to talking to you, Nina BrtMoon96@aol.com

He would be at least 50 yrs old (Probebly born before 15 Jan 1943) as he was born several yrs before his brother who is now 42. Mr. Curt had 3 son's and shortly before his death 5 Sep 1995 was the first time the two youngest boys ever heard about having a brother as the brother had resided in Florida? with his mother as a child. The son I'm loooking for came to see Mr. Curt just before his death with his family and may have been at the funeral.
The son who is now 42 would like to get to know his older brother.
Please email me with any info you may be able to provide.
Thank you

P.s. I believe his was born before 1943 because on Joseph's Military record he enlisted as single with dependants

Grandfather married a Anna Turnis and We have his Parents listed as John Kurt and Mary Misenbur. If you have any info it would be greatly appreciated.
