I don't have any additional information on the Hays since beyond Ann they are not blood relatives. However, these families were certainly connected. James Curtain's sister Elizabeth married Bernard Dougherty. My guess is that Bernard and the William you mention were brothers? I have not been able to determine if Bernard and Elizabeth ever had children. It seems that Bernard died within 10 years of the marriage.

I am researching the Hay family. Around 1795 Ann became guardian of a William Hay ,son of William Hay,. James Curtain is also mentioned. I'm looking for parents of Ann Hay. I'm not sure if this family was from Pennsylvania or maybe Maryland.<br>1794 in the records of Zion German Lutheran Church, Baltimore, William Hay had a son he named William Daugherty Hay. The sponsor was William Daugherty.

Yes, I'm virtually certain that the James, married to Ann Hay, that you mention is the son of my James Curtain who was born in 1740. James Jr. I think was married around 1780. I am descended from James Curtain Sr.'s daughter Mary who married Lewis Shackelford in 1806. There were also siblings of Mary named Thomas and Elizabeth (Dougherty). James Sr. was a butcher as were his sons James and Thomas. I've hoped to discover more about James Sr. such as his wife's surname (Mary unknown) who I believe he married in Baltimore as well as his point of origin. Thanks for your posting. Are you related to James and Ann Hay?

If your Curtin ancestry is from Brosna, Co Kerry or the Rockchapel, Co Cork, area and over to Mt Collins, Co Limerick, then your line most probably is covered by Curtin Books 1, 2 and 3. These books are heavy, large, bound with soft covers and have stories on Curtin and related families in these areas.<br>If interested in details email me privately

I am trying to get information on a William Curtain who came to USA from Ireland. He was born about 1815. He married Elizabeth Stout Inman in Dent County Missouri in 1866. They had 3 children Mary Elizabeth Curtain who married John William Hubbs, William Curtain who married Elizabeth Hoodenpyle and Amy Cela Curtain who married Alvin Kenneth Duckworth. William is my gggrandfather. I have him in Dent County on the 1860 Census living with Patrick and Catherine Curtian. The last census I can find him on is the 1880 Current,Dent County census. I would love to find a death certificate, his full name, where in Ireland he lived, and his parents and siblings names. Any help would be appreciated.
I hope you can help. I'm sorry I do not have much to go on.I am related to William Curtain born 1815 in Ireland. Died in 1890 in Dent County Missouri. Both his parents were born in Ireland. He married Elizabeth Caroline Inman (Stout) in 1866 in Dent county. She had 10 children from a prior marriage and together they had 3 more. Mary Elizabeth 1867-1940 Dent County Missouri. She married John William Hubbs. William born 1868 - ? dent county missouri and Amy Cela 1871-1947 dent county missouri. She married Alvin Duckworth. I found all this in the Dent County archives, I did find a William Curtain who was on a 1860 Fed. US Census residing in Hebron Connecticut in Tolland County. He was living with a family named Strong. He was 45 yr. That's it. I am having a hard time finding any info on him. Where he lived in Ireland, his parents, when he came here, where he was until 1866. Any help you can give me will be appreciated. Thank you,<br>Pam

I am NOT researching Scannell or CURTAIN (or any names listed here); this obit was on the same page as another for a friend. I expecially like it because it gives the place of birth in Ireland for the deceased as well as his wife's maiden name - which is somewhat rare:<br><br>The Chicago Daily Tribune, April 3, 1950,. page C6:<br>"Death Notices...<br>SCANNELL--Jeremiah J. Scannell, beloved husband of Margaret, nee Ahern; fond father of Mary Gruber, Officer James R., Margaret Mancatch [Moncatch?], Jeremiah J., and Eamon J.; grandfather of three; brother of John, Patrick, Michael, Ned, Richard, Joseph, Ann Curtin, and Margaret. Native of Aghada, Rostellan, County Cork, Ireland. funeral Tuesday, 9:30 a.m., from chapel, 3100 Irving Park road, to St. Veronica's church. Interment St. Joseph's cemetery. member of Division 241, Elston depot, and St. Veronica's Holy Name Society."<br>===end.

James Curtain of Baltimore

I'm seeking information about James Curtain of Baltimore. He was born around 1740 and died 1802. He lived near Fells Point and had 5 or 6 children. At the time of his death he had been in America for 27 years, so he arrived around 1775. I believe that he was a Protestant rather than Catholic, since there are records for his family in St. Paul's Protestant Episcopal church registry. Any connections?
