Palmer is Eva Cushman's brother.
You found what I have found. There has to be a answer in Jefferson co. It appears everyone on both side of family was from Rodman, Jefferson, New York.
Brick wall with fred.
Jewell

Jewell: Can you give us any additional info about your Fred Cushman. Did he have a middle name. Do you know the names of his parents, etc? Need more to go on. For example, I see a Fred W. Cushman about the right age showing up as divorced but there is no way to know whether this is your guy.

There is Erie County, PA marriage record for his son Palmer C Cushman b 1906, son of Fred Cushman and Julia Waterman married Bernice E McLane b 1903, daughter of Raymond Bull and Helen Rose. They were married 18 Jul 1933 Erie, Erie, PA

There is a Jefferson Co. NY marriage record for his daughter, Eva Cushman b 1903, daughter of Fred Cushman and Julia Waterman who married Harold A Kellogg , b 1901. Married on 6 Jun 1922 in Jefferson Co, NY.

1900 Census of Rodman Township, Jefferson Co. NY shows Julia C Waterman, b Aug 1877 NY living with her father and mother. This is even before your finding that she was living with them in 1910.

Cushman, Kushman/Kushner, Bernardin

M great uncle Charles Kushner died in Queens, Ny in 1912. He and his wife Julia Marcini Kushner had 3 living children, Alexander Charles, DOB July 5, 1895 or 96, Joseph, DOB January 1898 or 1899, and louise Kushner, DOB September 3, 1899 (have her birth certificate). I was unable to locate any records under Kushner for them after Charles death. However, under name Cushman, I was able to locate them in 1920 census in NY and Julia and Louise in 1930 census in California. Louise was married to Joseph Bernardin. I've located Julia's death record online in Contra Costa county for October 29, 1965. I also located a date of death for Alexander in Feb 1960 in San Francisco and Louise Bernardin in Feb 1981 in Richmond California.
I would be interested in any info on the above as I believe they are related to my family. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

John clancy

Re: Robert Henry Cushman, b. Galveston, TX 1890

Thanks, that's very interesting. Even attended his funeral..wow? Thanks for sharing that. I haven't done much research on the Cushman line.. yet, but there seems to be quite a few in, and around Texas.

Here's some additional info I've found that may, or may not be helpful in finding relatives of Robert Henry Cushman. Honestly, I don't know how far to take this? Would much rather hear back from somebody on his side of the family first.

Anyway, this is the rest of what I've found in my search.. so far.

There's a Robert Cushman living in a House for Homeless Children in Galveston, on the 1900 census. Not positive it's the right person, but his birth year (correct month too) sure seems to match up. Arthur and Jennette are other Cushmans listed as living there at the same time, and may possibly be siblings.

1910, found another Robert Cushman, still in Galveston, right age too. Living with a Greenberg family, and listed as a Brother-in-law. About 99% sure it's him.

1920, found Robert Cushman (exact birth date too) marrying a woman named Helen Dwyer in El Paso, Texas. They later had a daughter together. Not sure what happened between Robert and Helen, or if it ended in a divorce? 99.9% sure they're talking about the same guy.

When he married my g-Aunt Josephine Norton, I believe it was his 2nd marriage, and her first. As far as I can tell, Robt & Josephine never had any children together. Being able to view the 1940 census may change that, but I seriously doubt it. They married much later in life, and kids are unlikely.

I really appreciate you trying to help, but those don't sound like the right Cushmans.

Ya know, I've looked over my notes again and forgot, I already figured out months ago that Robert had 2 sisters, Isabella and Clara.

Isabella married a Greenberg, or Groenberg... that's what her death certificate says. And Clara became Clara Onetta Nyberg. They both appear to have lived in the Galveston/Houston area for life. Robert was living with his sister Isabella and her family in 1910. They're on the census record together.

We know so little about my relative Josephine (Norton) Cushman, that the only thing left to do is... try to get in touch with some Cushman descendants. See if anybody knows anything, or has any stories. Anything to add or share, etc..would be great.
Robert Henry Cushman, b. Galveston, TX 1890

Trying to figure out what happened to my g-grandfather's 4 siblings from the Norton family. His obit from 1935 said he was survived by a brother, and 3 sisters.. his youngest listed as Josephine Cushman.

I believe Josephine married Robt. H. Cushman during the 1920s, probably closer to 1930. I've found them together on the '30 census in Oklahoma City, but they later return to Robert's home state of Texas. Here's further info on Robert.

Robert Henry Cushman - b. Galveston, TX, Dec. 1, 1890
d. Houston, TX, April 25, 1947

On the 1930 census w/ Josephine, Robert H. was working as a Mailer for a newspaper. The same type of work he was doing back in 1918 (WW1 draft card says so) while living in El Paso, Texas. Also says he was born in Galveston, gives a date too of course.

WW2 draft card...same name and birth date, but has him listed as working at a cafe in Houston, Texas. And not just any cafe, but Cushman's Cafe.

The death certificate I found for 1947 says - occupation, cafe operator, and that his parents were Henry Cushman and Cornelia Jefferson. It also says he is buried at Forest Park Cemetery in Houston.

I called Forest Park recently and found Josephine was buried there in 1957. Guess who's buried next to her? Yep, Robert H. Cushman. Also found a copy of their actual death certs. recently and they both have the same home address listed on them, so that's it.

Please drop me a line if you are related to this man, or have any further info. Thank you.

Hello, I am the Grand daughter of Clara Onetta Cushman. I too am searching for info on our family. I do know who Janette and Arthur were. They were siblings and were drowned in the 1900 storm. I remember my Grandmother telling me that story several times. I also remember going to see my Aunt Josie and Aunt Bella in Houston on the bus with my Grandmother. I was too young to remember many details, but do remember the bus trip. My Grandmother had 10 children 5 girls and 5 boys. I am the eldest child of Blanche Nyberg. I live just outside of Columbus Ohio and just turned 66 on Feb 11.

Alert - E-bay items -Cushmans from Lisbon Falls, Maine -1900

Hello listers: This morning I came across sale of some e-bay items from a Cushman estate sale in Maine and it pains me to see this stuff not go to descendants so I am turning to you to tell you what I know about them and wonder if you would be interested in chasing down any potential descendants that might be interested in having these before they are sold (in 5 days) on E-Bay. The items come from the estate of a woman I have identified as Sarah "Sadie" Ellen Cushman, b 17 Aug 1873, ME, d. 15 Jan 1969, probably Androscoggin, ME. It looks to me like she died unmarried, but I cannot be sure. She was daughter of Sylvanus C. Cushman, b. 2 1848, ME who married on 2 Nov 1872, Evaline (or Emaline) Wilkins, b. 4 Apr 1853. In addition to Sarah "Sadie" E Cushman, Sylvanus and Evaline had children Herbert Leon Cushman, b 10 Jul 1875 married on 16 May 1900 to Mamie Gorman who was b. Dec 1878, ME; Willis Mellen b. 12 Aug 1879, ME who married on 28 Jan 1903 to Martha E Pooler; and Bessie Geneva, b. 27 Sep 1884, probably ME. She married on 28 Feb 1900 to Lester H Green. Some of these siblings must have living descendants.

The three items can be viewed at:
Invite to Sabbatus high school reception.
WOW- that is great. Im working on getting getting an act of Congress to recognize those involved in the Northeastern Boundary dispute as Veterans. Gustavus was the judge in the original posse and was kidnapped and taken to Frederickton jail. One of the posse captains was Ward Witham, the keeper of the Bangar Arsenal who ended up a big shot in Rock County, Wis. The second posse captain was Stover Rines and he also ended up in Rock County, both with connections to Janesville and Center. Stover's brother was the first sheriff of Chippawa Falls, Wisc and I know there are Cushmans there also and all about the same time. I will contact the Rock County Historical society, they have been working with us. Again, thanks bunches. And please pass our work on to others who are descendants who want to see family recognized.
Roberta Williams
Researcher
The 1837 Foundation of Northern Maine
obnn9119atyahoodotcom

HI, I live in Maine and I have a probate document that might be of interest to someone. Its dated 1861, LaSalle County, Ohio, concerning the death of Blake Cushman, and written by Chandler Cushman, next of kin who also lives in LsSalle County, it identifies Blake as having property in Penobscot County, Maine and requests that a Mr Hopkins of Hampden be appointed to administer the estate there involved. Everything seems to indicate that Blake had married a Hopkins, whether there were minor children that Chandler was acting as guardian and administrator for, I dont know. but I have some information about this family. Thier parents were born in Vermont.
my email is obnn9119atyahoodotcom
Bertie

Hi:
I live in Maine and can help do some research but Im stuck on a family that seems to have been in Vermont with early or late connections with Connecticut. Im looking for a connection between Gustavus G Cushman b. Vermont about 1804 and Charles Chaplin Cushman born about the same time in Guildhall, VT. Charles is said to be a descendant of Seth Cushman of Guildhall., VT Gustavus lives in Dexter, Maine on 1830 census, Charles in same town on 1840 census. They has a law practice in Bangor, Maine during the 1830s and Gustavus went on to be a Judge and Charles the County Attorney. The 1830 and 1840 censuses indicate they had family but whether siblings or spouses and children, of course are not known. By 1850 Gustavus has no spouse but has a housekeeper and an 18 year old Sarah Cushman that fits the 1830 one female under5 census. One website says Charles died in 1849.A Charles Chaplin Cushman b 1837 in Maine is listed on the 1860 census of Montezuma, California but I havent been able to track him after this. Any help on identifying positively the relationship between Gustavus and Charles would be greatly appreciated.
And incidently, there was a Cushman family reunion in Plymouth in 1855 to commemorate the 235 anniversary of the Mayflower. A little 75 page publication was issued and it is a wonderful, detailed accounting of how Robert Cushman was virtually responsible for the Mayflower's trip, what he did, how he died and his son Thomas, his wife Mary and her father Isaac Allerton. Apparently any Cushman that can get back to the revolution is a descendant of Robert and Thomas. Its available on Google books.
Thanks
Bertie Williams
at obnn9119atyahoodotcom
dedicated to recognizing the Protectors and Defenders of the Northeastern Boundary dispute 1839-1842

Hello:
My grandfather was Ralph Bein Cushman, born 8/14/1893 In Galveston. His parents were Erwin Cushman and Carrie Hamilton Cushman. His family was on the mainland for a trip when the 1900 storm hit or they would have all perished.

My grandfather was educated as an attorney but worked as the credit manager for what became a very large oil field supply company in Houston for some 40 years.
As a boy I was around him 6 days a week and I remember him telling me who met Robert Henry Cushman in Houston. Later he even attended his funeral. Their association was not close, but cordial. They must have figured out their relation, but it had to be distant as my grandfather was the third generation in a row with only one male heir.

We enjoyed him until he was nearly 101, when he passed after a long an fruitful life. He was (mostly) a good example for his grandchildren, instilling in us a respect for our elders, a reverence for our mother, a natural inquisitiveness of the world around us, a devotion to work, a attitude of never quitting, and a faith in Christ.
Best of luck in your search!
Reynolds Cushman

Thanks for the reply! It was more than 10 years ago when I originally posted, and since then I have found out a lot of information that is substantially in line with your synopsis. Charles W. Cushman was Captain when he died in 1864. I would love to know where he is buried; apparently not at home in the Cushman Cemetery in Avoyelles, La., nor could I find him listed in Nashville when I visited there. A librarian in the History/Genealogy section told me an officer of his rank would most likely be sent home for burial, but his family was no longer in Avoyelles. Perhaps he is in New Orleans, but I haven't found him yet.

His wife Julia married Thomas Meredith in 1870, and moved to Virginia as you state. The two daughters Louise and Emma Cushman were adopted by the Janviers, who had no children of their own. You refer to Howell Janvier as Thomas Meredith's uncle, which I suspected but have not yet proved. Is Howell the brother to Thomas' mother Elizabeth Janvier? I've not been able to trace that branch of Janviers. I will look at your Janvier reference.

In 1890 Emma Cushman, my wife's G-Grandmother, worked as matron at an Orphan Boys Home in Norfolk, across the street from the office of Dr. John Robinson. They were soon married, and had two daughters, Ellen Janvier Robinson (never married), and Louise Pintard Robinson who married Richard Horchner in 1921. Dr. John Robinson died in 1919, and in 1930 Emma was manager of an apartment house in Norfolk.

I have a copy of Margery Cushman's diary "Farewell to Youth", which has a lot of family information, but only covers up to 1859. I am very interested in the war and post-war years: what was it like for widowed Julia and her daughters? how did Julia and Thomas Meredith meet? Where were the Cushmans during this period? By 1868 when Margery died, the only surviving family member was Basil Crowe Cushman, who served as Sergeant in the LA 30th, and afterward was an officer for the Southern Pacific Railroad.

I'm glad to meet you online, I hope we can share lots of info!

Ben Ford

The last documentation that I have him is in Floyd, Oneida County, New York, with his wife Salina. I am also trying to find the death date and place for his wife Salina.
William Cushman, born c. 1820 in Randolph, Vermont

I am searching for information on ancestors of William Cushman, born about 1820 in Randolph, Vermont; he died on March 28, 1877 and is buried in Niles, Michigan. He was married to Mary Eliza Stimson (or Stimpson), who was born in Holton, Maine in about 1933. She was buried on November 8, 1913 in Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles, Michigan. Their children were Florence Cushman Milner and twins Blanche Cushman Murray (my great-grandmother) and Maud Cushman Thompson; the latter were born in 1859. In the 1870 census, they were listed as living in Dowagiac, Michigan; they moved to Niles sometime after 1870 and before the 1880 census.

Family lore states that this line goes back to Robert Cushman, but I've not yet been able to make the connection. William's father is possibly William Washburn Cushman, but there is some question whether this was his correct name, and I've not been able to find birth or death date or place, no spouse information, no other information at all.

Any information that any of you might have would be greatly appreciated!

Cushman, Druica and others from Telluride, CO

Looking for decedents of Augustus "Gus" Cushman and Lizzie Closson of Telluride, CO.

Gus and Lizzie had 5 children. Gus passed away in 1912 and the remaining family members moved to Los Angeles, CA during the late 1910's.

Children:

Druica Cushman b 1902
Roe Cushman b 1904
Jessie D. Cushman b 1906
Mildred Cushman b 1911
Augustas Madora Cushman b 1912

I know that Mildrd and Madora were close in age and had a close relationship throughout their lives. They lived in Los Angeles and somewhere in Texas, possibly with one of Madora's daughters.

Druica and Roe may have been close, too. I know that Roe kept in contact with my grandmother after her mother (Druica) passed away in the early 1940's. I have only one photo of Roe Cushman from later in his life.

I have been unable to find the marriage record for Druica Cushman to my great grandfather Jack Roberts (abt 1928 in Los Angeles, CA) or her death certificate (abt 1942 in Flint, Michigan). I know that Druica was living in Michigan in the 1940's and Drucia had remarried sometime between 1938 and 1942.

I do not know the name of Druica's second husband. He was a retired airman and moved her and her daughter (my grandmother) to Michigan from Los Angeles after their marriage. Their first and only child passed away shortly after birth and they broke up.

If you have any information please reply. I'd love to contact distant cousins and share information.

Thank you.
I went back and checked the St. George book and there is no other mention of her under either Burns or Cushman. I also checked the Cemetery Inscriptions and Burial Sites of St. George, Maine and the Nearby Islands and can't find her in there. Do you have any idea when she died? I found her and her husband in the 1920 census but couldn't find either of them in the 1930 census.
