2012 Cutts Family Reunion

A Cutts family reunion is being planned for JULY 28, 2012 in Townshend, Vermont, USA. ----- Note that this, as far as I know, is NOT the Cutts line that descends from brothers John, Richard and Robert Cutt(s) who arrived in the Territory of Maine in the mid 1600's. ----- If someone is able to connect the following Cutts family members with the Cutts brothers from Kittery, Maine and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, I would very much like to know. ----- This reunion is for that Cutts family that came to Connecticut (thru New York & New Jersey) around 1842. This Cutts line has been tracked to Oregon, California, Michigan, Connecticut, Vermont, North Dakota and Wisconsin. ----- If you are interested in contacting the reunion planners, email me and I would be happy to pass your email address on to the planners. ----- More details on the family having the reunion: JoLynn Bowen Nelson is the one organizing a summer reunion in Vermont. Her mother, Linda Cutts Bowen, gives the following information about her Cutts relatives. My grandfather was born in Unity, WI in 1880. His name was Royal Garfield Cutts. His mother was Lydia Towner Cutts and his father was Wilber Cutts. Royal G. had a number of siblings, one of which was Howard (my brother was named after him). ----- Royal G. came to Washington DC to go to school, and must have soon met my Connecticut grandma, Verna Belle Crandall. They married in 1907 in Tennessee. They settled in Connecticut for a while, moving from there to Vermont about 1920. ----- Royal G. had a number of older siblings, one of which was Howard Newton Cutts. I believe Howard is the father of Malcolm Royal, Lois, Lydia, Nellie and Stanton. These were my father's first cousins with whom he was acquainted or re-acquainted with sometime in the 1970's. (Not totally sure that Nellie is a cousin, because Howard N and Royal G. had a sister Nellie.) ----- My father and his brothers and offspring are listed through MY generation: Royal Bartlett Cutts b. 1910; Mary Cutts Mewes b. 1935; Howard Walter Cutts b. 1938; Linda Cutts Bowen b. 1949; Percy Howard Cutts b. 1915; James Howard Cutts b.1945; John Strickland Cutts b. 1946; Ruth Ann Cutts b. 1948; David Percy Cutts b. 1954; Reuel Aulba Cutts b. 1917; Stanley Royal Cutts b. 1946; Bruce Robert Cutts b. 1947 ----- Linda Cutts Bowen

--------------------------------------------------------

Dave Petrie, Arden Hills, Minnesota ----- dapwyn@aol.com
Hello Robert,

It appears from my records that my wife is your sixth cousin once removed. You both descend from Deacon Thomas Cutt (b.15 Apr 1700 Kittery, York County, [Province of] Maine, New England) and his wife, Dorcas Hammond (b. 17 Jan 1705/1706 Kittery, York County, [Province of] Maine, New England).

Deacon Thomas was the grandson of the original Robert Cutt of Kittery.

I am sending the details of how you are related to my wife direct to your email for confirmation and possible corrections.

Dave Petrie
Arden Hills, Minnesota

I believe I am descended from Ann Cutts and am trying to validate that connection. Currently, I am trying to dis-entangle the linking of Bridget Baker with any of the Cutts brothers of that generation. Reputedly married to John in 1610, she seems to bring two more sons into the family. Baker, ukn birthdate, and Walter Cutts, 1617.

I have researched other confusing families but none to equal or surpass the Cutts.

Obviously, you are a direct descendant of Robert Cutts (which one?) so I would presume you have more correct information on the family than others might. Could you please help me out with some of these Cutts pairings? I would certainly appreciate it.

Thanks so much,

June Gray chachipup@yahoo.com

If it helps, although Robert and Doris were baptised at the Methodist Chapel in Pinxton, there are no Cutts Bargh/e marriages at either the Church or Chapel.
I think your next step is to obtain the birth certificate of your grandfather.

Rebecca,

I have been researching my own Cutts family in Nottingham and in the process come across many families who may/may not be related but who might be linked in some way.

It is a while since I looked at this family, but I have the following to add:-

Abraham died in 1856 which is why he does not appear in 1861 census. I have not determined his origins yet.

His family seemed to change their names from biblical ones to more modern ones, suggesting that this family were earlier Non-Conformists, thus the difficulty in finding information.

It appears that Eliza changed to Ellen and Ephraim to Edward. Shadrack changed to Samuel.

The marriage date of Abraham and Mary (Burton) appears to be 18 March 1823 at Basford St. Leos.

I would welcome any information on the Burton family if you have any.

Mavis

I am from the Avery side of the family. I am searching for info about Thomas A. Avery. Some of my notes say he was married to Martha E.Golden. Further, Martha was his second wife. He is supposed to be buried in the Golden Cemetery in Winston County. I am most interested in any notes concerning he and his family and when he died. All I have is after 1860. I am the grandson of a son of his, Arthur McEwen Avery. I would also be interested in other references to any of his family. After Martha's death Thomas A. married a Emilline May "Emily" Avery. It appears she was the mother of my grandfather. If I ask too much, or if you have the copies of the bible available I would take a copy.

Hi Grant,

Sometimes people swapped their first and middle names around simply because they didn't like their first name. If you're absolutely certain you've got the right person becuase you definitely know her year of death, I would buy the death certificate first. This will not only confirm her maiden name, but with luck, the informant will be a relative who you'll recognise from your tree. Once you've confirmed it's the right person, I would go ahead and order the birth certificate.

Christine

My wifes Cuuts family lived on the other side of Manchester and came from Nottingham arriving in Manchester 1841 period having been on the Canal system between Notingham and Manchester before steam engines. With the introduction of Steam the canal system finished and my wifes family remained in Manchester. Just as an aside a few years ago my brother inlaw (Thomas Cutts) from Manchester had an accident in Manchester and when exchanging detail with the other driver found he was a (Salford) Cutts. I have not found a relative link between us but the same names crop up, William , esther etc.Vic Cliffe
