Nanticoke~

Elva's parents were James and Catherine Mason Daisey and his grandparents were (supposedly) David and Ann Daisey, but there is a nagging feeling in the back of my head that this is not the case. HOWEVER, there is "family lore" that states that we were descended from the Croatan, though I am not sure if that might be the case or not. Somehow, the whole Virginia Dare case has been at the core of this story and while everyone is adamant that it is true, I have never found one iota of fact to back it up. Do you have any stories like this in your family??? Thanks!

Amy

I would need more information about Elva Daisey, in particular the name of his parents and grandparents if you have it. Right now, I do not have an Elva Daisey in my database. Does Elva's death certificate give the names of his parents? Their birth location?

Though most of the Delaware Indian history indicates that they migrated north and west, I have long suspected that some lines went south, in particular to VA and NC but have not yet been able to prove that.

Nanticoke...

With the recent passing of my grandmother, I came across a letter from one of our Chincoteague cousins. In it, it does state that our Elva Daisey (born: 1872)was the grandson of a Delaware Indian who migrated to VA. I am not sure how you might be related to my side of the family, but I'd love to know! Looks like you are a lot further along than I am.

hello kathleen

great to get a message from a fellow descendant of John Daisy :-)

My maternal grandmother was Kate Daisy b: 1911 daughter of John Daisy & Kate Daisy (nee Law), hence my interest in this line. I have a bit more info and I have come accross a couple of graves in the local cemetery and then spend time trying to fit them into my tree - not always successfully, but I keep the info at hand just in case as I've a feeling this was quite a big family. - Just out of interest you havent come accross the name Hilden or Yealden have you? Also in my tree and rumoured to be gypsy/traveller..

I would love to share info with you - its always fantastic to find fellow researcher and descendant from the same line :-) you've made my day..

My email address is: jacqui1964@hotmail.com

Looking forward to hearing from you soon

Would you have an Alfred James Daisey or James Alfred Daisey within your line? He would have been born around 1820, most likely in DE or one of the nearby states (MD, PA, NJ).

Alfred Daisey was reportedly born 1809 in NJ; exact location in NJ is unknown. At some point he came to Sussex Co., DE and married wife Lydia and had 6 children, 4 of whom survived. Indications are that he and his wife resided in the Lewes area of DE.

Hello, Celeste,

My mother was a Daisey. I've only been able to go back to my gg-grandfather, Edward P. Dazey, born about 1821 in Sussex Co, DE. He and his wife, Ellen, had 5 sons, 4 of whom moved to Gloucester City, NJ, which is where I live. I've been unable so far to determine Edward's parentage. You can contact me directly at jtorpeysmith@msn.com.

I am also looking for the parents of a Daisey. Mine is Edward P. Dazey, born 1821 in Sussex Co. DE. He had 5 sons, David, Charles, Thomas, William & John, who was my ggf. I've been unable to find out who Edward's parents were. He was married to Ellen McCommorach in Sussex Co. in Jan., 1842. So far, I've been unable to connect him to all the other Dazey/Daiseys in Sussex Co. Only David stayed in DE; the other 4 sons all moved to Gloucester City, NJ. If you ever come across an Edward in your research, keep me in mind.

I didn't know that a Daisey was ever a keeper at a lighthouse. Love to know more.

Would like to discuss this surname with individuals researching in Delaware in New Jersey. There are possible Native American ties to this surname, but they have not yet been proven.

My quest begins with an Alfred Daisey born in the early 1800's.

At this juncture of my research I'm not sure if there truly is a connection to the NJ Daisey families.

Alfred James Daisey was born 1820-1827, apparently in DE. All records that I have uncovered thus far consistently reflect his birth as being in DE. Family lore indicates he was from NJ, but I am now suspicious of that. There is a sizeable Daisey family in Sussex County, DE; I suspect Alfred descends from one of those lines.

If Alfred's name is familiar or appears within your Daisey lineages, please let me know.

My mother was Ruth Daisey; her father was Owen Daisey. He had 9 brothers and sisters. His father was John, and he had 4 brothers. Who are your parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles? In the 1880 census, there are 44 Daiseys listed for Camden County. Every one was living in Gloucester City! There are two distinct families to which each of those Daiseys can be connected. Another Daisey researcher and I are trying to find the connection between those two families. I would love to hear from you.

I am looking for the names and birthplaces of the parents of my grandfather Joe Daisey born 16 Jan 1885 in Boxiron MD, he had two sisters Ethel McCabe of Chincoteague, VA., born 16 Sept 1892, Died 20 May 1989 and Edith Gordy (may have kept her maiden name) believed born 30 Sep 1903, died Aug 1977. He may have had a brother also. Joseph Daisey married Clara Edwards of Lewes, DE., on 28 Dec 1912 and while he was assistant lighthouse keeper of the Cape Henlopen Lighthouse in Delaware (which fell into the ocean April 13, 1926) they had a daughter, Katherine, born Oct 10 1913, and who died Feb 26, 1968.
