Re Dalby's in India

I'm not sure if there's a link here, but my Grandfather - Percival Dalby - originated from India - he was born in 1901 or 1902. He had a brother Joe and probably some other siblings as well. I don't know too much about his immediate family. He married my grandmother - Zena Bloomfield and emigrated to Australia in the early 50's or 60's. Apparently, the Dalby's in my family were originally from England, and they lived in India while the English occupied India. When India became independant again, our family had to depart very quickly, leaving behind everything they owned.
My grandfather was also related to a George Farrah - who is still alive.
My grandfather may not be directly related to your grandmother, but perhaps he is a relative of some sort? If you have some information, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks for information
What I have is scant!
My Grandmother was Ethel Augusta Dalby
b 21-02-1987
d 12/6/1968
She married into the Rogers family.
I know she worked for the Colonial office in India - my mother was born in Simla 25/01/1916 I believe my grandfather stayed in India as a headmaster of school/college in Lorreto?
I do not know anything further back but would dearly like to find out more.
I kinow the ROGER's came to India via Canadian Pacific Railway, and that originally name was BRIGHT - Thomas Edward Bright served with 13th Hussars in India.

If I find more I will send message
Good luck hunting!

Hi,

I am looking for an L V Rogers (perhaps Leonard?) in India - he married Matilda May McCoig-Lees in 1898 - Matilda died aged 28 at a sanitarium in Simla. They had 2 children - Winifred and Leonard

Do you have any connection?

Hi Allan

Just browsing the net. We share the same grandparents. I am the son of Joyce who of course died in 1975 or thereabouts. My sister Beverley lives in Ludlow, she is married with three children. I live in Stourport-on-Severn which is three miles from Uncle Ken. I am married to Kerry and we have a son Daniel who is ten. My Dad, Derek also lives in Stourport. We are all fit and well.

It would be nice to hear from you.

Regards

Bryan Colley

Hi again to all. I really would value any information however scant on any DALBY i b India. Perhaps a rumour of where in England they emanated? Perhaps a name or connection or a reference to fact or possible direction to look.
Thanks
Roger

Hi

Here is a little bit of information we have on my grandparents:

Percival's father, George William Dalby was born at Newton in Northern Ireland and was an officer in the 5/6 Dragoon Guards (The 5 Dragoon guards were in Bombay around 1899). Later on he joined H.M. Customs and went to India to serve in the British colony.

Percival's mother, Mary Bridgett Pope came from Dorset or Surrey to India in the 1890’s and it was there that she met George and they were married in India in 1893.

Joseph Patrick Dalby [Joe] was born in Madras in 1898 and Percy Beaumont Dalby, also born in Madras, was born on 15.06.1904.

Percy believes that Beaumont was originally a family name, Beaumont-Dalby, but was dropped by his father, George Albert Beaumont-Dalby before 1900.
George died about 1911.

------

Roger, what is your connection to Dalby's in India?

Thanks,

Allan

Hi there & thanks for info - I'm sure it will help put it together!
My grandmother was Ethel Augusta Dalby, born Darjeeling in 1897. Worked for Colonial Office. Husband Edward Frederick Rogers, b 1895, worked Civil Service. Whilst I know a little of Rogers side, I know nothing about DAlby's So I'm grateful for your help. Edward was in Army in India - Simla. My mother was born in India, but died before I could ask all those questions you should ask.

Thanks
Roger
