Please feel free to email me with any help that you can provide. My email is sparkie02@hotmail.com. This is the rest of the info I have found and am not sure which direction to go.

His name was Edwin Dalgarno Sr. His maternal grandparents were John Irvine (11-10-1856, New Deer) and Barbara (Clark) Irvine (1858, Monquhitter). His pateral grandparents were Alexander Dalgarno (1814, Longside) and Jane (Davidson) Dalgarno (1837, Longside). Alexander's father was George Dalgarno (9-29-1786). My grandpa's parents were Norman and Jane (Irvine) Dalgarno. Norman's family moved from Scotland in 1904 and finally homesteaded in Harlowton, MT USA in 1908.

Thank you soo much for all your help!

I am so sorry that you have lost your grandfather.

Please see the posts on this (DALGARNO) board entitle 'origins of the DALGARNO name' (1-5)

I am not sure that the DALGARNO family has a tartan - it is not listed as an official clan at http://www.electricscotland.com/webclans/clanmenu.htm

Some say the family is Lowland (Dumfriesshire) in origin which is why it would not belong to a clan or have a tartan.

They would of course, be entitrled to the IRVINE tartan (see above) or the local area tartan

Googling comes up with plenty of sites selling merchandise that have the family crest on (am not allowed to name them on this site)

I just come across your post and I am sorry that I can't help you. I was wondering if you could help me though. I am looking for some history on the Norman and Jane (Irvine) Dalgarno Family. My grandpa was the last of their 9 kids and just passed away last week. They moved from Little Deer Aberdeenshire in 1904 and settled in North Dakota USA first and ended up homesteading in Harlowton Montana USA. We still own the family homestead. I am trying to compile some history for a memorial. I was wondering how you could find the clan name, plaid pattern, and crest. Could you point me in a direction please?

William Patrick DALGARNO m Florence COLLEY Cowes, Isle of Wight, UK Dec 1904

married Florence Phoebe Colley in Cowes, Isle of Wight Dec 1904. Dont know where he appeared from or where they both disappeared to! I know all about Florence prior to marriage, and Im guessing that William was born c.1880 but the only family near were the family of Patrick a chemist in Southampton, unfortunately no William living with them in the 81 or 91 census, though a daughter Ada was also married on the Isle of Wight in 1895. Quite distinctive names so frustrating that I have hit a wall, any help would be appreciated

Dear Dee

I hate to suggest the obvious, but your grandmother's death certificate would give her parents names if you don't already have them.Perhaps her mother's maiden name,or grandmother on either side was a Dalgarno.

Note,I have moved to Geneva,and have a new e.mail

Regards

June
Mary Dalgarno Bonner, b 12 Apr 1832 in Aberdeen, Scotland

My greatgrandmother was Mary Dalgarno Bonner, b 12 Apr 1832 in Aberdeen, St. Nicholas parish. I have no clue where the Dalgarno name came from or why it appeared in her name. I do know that there were occasions when the name of a doctor, or minister or some friend would be included in a name, at least in my family. One of my aunts received for a middle name the name of the doctor who delivered her! Didn't they know that some day this would drive we genealogist nuts trying to figure out the connection?

My great-grandmother was Margaret Dalgarno, bn. April 6, 1849, Old Machar, Aberdeeen. She married William Michie in 1872 at Newhills, Aberdeen.

We believe Margaret Dalgarno's parents were George Dalgarno and Margaret Mitchell. That's about the extent of my knowledge on the Dalgarnos. I've always wondered about the name as it didn't sound very Scottish.

Any info on the Dalgarnos would be greatly appreciated.

Received email Monday Nov 15th. Tena's mothers name was Hannah Yates and her father was Andrew Dalgarno. Both are buried here in Moose Jaw on the east side of town. Tena was the oldest of three children. My Grandfather, George 'Kenneth' Dalgarno, being the middle child was born in 1900 and passed away in Aug of 1991. I have a picture somewhere around here of the family taken when everyone was still at home. I will try to find the date of birth of the sisters and send it along.
J

Hello,
I believe we are indeed related. My Grandfather was Kenneth Dalgarno and his sister was Ruby Lavina. There was also a sister Tina who married Jim Justason. Tina was also in a wheelchair if that helps anything.

Dear Doris,
Thank you for your E mail. My family is from Glasgow, Scotland. I grew up there and came to Toronto as a young woman of 19 and joined my older sister.
Our name Dalgarno is from Aberdeen, Scotland. In fact if you go to Aberdeen or look at the directory you will find many.

We could be related it is hard to know. WE have been trying to trace our name for many years. My brother did some research in Glasgow... Apparently the name (according to records in Edinburgh) is from the Royalty of Scotland. At one point it seems our family had a Barony in Scotland.. a long time ago of course. My dad's name was John Edward Dalgarno.. his dad brought them up in England... My mum's maiden name was Catherine Sarah Jones. They had 12 children. We are now eleven still living. WE are in So. Africa, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Toronto..
At least it gives you a little background...

best wishes

Maria

April 4, 2002
Dear June
Happy EAster.

Thank you for the message and all the wonderful information. I believe in fact you are really on to something because my dad's father as you know was called George and the children were in fact George, Jessie, May, John (and four others). They grew up around Newcastle-upon-Tyne... so this could very possibly be them...!!
Thank you for the wonderful work you are doing to help people trace their past...

take care and yes I do hope we can meet up next time in TO!

Maria

Dear Marie Louise @ David

I have two marriages for George. One in 1902,which I think is his,and one in 1905,Tynemouth,he was 23 yrs old,and a widower, and his father was James Dalgarno,a shipyard worker.

There was a James Dalgarno married to a Jessie Duncan,
Their last son that I have in 1881 Census was born in Arbroath, which is a shiiping area.BUT,James is listed as a Boots at an Inn in 1881 CNS.Perhaps he changed his job later.

I mention this family,,as a Jessie Duncan Dalgarno was born in Tynemouth, in 1908.I also found a Geo.Wm born 1902,Eliz Ellen born 1906, Jessie 1908,Cath.May 1909,Alex Clark,1910 (Jas & Jessie Duncan also had a son called Alex Clark Dalgarno). Cath May born 1913,so obviously the first Cath May died,George K born 1914 and John Emery born 1916

NOW,Jessie Duncan did not have the same mother,if the records are correct. Her mother's m.s.was Grant.Perhaps George was a naughty boy. All the others definitely had Sarah Guiness as their mother

The only reason I can tell you all this now, and not before,is is that I have spent the last 3 days sorting out my notes.

Keep in touch, and let me know how you get on. Sorry we missed each other in Toronto.I can't stand the cold. Can you forward this to David.Let me know you got this okay

Best WIshes June

Jan. 31, 2000

I am trying to get information on my family background.
My grandfather George Dalgarno was Scottish but moved to Newcastle-upon-Tyne where he married my grandmother.
They had 8 childen. My father John Dalgarno met my mother Catherine Jones during the SEcond World War, in Glasgow where they eventually married and had 12 children....
Some of us are in Scotland, in Canada and one brother is in So. AFrica.
WE have been told by historians in Edinburgh that we are a direct linkage from past Kings of Scotland and therefore blue bloods. We know that at one time our family had a barony in Scotland..
Can anyone enlighten me.
Thank you

Maria

hi
I am trying to trace Patrick dalgarno he was the son of Andrew Dalgarno/Katherine wright, born in 1798, I know he married a margaret Jamieson and had at least three children, they moved to England i have traced them thus far to the 1841 census, living in Hampshire England,

Margaret and Patricks son Patrick married Emma, have no clue on last name, Patrick was born in 1833 in slains they had 5 children that i know of, i have the names and dates of births but cannot find any trace of them after the 1841 census, does anyone have any clue about them, any help would be appreciated

I wonder if Andrew and catherine also moved to England or if only some of the children did, as i have managed to find some of the childrens death certificates but not all of them, which makes me think that the place i am going to find the remainder of the children would be in England

George Dalgarno im Slains, Aberdeen, Scotland April 30th 1719 to Margaret DURIE

Hi David;
I've had my family history done and have some connection to the Dalgarno family. The furthest back that he could trace though was the marraige of George Dalgarno in Slains, Aberdeen April 30th 1719 to Margaret Durie. Their children were Christian, Thomas, George (christened Feb 14th 1724 - my ancestor), Janet and John. I was wondering if your information went back further than that. Also, do you know which line may be related to the George Dalgarno who was born in Old Aberdeen about 1626 and died in 1687? He wrote "Didascalocophus, or the Deaf and Dumb Man's Tutor" and also a peice called Ars Signorum.

Hi, David.I was most interested to see your message.I could probably give you some info to help.for instance, George had a Brother James and they lived at Willington Quay which was a small town or large village really, next to Wallsend before it became part of the Borough of Wallsend. However, I am still researching the Family and have been waiting to fill in some missing pieces when I can get the time to research.Could you give me a clue regarding your descendency from George?
Regards Tad.
