I have not found any actual death record for Asa, although I did find the tombstone photograph that has been posted on Ancestry. It was part of a cemetery documentation project in Indiana. So I know he was buried there, in Kosciusko county where he lived most of his life. Also, his will was filed there.

I have been trying to winnow down the Dansers in NJ. Haven't been able to definitively identify Asa's family, but was able to rule out John Danser as the father. The son in the 1830 census was a Charles Danser, and there was not another boy in the age range.

Happy hunting!
Deb

Thanks for getting back to me. Charles Danser is listed as a witness on Samuel's will. I have been mostly researching Tunis' and don't know a lot about the Danser side. In Phebe Tunis Danser's obituary, it states she had nine children( I have only been able to find 8), sons Wesley and Wilson, deceased, and 3 children dying in infancy. On the 1840 census there is a male in the household who would have been born between 1820-1825. I was thinking that might have been Wilson or maybe a second Wilson if the first died in infancy. So many mysteries!
Thanks again, Elaine

Hi Elaine,

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. I have searched but so far have not found the source for Wilson. In fact haven't even found Samuel's will, although I seem to remember sending that to someone else several years ago since it pertained more to his family then mine. I do recall, I think, that 2 of my ancestors were mentioned, wasn't Charles Danser a witness (he would have been Samuel's nephew), and the inventory taken by James McGalliard who was Charles Danser's father-in-law and a Justice of the Peace. May have that wrong. My thought is that a Wilson died in infancy and they named a later child Wilson too. I do have many piles of paper that I need to sort through so if I do come up with the proof I will let you know.

Barb

Hi Elaine,

Oh dear, I was afraid you were going to ask me that. I found the info on Wilson at least 15 and maybe even 20 years ago. I probably have the source somewhere but it will take me a little while to hunt for it. I think because it didn't concern my immediate family I didn't record where it was found. If I remember correctly the children who died at a young age were buried in another small cemetery. I will search for you, just give me a little time. I do have Samuel's will which I ordered hoping it would help me piece together the Danser family. I'll get back to you as soon as I find the source.

Thanks for your response. I was wondering what sources you have for the birth of Wilson. I have the last child, Phebe Ann, being born in 1832. That would make 25 years apart from the first child to the last. I suppose that is entirely possible. That information came from The Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey. (I hope that is right.)
I have other information about Samuel (will) and Phebe (obituary) and info on the other children, if you are interested.

Thanks again,
Elaine

Hi Elaine, I have Wilson born 1807, died 1813. There were 8 children that I know of and a couple died young. Their names were Wesley b. 1811, d. 1871, Sarah, Christiana, Samuel, Elias T, George, Phebe. My ancestor John, and Wilson's father, Samuel, were brothers (I think.) My John, his son Charles and dau.-in-law, Susan are also buried in the Danser family section of the Windsor Methodist Churchyard.

I'm looking for birth and death dates for Wilson Dancer, son of Samuel and Phebe Tunis Dancer. He died before 1880 according to his mother's obituary.
Dear Mark
Yep you are a distant cousin by the sounds of things, Joseph Walker Dancer's mother and father were Mary Ann Walker and William Dancer, sadly William Dancer died in 1826 aged only 36 in I think an industrial accident at John Wilkinsons Lower Bradly Ironworks, he was buried in St Leonards Churchyard, Bilston ( now a carpark!) Joseph was only 3 when he died and was raised by his stepfather James Clapperton who married the widow Mary Ann Dancer at All Saints Church, Coseley, on 9th August 1827 (a woman with 9 children and one on the way could not afford to be sentimental about bereavment), Joseph Walker Dancer had a sister called Lucetta Dancer born November 1819, she went on to marry William Smith of Bilston in 1837 and had amongst others a Caroline Smith my great great Grandmother, Caroline bore a Son, Sam Smith ( illegitimate, his unknown father died before he was born), Sam married Mary Ann Lewis of Bilston, and their eldest Daughter was Alice born 1901 who married Frank Andrews in December 1919, Frank and Alice were my paternal Grand parents, (they died before I was born unfortunately), they had Frederick in May 1920, my father, anything you can tell me about the birth of William Dancer of West Smethwick would be most helpful

Thanks
Rosemary

Hi:
Just wanted to follow up on this. The volunteer in Indiana was unable to locate a death record (there ought to be one but there wasn't??? Could he have died elsewhere? Like Michigan, maybe, where some of the family was?). Additionally there was no obituary in the newspapers he had access to tho I did find out there was a more local newspaper based in Silver Lake (where he lived) which might have had one but was only available at the Indiana State Library. Sorry this was not more helpful. David

Well then, we are cousins, albeit distant. I am descended from Asa and his second wife, Susan (Asa Jr. is my great, great grandfather). I had seen the three Danser families in that NJ census also, but couldn't figure out how to determine which one would/could be correct. The only thing I can add is that Asa and family seem to have been Quakers. I was never able to find any church records though.

If you do find anything, I would be most interested! Many thanks in advance.

Deb

Hi Deb:
Thanks for the speedy reply! I am related through his first wife Julia Smith. I have just shot off a request to a volunteer for a copy of his death record, hoping it might shed some light on where, exactly, in NJ he was born or his parents. I went through all the Danser/Dancer families in NJ trying to find one who might fit the bill and the only Danser family was Aaron, tho other researchers don't give any child of that age in his family. The other two possiblities (based on the 1830 NJ census) are John Dancer and Luke Dancer. Both had a child of the appropriate age in 1840. I will let you know if I get the death record and if there is any useful info there. David

Hi Rosemary, I havn't done any research for a long time and can't lay my hands on the paperwork at the moment ! However it seems very likely there is a relationship, Lillo or Lello does have some linkage with my family from Wednesfield.I have just returned from a weekend away and will endeavour to find out the details i unearthed. Please feel free to contact me on dancermark@rocketmailcom at any time and thank you for taking the trouble to contact me.
kind regards
Mark Dancer

Anthony Dansor was my gggrandfather also, and I have been working on family history for years. I have his father as John, from New Jersey, and his mother as Elizabeth Goldsmith. Anthony was born 30 May 1807 in Somerset, Pennsylvania. His brother, John G. Dancer, was born 26 April 1802 in Washington, Pennsylvania. I have a copy of the marriage bond for George Reeve and Eliza Jane Dancer which was signed by Jane Hayden (Jane Caldwell remarried John Hayden). I use the spelling of Dansor because one of Eliza Jane's sons is named Otis Dansor Reeve. Would like to hear from you, email addr is gailsmail@comcast.net. Thanks.

In doing research on a woman connected loosely with my husbands family (a by-marriage-by-marriage link), we have run across a couple of news articles on her.
In the first, about Dec 1879, she marries a man identifed as "John W. Middleton". The 1880 showed him about age 26 (c.1853-54) born in Texas under the Middleton name. Around March 1882, there's another article showing she is suing her husband for divorce, and he's identifed in the court papers as "Jesse Dancer alias John Middleton".

I would like to hear from anyone who has any information about this Jesse Dancer person, especially if anyone knows where he went after 1882. Thank you.
Claudia Glass glasss2008(at)hotmail.com

Is this your John?
His parents might be James Dancer, born 1831, and wife Margaret. This James Dancer was brother to Sarah Dancer, born 1827 in ENG. Their parents were John Dancer, born ENG, and Clara, last name not known.

Also living Washtenaw MI in 1880 were William Dancer, born ENG, about 1830, wife Susannah; Alexander Dancer born 1840, married Ellen. Are they also children of James Dancer and Clara?

Eliza Ann Dillon, had sons James V. b. 1839, ( My 2X GGrandfather) Peter H. b. 1834 and Clark b 1845, daughter Margaret L.
