hi.
i'm andrew danish, 50, and currently living in oakland, CA.
i grew up in bethlehem, PA. my surname is hungarian. (originally DANIS) i know my parents did a good amount of research on our family's history but it's all back in pennsylvania. just wanted to introduce myself.

Cort m. Pedersen b.1884 in Cophenhagen? koros . parents Lars & isadora/dora (Bjornboe).immigrated to USA in 1904.

and his wife :Ingebord maren (Mortensen)b.1889 Gryderup,Denmark .parents Moretn neilson & Maren Oline (neilson) Mortensen. immigrated in 1906-8 .
she is one of abt. 8 siblings( neils peter edvart b.1888,inge,Kristen anton b.1891-all christened in Boeslunde,soro,Denmark --anna,elna also immigrated to USA ,bertha,harold,Ester johanna,Valdermar).

The Danish's here in Canada are of Ukranian descent. The only thing I know about this surname is that it used to be "Danich" or "Danych" years ago when my grandfather was young, and possibly is a variation on "Danychuk".

Poland or Ukraine?

My grandfather on some occasions said his
parents were from Poland, and other times
he said they were from the Ukraine. His
brother claims they were from Austria. I
don't know much about Polish history, but I
suspect some areas were one and the same
prior to WW I.

Do you know anything on the Danysh genealogy? My husband's family name is Danysh and we have been trying to research but haven't had much luck.

A lot of Danish/Danysh people live in former USSR.
My granfather is Afanasiy Arhipovich Danysh(Danish).
I visited a lot of my relatives around USSR.
Also my ancient surname Degodiouk(Degodjuk/Degodyuk) interests me.(My father's root).

I'm pretty sure my Grand parents came from an area near the Austrian-hungarian border. Their real surname was Austrian, but they spoke Hungarian at home. It's a tough call because of the border changes after WWI.

There is a Danish surname family in the Augusta, GA area. It has been years since I've lived there, but one family mmeber was Nelson Danish, who is/was employed with WJBF-TV in Augusta. I think there are several Danish headstones very near my parents markers in the Augusta cemetary. Sheldon
