Everyone,

I see these posts were quite some time ago. I was wondering if there was any further information on the Daus. Laura Dau was my grandmother on my father's side. Her parents were Paul Dau and Margaret Schilke. I know Paul's parents were Henry Dau and Louise Busse, but I can't seem to get any further than that. I'm also stonewalled at Margaret. Does anyone have information on either Henry & Louise or Margaret?

Hi, I'm looking for anyone who might know something about one of my ancestors. Her name was Dora Dau (b. abt 1829) and she was married to William Becker (1823-1908).

Dora last appears on the census in 1880, but I have not yet determined her date of death.

On the 1900 census, William is said to have immigrated in 1852. Their first two sons, Frank and Louis, were born in Kentucky (in 1854 and 1857, respectively). Their next child, Rosa, was born in Nov. 1859 in St. Louis, Missouri.

I know Dora's maiden name from son Frank's death certificate. But that's the only evidence I have for it.

The surnames are certainly familar. My paternal grandfather's family migrated from the Grammendorf area in the mid to late 1800's to the United States. My emmigrant ancestors were Wilhelm Frederick Engel and Johanna Koch.
Dau Family of Galveston, TX. in 1900

This comes from a webpage called "Storm of 1900 Oral History."
Hopkins, page 11

Kenamore: What was their last name?
Hopkins: Dau, D. .A. .U.
Kenamore: D. .A. .U.. And your maiden name was Bristol.
Hopkins: Bristol, yes.
Kenamore: I'll go back to the Archives and look that up in the city directory.
Hopkins: You know when my mother told me, growing up, she didn't like the Dau girls too much. They were rough and she tried to make a quiet sweet little lady out of me. I just never was that kind. I was rough. (More on website)

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information about the 1900 Galveston, Texas Hurricane. The link for the site is listed below.
Joyce

http://www.gthcenter.org/exhibits/storms/1900/Oralhist/Hopki...

Hello! I am looking for information on my gr-grandmother, Auguste Dau. She was born about 1871 in Grammendorf, Pomern, Germany. She immigrated to the US in Nov 1890 with her son, Wilhelm (Dau) Engel and the Family of Fredrick and Johnanna Engel and joined her husband, Wilhelm Engel in Maquoketa, Jackson County, Iowa. She died in Iowa in 1907.

While we have a lot of information on the Engel, Koch, Nissen, Schroeder, Baresel and other families, we do not have hardly any information on Augusta Daw.
Hi Kathy:
The only connection I have with Christian Dau, is the obit, of my G.G. Grandfather in 1918, that listed two sisters. Mrs Christian Dau of Carpentersville and Mrs Charles Albreght of Walworth, Wisc. The date was 6/8/1918. His name was Christian Wendt, so his sister's maiden name would be Wendt.
That's all I know and have no further information, I was hoping to find their families to find some cousins and more information on the Wendt's.
Sorry
Barbara

Variation of Dau family name -DAUG

I a searching for information on my grandparents, Anna Daug and Henry Jacob Weidner. Henry emigrated as a child, but Anna was born in Hoboken, Hudson Co., NJ to Frederick and Marie (Wessendorf) Daug. Our family has always spelled the name DAUG and on original documents their point of origin in Germany was Odernheim, Prussia.
Family legend says that they might have originated in Scandanavia, particularly Sweden or Denmark, but I can find no link. I would like to know where in Prussia of the 1870's Odernheim was, and which archive I should write to for records. I know that there are other Odernheims in Germany and also Odenheims, but the family always used the Odernheim form. any info appreciated.

I don't know of any Henry Dau, but my great great grandfather was Herman Dau, born in Publitz, Germany in 1838. He came to Detroit with his family (wife and 5 children) some time between 1872 and 1880 (then had 3 more children). They may have been brothers or cousins. There are still quite a few Daus living in the Detroit area. If any of the dates match up, let me know. I have quite a bit more information about the family.

One of their daughters is my mother, Della Zietz.
I have found a "Luise Pauline Busse" on the LDS IGI . She was christened 4 July 1852 in Sankt Elisabeth, Berlin Stadt, Brandenburg Preussen. Parents: Christian Ferdinand Busse and Henriette Auguste Wunderlich. It could be "our" Louise but I won't know for sure unless I get more info.
You wouldn't happen to have any info in regard to Paul's birthplace, would you?
Betty
