Do you have John Davey (1612-1678) m. Tryphene Reynell. John's parents were John Davie (1589-1654) m. Juliana Strode. The line prior to that is John Davie (1560-1612) m. Margaret Southcott. This line traces to King Charles the First and back to Clovis the First. I am descended from Charles Henry Davey and Helen Quiel. I live in Minnesota. Charles Davey's ancestry line included Humphry Davey. It would be nice if we all could share the same researched information.

Shelley

I am looking for any information on the Davey family from Philadelphia, PA, USA. My grandfather, Charles J Davey, was born 17 Apr 1919 in Philadelphia. He had a sister, Helen. I can't find him or his family in the 1920 or 1930 census, and know nothing about his parents. If anyone has any information or suggestions, it would be much appreciated.

Kyle Davey

I haven't done any family history research for quite awhile BUT Michael Davey married Margaret Feeney (I think that is the name I can make out on their marriage certificate) and on his death certificate it states that he had lived in the State of Victoria for 55 years. I haven't looked for any other information BUT hope to do a bit more in 2012!

Auntie Winn married uncle Fred Fentiman(they lived in Wiltshire)and they had one daughter Janis.

I am not sure how to start on your side of the family, I am so pleased that I do not know where to start.

I hope that I may be able to help, I believe that my Grandfather was John Davey a printer who had 6 children, One of whom was a John Ernest Davey and married Edith Mabel in 1920,then emigrated to Australia. The other sisters and one brother were Mabel, Ann, Winifred, Hilda and Horace. I have been trying to trace the Australian side of my family but to no avail. I am the daughter of Horace Henry and apart from one cousin, the daughter of Winifred are the only relatives of that family.

Genevieve Luger is my great grand aunt. Her father was originally a Feurstein but was adopted by a Luger, so her name was never Feurstein. Her husband was born 3/26/1882 in Kenockee, St Clair, Michigan to John Davey and Margaret O'Leary (from original image on family search). Graduated Detroit College of Medicine in 1905. Died 4/10/1926 in Lansing, Ingham, Michigan and is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery there.

Too busy looking after grand children. I thought that i might try again. Irish genealogy is very difficult. I'm glad that my ancestors were Scottish, much easier. Is Michael Joseph Davey 1834 parents Patrick and margaret or Michael and margaret. I am confused!!!. Hope you have a great Xman.
Cheers
Vivienne

Are the Irish Daveys a branch of the Burkes of Connacht?

Has anyone made a link between Daveys in Ireland and the Burkes of Connacht? I’ve found several references to a branch of the Burkes breaking off and becoming Mac Davie.

I traced a possible line of my family (Davey) from Sligo to Galway. As there aren’t many Daveys in Galway, I started looking into name variations and found some interesting texts.

First was a reference to Davey being sometimes used synonymously with Mac Davitt in Ireland in The surnames of Ireland (Maclysaght).

I then discovered a website (http://rainbowfarms.com.au/1603%20AD%20-%202.html), which contained an un-sourced, yet extensive, history of Ireland. It contained the following text,“ the O Sullivan followers were once again finally attacked also by the Mac Davitt - Burkes - who they nevertheless were somehow able to drive off.” The same website also contains the text, “forces under Mac Davitt - Davie - Davy aka Burke branch”

I’ve since found many references to a branch of the Burkes known as Mac Davie.
Jayne,

I haven’t yet found any links to Australia, but I’ve only been concentrating on direct lines thus far.

I’ve seen Ballymote come up a number of times in my research, but can’t say where at the moment. I just took a quick look at my tree and I do have a Patrick James Davey born 1844 about a stone’s throw away (~2 miles)in Carrickbanagher, Sligo, Ierland. Father was Charles from Limerick.

I'll take a deeper look this weekend to see if i can't find more.

Cheers,
Gregg

Hi Greg,

I can not add any further information to your question, but I was wondering whether any of your Davey's were from around Ballymote ?

The earliest Davey I have is a Michael Davey born between 1834 - 40 to parents Patrick and Margaret Davey. He eimigrated to Australia around 1855.

Did any of your Davey's come to Australia ?

Cheers

Jayne

I am trying to determine the Parents and Siblings of Lewis Herbert Davey (b1896 St Thomas, Exmouth, Devon, UK). There is a record in the 1901 census but this seems to relate to to a L H Davey from Newton Abbot (not a big difference in locale) with a separate birth record, but the parents and siblings dont quite match what I was expecting to find.

I am expecting a brother of Richard and a mother of Bessie (not far different from the other Alice Elizabeth..)

Any help appreciated.

Hello,

I am researching the Davey family that lived at 113 Malden Road, Kentish Town, London.

Family members: 1901 census
Walter Samuel Davey
Helen (Ellen) Davey maiden name James
Children:
Edith Helen Getrude Davey
Daisy Dora Davey (my grandmother)
Harold Walter Montague Davey
Lawrence Davey
Ivy Mabel Davey

From the 1911 census I know that all the family were still at 113 Malden Road except for Edith and Daisy, who were possibly in domestic service at the time.

Daisy Dora Davey married John Leslie Mitchell in 1922

We know that there is a link to South Africa since Ivy and Walter (her father) went there and returned in 1930, but not sure if any other family resided there.

Harold Davey ended up in New Zealand as too did Edith.

If anyone has further information on this Davey family I would be most interested and especially if we can confirm the South Africa link.

Thanks

Lester Anderson

You are quite correct. I was unable to visit your tree and see if we have mutual interests. Please email me on mk.cllns@iinet.net.au . My William Davey gave his middle name as Arthur on some occasions and Charles on others. He is in fact Charles and was born Hobart, 09-Jan-1858, parents Thomas Davey and Agnes Wallace. I have no links between my Davey's and Cornwall, England. I will see if I can still remove my original message. Thank you for your interest.

Does anyone know the origins of the Davey family in Sligo Co Ireland? Given that the majority of Davey’s outside of Sligo are from England, I’m assuming that some early Davey’s migrated there from England, but have no evidence either way.

I can trace my family back to a Philip Davey born in the early 1800 / late 1700.
His son and my grandfather, Joseph, compiled a family tree which he passed on to me before his death. In that family tree, I have found a Patrick Davey born in 1841 in County Down. According to my records, he was a bachelor and lived from 1841 to 1891. His brother John seems to be the first individual in my family tree to have left Ireland for the United States. Hope this helps.

Hi Owen,

I have traced my Davey ancestors back only as far as Canada. The Canadian census shows that Bernard (Barney) Davey, b. 1811, and his wife, Catharine Smith Davey, b. 1815, came from Ireland around 1835. They had a daughter born in Ireland in 1834, and a son born in Canada in 1836. Their children were Roseanne, Edward, Michael, Barney (Bernard), John, James, and Patrick. I think the couple may have been from County Down because I see the given names appearing repeatedly in the Davey family there, but I can't quite pin them down. If you have any clues, I would very much appreciate it!

Many thanks,

Annie Davey Chase
annie.chase@gmail.com

Hello
I hope this message finds you well. The Elizabeth Annie Davey you refer to was my maternal great aunt, Aunt 'Lil' as she was known. She came to Canada after WW1 and died in Brampton Ontario in 1985. The daughter Elsie remained in London, and was alive at least until 1984. I knew Aunt 'Lil' well, and in fact, my mother, her niece, is still living here in Canada. Several of the Davey and Davies family came here after the war.
I would be happy to share more with you,as I am confident we are speaking of the same woman. She divorced William Thake in the early 1900's, citing abandonment and failing to provide necessaries. A divorce was quite a feat, before The Divorce Act.
By all means, feel free to contact me further. I have a recent inquiry from a fellow surname of Harvey who is seeking info on her as well.
regards
Cecelia
