I am a sixth generation descendant of Willaim Davidson and Elizabeth Charlton, through their son Charlton Davidson. Your William Lee Davidson may be Charlton Davidson's brother according to some Internet postings. I am looking for a male, Davidson, direct descendant of William Lee Davidson who is willing to participate in the Davidson DNA Project. A DNA match would establish a link between Charlton and William Lee Davidson. My DNA is already on file with the Project. All it takes is a cheek swab with a kit provided by the DNA Project. I will cover any costs.

Josiah DAVIDSON -- b. 1802 VA

I am researching the Josiah Davidson family. He was born in 1802, PECO, VA. Supposedly the son of Josiah (John) Davidson and Ann McCauley. He married Susan Hughes in 1824. However, I have not been able to verify this. They may be connected to the Edward, David and William Davidsons. I know they were connected to the Powell Hughes family in VA. Can you be of any help.

Thanks

Looking for information on the parents of a Johnathan Davidson. Born in about 1803 in Kentucky and married a Mary ? there in about 1825. The 1880 census names North Carolina as the birth place of both of his parents. In about 1833 the family moved to IL in the 1850 census they are in Scott County IL, and in the 1860 census they are in Christian county IL. It seems that Mary died during the 1860's but Johnathan is still in Christian County in the 1880 census. Atleast some of their childrens names are Elijah, Frances E., John Page the first child born in IL in about 1833, and Hezekiah.

DAVIDSON Families, Dickson TN and Pope IL - Jesse Davidson

Hello,
I seek to exchange information with others researching the Davidson families of both TN and IL.
I am able to confirm that the Jesse Davidson (wife Martha) present on the 1860 Pope County, IL, born abt 1800, TN is the son of Thomas and Sarah Davidson of Dickson County, TN. Sarah, as a widow of Thomas, is present on the 1830-1860 Dickson County census. Several records related to her pension for Thomas' War of 1812 and estate settlement demonstrate them the parents of:
Jesse C or G, abt 1800
Delila, abt 1804 (married John W. Thomas)
Howell A, abt 1805
James M, abt 1808
Abraham (suspect abt 1812)
I'm still gathering on Sarah and do not locate her in 1820. Was she living with others? Documents demonstrate she was widowed as Thomas was reported to have died in the Battle of New Orleans.
I recently received the death record of William Davidson, 1903, son of Jesse Davidson from Pope County, IL records. It reports him as born in "Dixon Co Tenn" and born in 1829. I'd then suspect the Jesse Davidson family to appear on the 1830 census for Dickson County but do not find a Jesse Davidson listed. Was Jesse Davidson also known as George?
Sarah's estate demonstrates the heirs of Jesse Davidson to be: Thomas (of Denton TX) and William, Sarah Jane, George and Isabelle Broadway (all of Pope IL). The document recorded in 1868 lists Jesse Davidson as deceased. William, Sarah Jane, George, and Isabelle are easy to track on the Pope census 1860 and after.
In William Davidson's death record is reported that he was a resident of Pope County for 55 years. This would bring this Davidson family to that area in 1848. This would appear consistent with the first of land purchases that Jesse Davidson made in that area. Also, William Davidson married in the county in 1850. It would seem that the family should be present here in 1850 yet I do not find them. Were they missed on census?
It seems unlikely that Jesse Davidson would miss appearing on every census of his life except for 1860!
A record search via IL archives prior to 1850 for the Pope IL area did not reveal more than what I had in land entries beginning in 1848.
Prior to Jesse's arrival in Pope other Davidson family are present. They are reported to have come to the area from Stewart TN. They are reported also to originate from the Davidson/Bowman line who had intermarried with Broadway family. If that is true or not I can not say.
Interestingly, Isabelle Davidson, daughter of Jesse Davidson married into the Broadway family of Pope County. She was the second with of William Broadway who is said to be son of Royal Broadway who also descends from a Davidson line.
As a couple, William and Isabelle Broadway had a son, Riley per census, Royal per online reports, who evidently perished young. William Broadway died during the civil war and Isabelle was widowed and does not appear to have remarried. Later census demonstrate her report of mothering one child and that child deceased.
The children of Jesse Davidson remained in Pope County, IL for an extended period appearing to live and farm on lands purchased by both Jesse and William Davidson. Descendants of William Davidson intermarried into the Broadway family several times.
William's youngest son, James Howell Davidson, married Mettie Broadway. James Howell Davidson would become a Methodist Minister and the last record found for him is in Albion, Edwards, IL where he and his wife were living in the "parish."
William's son, Jesse Thomas Davidson, married Amanda Williams and they had a large family which I suspect may still have descendants in the area. Jesse and Amanda died in the 1940s in Creal Springs, Williamson County, IL where I know several of their children relocated with them.
Another son of William's, John W., appears to have perished as a young adult. I believe he was the father of a Benjamin Eugene Davidson who served in the navy, married a woman named Edna and moved to Arkansas.
I'd like to hear from anyone with better insight to earlier Davidson family members in Pope IL, the Stewart County documentation that exists, or other information that would help me sort out further information from this area.
I have obtained the first of the records for lands obtained by Jesse Davidson in this county. Both were obtained via bounty warrants. The first was for a warrant awarded to a man by the name of James M. Stanphill. I've no idea of a connection to this man. The second was for a warrant awarded to Sarah Davidson (was this Jesse's mother or another Sarah Davidson)?
Any insight or information appreciated.
Robin Garland

Davidson link from PA to OH?

Tracking this man whose younger sister married and raised her family in Columbiana, OH...did he follow her?

Samuel & Mary DAVIDSON / DAVISON

He is born c1774 and is mentioned in his father's will of 1822 and is on PA land records up to 1825...and then he just disappears.

His only son raises a family in PA and heads into IN but at no time is there a Samuel mentioned nearby. I'm hoping he moved to OH with his sister and her blended family. Her name is listed many ways...Peruvia or Peninah and she marries Stephen HENDRICKS and they raise Nathan (marries Margaret SWEARINGEN) , Michael (dies young) , Anna Mary (marries Leonard FROST) , Jane Elizabeth (marries George SCOTT)...

Sandymento

I am looking for information concerning my GG Grandparents, Nathan Chassen Davidson and his wife, Mary (don't know her last name). All I have on him is that he was born ca. 1823, in Mississippi, and died sometime before 1910. Can anyone out there help me with this line? I have been stuck there for quite a while. Any help would be appreciated.

I am researching my family tree and would like to find some information on Donald Albert Davidson born April 17,1894 in Canada. I would like to know when he died and where he is buried and if there are any relatives still living in Detroit Michigan. At one time he stayed with his sister and brother-in-law John and Jessie Clark in Detroit, Michigan.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Myrle

Need help with Millard Milford Davidson and family

I am searching for parents and information on Davidson's. The trail ends with Millard Milford Davidson. He lived in GA in 1850. He married Kiza (Emma?) Millstead and had a number of children, one of which was Josephine Louisa Davidson in 1877. Does anyone have any info on this Davidson line? Unfortunately, I am a female descendant of a female Davidson, so I do not think that I am able to participate in the DNA project.

DNA Davidsons thru Alexander

I'm working on the documentation to prove our Davidson/Davison line.

My DNA cousin (Steve) is from:

Alexander>John>William>Joseph Sr.>Joseph Jr.>Morgan

I believe I'm down:

Alexander>Samuel>Moses>Samuel>Moses>Samuel H.>William E.>Mont E.

So, if the DNA % is correct that we share a common ancestor in 6-8 generations...it would be Alexander. We are waiting on the 67 marker upgrade, but with 37 markers right now I think this is the connection. (I'd love to hear from anyone else who believes they belong in Alexanders lineage)

- sandymento@earthlink.net

John Goolman DAVIDSON

When going though my father's genealogy papers I found a paper written by Eugene M Davidson, Rocky Gap, Virginia, 1947. It is titled: "Notes Relative to The Descendants of John Goolman Davidson". In this paper he writes "the descendants of John Goolman Davidson owe a debt of everlasting gratitude to historiams like, A.H. Davidson ( who had contacted Eugene Davidson in 1926), J.N. Harman, F.B. Kegley, John P. Hale, William Pendleton, Bickley and others". Is there anyone out there that might know where the genealogy records are that these people compiled many years ago? Eugene Davidson also mentions a Mrs. Allen from Lincoln, Nebraska. Mrs. Allen reported that she was a sister to William Jennings Bryan and their grandmother was a Davidson. I might be able to give some JGD descendants some addtional information. I haven't been able to connect my family to JGD.

Davidson Scottish Jacobite Prisoners.

Check this story out about the Jacobite Prisoners. I just found this on the net. There were three Davidsons that I have were deported. William,Owen & this now this James that I just found.

3, 500 prisoners were taken at the Battle of Culloden in 1746; including many men, women and children who were regarded as supporters of the Jacobite cause even though they had taken no part in the actual fighting. Some of these prisoners were put on seven transport ships bound for London. When they reached Tilbury, the prisoners remained on board the ships, which were anchored in the river. They were guarded by soldiers from the fort. The conditions on the ships were appalling for both the prisoners and their guards. By 11th August 1746, 268 prisoners had been brought into the fort; 45 of these died in the first month. Typhus had broken out on the ships and so all of the prisoners were brought into the fort by December 1746 bringing the total number of prisoners held at Tilbury to 303. The prisoners were kept in the powder magazines. They were forced to draw lots when it was decided that 1 in every 20 should stand trial for their life. Those not selected to face trial and the near-certainty of execution remained at the fort until their fate was decided; a few remained until 1750. Most of those who survived were transported. A few were released, including James Davidson, age 14 a ‘very wicked boy’

Has anyone ever made any legidament connection to any of these men.
Josiah Davidson/Susannah "Suky" Hughes-DNA Results are In

Per DNA testing, it is now known that the Josiah Davidson (born about 1802) who married Susannah "Suky" Hughes (born about 1804; she was out of Prince Edward Co., VA) was a member of "DNA Family 7" on the Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA website at www.davidsongenes.org. In the early-1800s, there were two unrelated Davidson/Davison families in Buckingham Co., VA, and each of these two families have DNA donors in the testing project. One of these two unrelated families is represented by the above-referenced Family 7, and the other family is represented by Family 10 (my Davidson family).

Family 7 has been traced back to PA in the mid-1700s, and quite a few members of that family were in the Bedford/Campbell Co., VA area by at least the 1770s. Some members of this family "found their way" to Buckingham Co., VA (at least one of them came to Buckingham after having been in GA in the late-1700s), and a Stephen Davison from this family married a Lucy Neighbours in Buckingham or Prince Edward Co., VA around 1808, as I recall. The 1820 Buckingham census showed this Stephen Davison (as well as an older Stephen Davidson who was a member of my Family 10), as well as what appears to have been a Henry Davidson and a Joseph Davidson who were apparently also part of Family 7. There had also been a John Davidson on the 1810 Buckingham census, and it now seems almost certain that he was also a member of Family 7 (he was a very close neighbor of Littleberry Hughes and John Hughes). He was PROBABLY the same John Davidson who obtained land in Buckingham in 1792, and I would not be too surprised if he came to VA from GA. I believe that this John Davidson was the older of the two John Davidsons who appeared on the 1820 census in Wilson Co., TN (though there is no "hard proof" of that).

Note: Per a Bible record, the father of the Josiah Davidson who married Suky Hughes was an older Josiah Davidson who married an Ann McCauley.

The above DNA test results show that, unlike what some researchers have suspected in the past, the above Josiah Davidson was NOT out of the family of John Davison (died about 1754) of Prince Edward Co., VA (PECo) and who was married to Ann Sons/Soanes. That Davison family in PECo also has several DNA donors in the DNA testing project, and they are represented by "DNA Family 5." In addition, a descendant and excellent researcher of Family 5 states that the George Davison in that family, who some have claimed was the father of the above Josiah Davidson who married Suky Hughes, definitely had no child named Josiah.

There had been an Alexander Davidson on the 1764 Buckingham tithe list (along with several known members of "DNA Family 10"). It strongly appears that Alexander Davidson was NOT part of Family 5, Family 7 or Family 10, so there were probably at least four unrelated Davidson/Davison families in the Buckingham/Prince Edward Co., VA area in the 1700s.

Note: The Reverend Samuel Davidson of Campbell Co., VA and then Appomattox Co., VA (the Reverend died about 1861 and was married to Frances Oglesby), and who was the pastor of Red Oak Baptist Church for 40+ years, was also a member of Family 7. Another Samuel Davidson out of Campbell Co., VA, who married Elizabeth Thornhill and who died in Appomattox Co., VA in 1848, however, was a son of the above Alexander Davidson. We really need a DNA donor who "traces back" to that Alexander Davidson (who died in Campbell Co,, VA around 1800).

Thomas and Sarah Davidson, Dickson Co., TN

Hello,
I am looking to connect with researchers of Thomas and Sarah Davidson, parents of Jesse, Delila (wife of John W. Thomas), Howell A., James, and Abram (March 6, 1830 last settlement to Sarah Davidson, Dickson County, TN).
I have seen several trees listing the sons, but none with details related to Delila Davidson Thomas. It is somewhat curious as she is somewhat easy to locate on record. In 1840 John Thomas is living but a few households away from Howell Davidson. Delila is then found on 1850 and 1860 Dickson County census along with her children (Howell Calvin, Eliza, James D., Minor B., and Christopher). While hoping to obtain further information on Delila, I am primarily interested in the Thomas line as this is that of my father.
I have a good deal of information on Delila and her children that I am willing to share if anyone is interested in including the female descendant of this line.
My father's line is as follows:
The Rev. Howell Calvin Thomas, 1838, married 1st Thursa Garton, 2nd Margaret Bryant; Howell and and Thursa were parents of John Washington Thomas married Elizabeth Zilphia White; John and Elizabeth were the parents of McClain Thomas; McClain Thomas married Nelle Weems who were parents to my father, Thomas McClain Thomas.
Robin Garland

Robert Samuel "Sam" Davidson

Looking for any information about the second marriage of Sam Davidson. First marriage was to Mary Lou Cade and second wife's maiden name is possibly Brown. He died in 1974 at Christoval, Texas, and was survived by two daughters and one son from first marriage. I am looking for information on children (believe to be 2 or 3 sons) from second marriage. Sam was my husband's grandfather and he has little knowledge of the Davidson family roots.
