Valerie,

Jenny Dayes sayes that you have researched the Dayes family way back. I go as far back as James and Katherine Dayes in Ireland but can't find anything more. Any assistance would be appreciated. I have some information from one of my 3rd cousins regarding the family. I am the Grandson of Stella Louise Dayes Berrett then Auld.

Best,

Craig

Valerie, My friend Craig ( Descensent from James Dayes, James Redwar Whitorn Dayes and Stella Dayes was speaking with Guinivere and Minnie and they said that you were the one in the family doing most of the reasearch. I have been doing quite a bit myself but found it difficult to research things from over seas.

Minnie told me the Dayes family first moved to Jamaica from Ireland and that John and Katie were the first descendents from there. Is this infortmation you have researched ?

Would love to compare notes and see if we might be able to help each other. Craig's Dad was born in Jamaica and is the son of Stella Louise Dayes

Lets touch base. I'm not used to the board either Craig can be reached at california_man@msn.com.

Best,

Vicki

Hi Lorraine,

I am unsure of where the Alan came from. Perhaps it was a more pleasant alternative to the FRATUS history within my forefathers names. Thankfully, my middle name is Alan and not Fratus.

As to my lineage, I'm sort of lost once I leave Australian soil. I know my mother was contacted by a DAYES in America several years ago, but I'd need to speak with her to know where that went.

He was my grandfather, Stanley Fratus DAYES' father.
Joseph William DAYES' father was Joseph Fratus DAYES.
First of all, I laughed at your reply. My older brother's name is Alan Dayes! What a coincidence. I do think that the Australian Dayes are related to my Yorkshire branch but I don't know the exact lineage. My father, Fred Dayes, was born in Beverley, Yorkshire in 1911 and was sent to Canada by Dr. Barnardo Homes.

Interesting but I can't shed any light on Australian Dayes.

Regards,
Lorraine (in Ontario)

Are you in Queensland? I have information on a Dayes family that descend from Lewis Dayes, who was born in Yorkshire in 1853 and arrived in Rockhamton in 1878.

They settled in the Cairns area.

There is another branch over there in NSW,I think, they are connected to another Dayes branch, much earlier. The early Dayes were often Deyes.

Best wishes.

Judith

Thanks, Wendy for answering. I am decended from the Dayes in Yorkshire. Dayes is a rather rare name so I wouldn't be surprised that somewhere back in time these two lines are connected. I received some information from a "Deyes" in Liverpool that told me "Dayes" was originally spelled "Deyes". My daughter is a genealogist and she has found the same information. "Dayes" started in the Liverpool area as "Deyes" and somewhere in the 18th century, one of them migrated to Yorkshire and the spelling changed to "Dayes". My daughter suggested that people couldn't spell all that well and sometimes went with the phonetic sound rather than the correct spelling.

Thanks, again.
Lorraine

My daughter (family genealogist) tells me that a George Dayes came from England (Yorkshire) to New York sometime in the 1880's. We cannot find anything more on him after arriving in New York (although someone in England suggested he died in Toronto, New York).

I would be interested in your story.

Regards,
Lorraine (Dayes) Andrews

There was a George Dayes from Yorkshire who immigrated to US (New York) sometime in the 1880's-1890's. I can't find any trace of him in New York. He died in Toronto, New York.
Although my Dayes' come from Yorkshire, I wonder if there might be some connection somewhere back in time since this is not a common name.
Interested in any information you might have.
Lorraine (Ont.
