Howard Dayton, 1918-1972, died Darien, CT

Is anyone related to Howard Dayton, son of Charles Dayton and Ruth Scofield. He was born in 1918, the census indicates New York. His wife's name was Elsie. He died in 1972 in Darien, Ct. I am looking to see if anyone is researching this family and if so how far back their research has gone. I share a common ancestor with Howard about four generations back.

Steve

Hello! Old thread, but maybe something will come of it.

I am Lalla's (apparently also spelled Laila) granddaughter.

My mother, Lalla's daughter, was told that Lalla and Mary Freda had the same mother, while the other siblings, Dorothy, Howard and Ham, had a different mother (Sarah?).

Doesn't help with info on Bryce, I suppose, but now I see another post asking for info on the unknown biological mother. Anything new there?

Thanks for the reply. The Daytons I am researching are from New Jersey. Burlington County, or Elizabethtown, Essex County NJ. The tree stops at William Dayton marrying Margaret Garoutte married in 1798. Some people show Uriah Dayton the father born 1750, but no spouse or parents. Also some show no known parents for William.

Thanks

I am completely stumped. I've traced my family to William Dayton abt 1779 to some say his father is Uriah Dayton 1750, and some others say both parents are unknown. I find this hard to believe there must be some linkage back to New York and Ralph Dayton. Help would be appreciated. Any suggestions?

Thanks

My name is Joe Nicora (Joseph Lewis Nicora) Nicora is my adopted name, I never carried the Dayton name because my mom never revealed who my father was. Although she named Joseph Lewis. I learned his name when I was 18 but never pursued any information until now. I'm now 35 with a family of my own and decided to get some questions answered.

Talk to you soon

Hi Don,

Did your family live near the Tri-City area (Kennewick, Richland, Pasco, Finley etc) in the mid to late 70's? My mother's name at the time was Sue (Suzanne) Faught, I was born in 1976 at Kadlec Hospital in Richland, Washington. She says the fathers name was David Hill Dayton, but she did not see him after my birth. This may or may not be the right Dayton family, if it is then it looks like David died in 2003. I'm still interested in getting as much information about the family as possible, especially medical history. If you prefer email, you can reach me at joenicora@me.com. Thanks for responding!

I'm trying to get some contemporary information about a particular Dayton line. The farthest back I went was with Moroni Dayton from Dingle Idaho. The line is as such:

Moroni Dayton 1834-1903
Henry Freeman Dayton 1870-1927
Donald Perkins Dayton 1925-2004
David Hill Dayton 1953-2003

I believe David Hill Dayton may be my biological father, so I'm trying to find any contacts that would be able to update me.

Thanks!

Don't know if you are still trying to research Richard M. Dayton and Anna Wright as it has been 11 years since you posted this, but I found this message when I was doing a search for Richard M Dayton. I recently obtained a marriage certificate for my 2nd Great Grandfather Harry R. Dayton who was born in 1868 in Brooklyn, NY and it listed his father as Richard M. Dayton and his mother name as possibly Anna Wright. The handwriting is not very clear, but there is a definate possiblity that it is Anna Wright. Whether it is the same as your Richard and Anna I do not know. I have not been able to find too much info on Richard M. Dayton. I'd be curious to find out if they are the same people you are researching.
I don't know if anyone has noticed this site. It is www.Findagrave.com . Family members and volunter's have been taking pictures of headstones and adding family history on some of them. It's easy to use and search.
Good luck,
tbeck

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the information. It will help fill in more of that branch of the family tree. I would have to check my notes, but I know Howard Dayton somehow links to my Dayton line in the Greenwich, Ct., area.

Steve
Re: Dayton family of Goshen, N.Y.

Hi Steve,
As you already know, Howard See Dayton (1880-1948)married Ethelyn Adams (1881-1968) in 1907 and remained in Goshen. I can not find where they ever had any children.

Alice Esther Dayton - born 23 March 1896; died February 1982 married Frank A. Van Wyck, born 28 May 1892 at Wallkill, New York. They were married 27 June 1918. They had two children: Margaret Van Wyck (who married Harold E. Young) and Doris Van Wyck, born 9 October 1923 (married John Francis Carl). I have recently found a child of Margaret and Harold's named Patricia A. Young, born 24 September 1946 in Newark, New Jersey. Alice and Frank lived in Middletown, New York.

Mabel Dayton, born May 1883 married Ernest Moorey. They lived in Philadelphia and ran a boarding house. It was called "Moorey House" and was located at 3910 Walnut Street. It was there as late as 1950. The area is now part of the University Hospital Complex and I've been unable to find out what happened to them afterwards.

Harry Dayton was born November 1881. When his mother, Harriet Ophelia (Vreeland) Dayton died 18 March 1941, he was not listed as one of the surviving children. Other than the 1900 census record I cannot find any reference to him.

Hope that helps a bit. If you find anything further, please let me know.

My Grandfather, Fred Dayton b 1885 d 1961 lived in Salamanca, NY when I was born in 1944. Prior to that he lived in N Townawanda,Niagra Co., NY. He married Lillian Lawrence and had four children, all born in N Townawnada, NY. Kenneth, Beatrice, Leon and Herbert.

According to information that was given to me, Fred Dayton was an orphan from a flood that occured around 1889. Possibley the Johnstown, PA flood, but this we don't know for sure. He was orphaned and placed in an orphange somewhere in NY. On his birth records he always listed Cooperstown, NY as his place of birth. We are looking for any information that anyone may have on Fred Dayton.

According to the LDS site Brewster was married to Ruth Judson before Betsy Willoughby. They also show his parents as Brewster Dayton and Ann Beardsley, but it appears that Brewster was a common name in the family as another submission shows a marriage to Isobel Minor. http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp My wife is descended from Asa (Ace) Dayton, he was killed during the War of 1812 in 1813.The family later moved to New York then South Dakota.
