I read your post and the resulting thread. I am African American and my mother's family are Deckards, from Palestine, TX (~ 100 miles from Waco). Around WWII, my mother and a few of her sisters moved to California. Any connections?
I am so sorry but at the moment I cannot get to the computer that is on. I broke my leg and my genealogy computer is in the basement and I cannot navigate the stairs. It will be 6-8 weeks before I can get down there. I will most happy to send it when I can. My husband doesn't do that on the computer. If you don't mind write to genobondo@yahoo.com and ask him. He has a copy. Sorry. Lavania

I am looking for any information on Elizabeth Deckard-Flemings. Elizabeth Deckard was born March 1848(approx.) in TN. She was mulatto. She and her sisters once worked for a Mr Simmons, her sister Rebecca became his mistress, they had a child together and were treated quite well. Elizabeth married Peter Flemings, they settled in Pontotoc County, Mississippi, purchased property, built a church, school house, set aside property for a cemetary and brought nine children into this world. Because of Peter and Elizabeth's love for family, the first of our annual Family Reunions began at their home in 1926.

I have been to Metz several times to check the records and never found any indication of my Deckard ancestors under any like-sounding name. Reviewing the history of the times leads me to believe that the probability of the three brothers arriving on the same ship at the same time is not a good bet. Their point of departure and port of arrival have never been determined by any verified records. It even may be that the three immigrants claimed to be brothers were not brothers but rather close relatives.

Ron, et al -
This is a relatively old post, but wondered what the latest thought on this was, re: the brothers emmigrating together. Weren't they thought to have come through Rotterdam?

Just wondering what the latest was on the Deckard immigration and where, near Metz, they may have originated.

I am planning a trip to the area. My father's family, Roos, originated in Rumbach, Germany, which is about 1.5 hours from Metz.

Happy New Year to all!

Is this the same "John" Johanne, Jacob Deckert/Deckard born 2/3/1791 in Wytheville, Va. If so, I am also a descendant.
