Frederick Dedeaux

My mother is the granddaughter of Frederick and Alexina Dedeaux. I am trying to find some information about Frederick. I believe Frederick was the son of Azalie Saucier (who I think was mulatto) and Clement Dedeaux (who I think was white). I found Frederick and his mother (listed as Asalee) in the 1870 listed with Frederick's siblings and Asalie's husband Daniel Calahan. I am trying to figure out the connection between Azalie/Asalee and Clement Dedeaux. Does anyone know?? Also, who was Daniel Calahan and what happened to him? Also does anyone know the date of death of Frederick and his wife Alexina? I know they were alive when my mom was born and she remembers them, so I am assuming they died between 1932 and 1940. Any information anyone can provide about Frederick Dedeaux and/or Alexina Malley would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I can't tell much about Eugene Walter (Walter Eugene), but I would like to know a little more about what everyone knows. Records indicate that Lillie (S.?) Love (Walker?) had several children in order from oldest to youngest: Robert Clarke Walker, Ella, Eugene, William Love, George, Lucille Newman, James Turner Newman and St. Elmo Joseph. All with the surname Dedeaux. I can find records that indicate that their father is Eugene Dedeaux who married a Lillie Walker in 1886. Census records never list Eugene (from 1900+) and we all know that the 1890 records burned :( so really there is not much of a record of him except the marriage and birth records.

I can't seem to find any links between Eugene (the father) and the Mississippi Dedeauxs other than records saying he was from Mississippi. The only Eugenes or Walters I can find in Mississippi do not fit. I am sure we would all love to know if anyone can enlighten us???

Also, Lilly Love (Walker?) seems like a dead end for the most part. Born in Tennessee in 1861? Might be hitting a barrier due to race on this one.

My last contact with them was at their 62nd wedding anniversary in Pacifica CA. I met their daughters Pearl,Grace, and Susan(?),and their son Elmo Jr. and his wife Sandy and their two daughters.
Hi,

I might have a descendant named Edward Dedeaux. The Josephine Dedeaux that I am inquiring about, my great grandmother, was married to a man named Joseph. At this time, I don't know his father's name. She is listed, in the 1900 Federal Census, as being a widow. Based upon the number of children which she had, as well as the age of the eldest child, it is unlikely that her husband was born in 1864. Do you know where Joseph and Edward lived? I have been contacted by someone, through this source, who has done extensive research on the Dedeauxes, tracing them back to two brothers who immigrated to Mississippi from France.

Hi,

Thank you for responding to my inquiry. If your grand father is Eugene Dedeaux, then we may be related. Do you know what county or town Eugene was born or raised in? After my initial inquiry, I was contacted by a Dedeaux who has done exhaustive research on the origins of the family. She has traced them back to two brothers who migrated to southern Mississippi from a town in France. She provided me with a tremendous amount of information, which I would be happy to share with you, if you are interested.

What would be most helpful is to provide me with the names of as many of Eugene's Dedeaux ancestors as possible. My grandmother was a Dedeaux and, thanks to the lady who I previosuly mentioned, I have a complete list of the names of all of her siblings. I would like to try to determine if you are a descendant of one of them.

If you don't mind doing so, would you let me know the city and state in which you live. I reside in Detroit, Michigan. I think that I have traced a child of one of my grandmother's brothers to Los Angeles, where he died in 1977 or 1978.

I look forward to hearing from you.

I am not sure if you already have the information I have but will be happy to share what I have. My research indicates there were 14 children born of Josephine Saucier and Joseph Dedeaux, one of which was Salvinia "Selena" Dedeaux in 1896. The list of these children include Lucina "Lena", John Nore, Samuel, Martial (Manuel?), Oscar, Lilly "Alida", and Henry to name a few. My information shows Samuel died in 1919.
If this helps and you need more info, send me an e-mail at:
Fireyflair@aol.com

Thanks, Becky

Descendants of Josephine Dedeaux

I am trying to locate my relatives from my paternal grandmother, Sylvania Dedeaux, who was born in Harrison Co. MS, in 1896. She died in approximately 1931. The only written record, which I have been able to locate, thus far, is the 1900 U.S. Census. It lists her mother as Josephine Dedeaux,a widow, born in 1855. It also lists the following siblings and the year of their birth:Lena (1879);Samuel(1880);Mary(1886);Manuel(1890);Oscar(1892);Lilly(1893);Henry (1898). The census document states that both of Josephine's parents were form Louisana. I believe that Sam married Ada Harris in 1901 and that they resided in Handsboro. They had children named Morice, Samuel or Nuel,Inell and Elinor. This informaiton is from both the 1920 and 1930 census. It appears that Sam had died by the time that the 1920 census took place. It also appears as if Oscar and Lena may have married individuals from Harrison Co. These are her only siblings about whom I have been able to find some additional information. I know that the Dedeaux family resided in and around Pass Christian. I have found that there a large number of Dedeauxs in this area. I also believe that my grandmother had relatives in Bond MS, because she and my grandfather lived in the area, for a period of time after they were married. I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who may be a descendant of any of these relatives or who may be able to provide me with informaiton which may be helpful.
Hello Ed. My name is Tom and I'm a genealogical researcher doing some research for you nephew, Marlon Melton (son of Inez DeDeaux Melton). We live in the same town in Utah.

I have found a lot of information about his and your ancestors, but cannot find out exactly who the father is of Walter Eugene DeDeaux (your father), born in 1875 in Pass Christian, Harrison County, Mississippi. I've attached a few documents about him including some census records and his WWI registration card.

Here's what I gathered so far about your and Inez's parents and ancestors are...

Your father, Walter Eugene DeDeaux was born July 15, 1875 in Pass Christian (Harrison County), MS. Parents unknown to me at least (I hope you can help me determine who they are!)
Walter 's grandmother was Anna Taylor, born in 1803 in Louisiana.
Walter had at least two 1/2 sisters (see 1900 census) named Juanita and Unitas Raymore, born in 1888 and 1890 respectively.
You mother, Anita Marie Remy, was born October 22, 1888 to Numa Remy and Palmyra Martinez.
Palmyra Martinez (your grandmother) was born born in 1864 or 1865 to Manuel (born in New Orleans in 1831 and Josephine Martinez bornin New Orleans in 1834).
Numa Remy (also written as Nelma - your grandfather) was born in 1861 in New Orleans to John Remy (born 1821 in N.O.) and Mary Rudes (or Roudes, born in N.O. in 1831).
Numa and Palmyra were married on December 18, 1886.
I think I found Walter's death record as October 8, 1936 in New Orleans.
The surnames of these people indicate you have Spanish (Martinez) and French (DeDeaux, Remy, Roudes) ancestry, as well as others.

If you know the names of Walter's mother and father both, this will help me complete the missing pieces of the family history. I also wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading your story about your Korean War experiences.

Thanks!

Tom
DeDeaux family of Pass Christian, Mississippi

I'm helping a friend research his family and am looking for more info on a particular ancestor. His grandfather was Walter Eugene (aka Eugene Walter) DeDeaux. His race is listed as negro, black and mulatto. He appears to be born in 1875 in Pass Christian, Harrison County, MS in July of 1875 and died in New Orleans in 1936. His wife was Anita Marie Remy, daughter of Numa Remy and Palmyra Martinez.

I even found a 1900 Census for Walter Eugene and it listed two sisters of his, Juanita and Unitas, but their last name was Raymore, meaning they were 1/2 sisters (age 11 and 9 in 1900). It shows Walter's grandmother as Anna Taylor, born 1836.

No matter what I do, I cannot determine with all certainty who Walter's parents are. He seems to be non-existent in the 1880 census when he would have been 4 or 5.

Any help would be appreciated!
