Hi Peter,

Hermine was my great-grandmother through her first marriage to Jacques (Jacob) Van Balkom.

I have a immigration record showing Hermine and Percy re-entering the US in 1924 (ages 45 and 42 respectively) from Canada. Percy was a retired stockbroker at that time. No children were with them. Their destination was listed as California.

Hermine had 3 children with her 1st husband (Edward Jacques, Hermine, and Ferdinand Jacqueline). Edward was in Canada and married in 1915. Hermine and Ferdinand Jacqueline (AKA Dee) would have been 23 and 25 years old respectively by this point.

I know that Hermine Schoonheyt-Van Balkom-Deeble and Percy Charles were married in 1911 (about a year after Jacques passed away in Holland). Edward, Dee, and Hermine would have been 16, 12, and 10 at that point.

It would be interesting to know what children were listed with them at Ellis Island in 1922. I know that both daughters, Dee and Hermine ended up in Florida as I have death notices for both of them there.

Regards,

Dan Van Balkom

Re: Percy Deeble Falmouth and Toronto

Hi Linda
I found out some of it but there are still some mysteries there.
It looks like Percy Reginald deeble 1926-1998 was the son of Percy Charles deeble and Hermine. Strangely it also looks like he graduated from the Univ of Ohio in 1951 with a place of residence as Belpre OH. Sounds possibly like a GI bill degree. I'm assuming it's the same Percy as I can find no other refs. If so he died in 1998 and was buried in Norway Bay cemetery in Bristol Quebec, just the other side of the Ottawa river from Renfrew Ontario. I found the Ellis Island entries of Percy Charles and Hermine in 1922. Interesting I see that Percy Charles's father Charles also passed through Ellis island May 13 1920, do you know what he was doing there? I've never managed to find his death reg in the UK so presume he died somewhere outside the country? I found Helena's in 1927. Was intrigued to see that Helena Sara's mother was a Burnett as my wife's family line in the UK also married into a Burnett line in Hampshire. I have a lot of the Deeble line going back to the 1600's and also much of the overseas lines in the US, Aus and NZ. Need to investigate the Ellis Island Deeble entries as their is a very intriguing one there for a Deeble family that arrived in 1896. It would appear that the head of family was a William D Deeble c1858 born in the US. The only person that makes sense for that is William F Deeble of DC who appears on the 1880 census
Samuel DEEBLE Self M Male W 43 DC Foreman For Can Co. MD DC
Elizabeth DEEBLE Wife M Female W 38 DC Keeping House WALES DC
Alice E. DEEBLE Dau S Female W 12 DC At. Sch MD DC
William F. DEEBLE Nephew S Male W 22 DC At Home DC DC
Annie DEEBLE Niece S Female W 7 DC DC DC

On the Ellis Island record he appears to be travelling with 3 small children and no wife. I have no idea yet which Deeble line this is though I think it may well be a change of surname from Deebel and that they were German immigrants.

Regards Peter
Wonder if you have found out what you wanted to know?
Eldest son of Charles Deeble 1855 - 1927. Percy's mother = Helena (nee Sara) 1858 - 1927.
Children = Ethel Mary b 1880, Percy Charles 1882, Nellie Evelyn 1884, Rose Helena 1886 (my husband's ancestor), Sidney H b 1888, Daisy Olive 1889, Marian Irene 1891, Florence Adeline 1895,Charles Cecil 1898 - 1917.

Family ran an Outfitters/ship's chandlers in Falmouth.
I couldn't help but reply to this post, even though I am not related. However I'm helping my next door neighbour research his family tree...we live in Australia (Toowoomba) but he is a New Zealander descended from one of Samuel Daniels' and Louisa Stevens' daughters Etheline, who married Ambrose Smith (whose mother, strangely, was also a Stevens) in Auckland in 1899. We have discovered how the Daniels family arrived in Australia and the Smith family arrived in New Zealand, but we haven't been able to find out how (or why) Etheline, born in South Australia, had gone to NZ. I now notice from your post that one of her sisters, Ellen, also ended up, and married in NZ. Do you know how or why they got there and if any other family members crossed the Tasman? Also, are you able to fill me in on the story of Samuel and Louisa as I found another mention of where she may have later married one of Samuel's brothers William.

If you wish, you can contact me directly on dulciesgirl@hotmail.com which is the email address I use for my genealogy research. I await your reply with much anticipation. :)

Hi Judy,

While I was following the Deeble line from Sampson DEEBLE born 1732 and Blanche WILLIAMS and then to my grandmother, Margaret Shanklin DEEBLE. I have sighted Mark's grave in the Ballarat old cemetary and a couple of months ago sighted Jane's grave in the Echuca cemetary. Neither of the graves had a headstone, but I do have the site numbers. I didn't go far with the Hicks line but did find William's headstone in the Mt Egerton cemetary. I could send you a photo if it would be any help. The photo's are very clear and contain details of others buried in the same grave.

Regards

John McQuillan jmcq@tadaust.org.au

Sorry about that - a 'senior moment'. I got somewhat confused - it was all far too exciting to see other reles that I didn't know about. I am related to Jane (born 1822) d/o Malachi DEEBLE and Jane BUZZA. This Jane married a Samuel DANIELS and had about 14 children, one of them Samuel who married Louisa STEVENS. Rather a large story around this relationship, but daughter Ellen ended up in NZ and married a Frederick George FLETCHER. Fred already had 3 children when his 1st wife died, then 6 more with Ellen. Daughter Emma Frances married Ernest William KENDALL, had 5 children. George Leonard was my father.

Hi - I am related to James Deeble and Elinor Craze through their son Malachi (b 1797). However, I did not know there was a daughter Elizabeth. I have noted that they had a daughter Eleanor 1788 and another Mary 1802 - when was Elizabeth born?

Hi Robert

Thanks for the information.

Am I correct in assuming that your g,grandparents were James Deeble, 1849-1917, born 29 July 1849 of Gellygaer Glams S. Wales and Mary Ann Watkins, 1852-1931, born October 8th 1852 S. Wales?

Interesting to find a relative, albeit distant, so close. We are in Westford MA. I am a gg,grandson to Eliza Deeble bap Kenwyn 6/6/1813 IGI C022951 married William Maunder in Feock 18/6/1832. She was the daughter of Daniel Deeble and Ann Andrew, Daniel being a son of James Deeble and Eleanor Craze, he being the son of Sampson Deeble and Blanche Williams, then you're back at Daniel Deeble and Martha Brimblecom

Regards Peter
Wow!

Your email just caused shivers. Her you go, you now have just found a line of Deebles (Cock, changed to Cocks) in Canada.

We are desendants of Harriet Ann Deeble who married Nicholas Cock in 1872.
Harriet (according to her marriage certificate) was the daughter of Sampson (b. 23 Feb 1809)and Mary Ann Deeble

My research has been difficult because the census reports for Kea, show TWO Sampson Deeble lines both Sampson lines are very close in age. One has the wife of Mary Ann (This is my line) the other Sampson Deeble line has a wife Mary. Both have a Thomas Deeble born in the year 1841. So you see, there is a certain amount of caution that comes into play on this line.

My email is heatcoat@telus.net. Please contact me here and we can discuss further and share some additional information.

Thanks
Yvette

Deebles in London/Cornwall

I'm researching Deeble for an elderly family friend in England. Her father, Wm Charles Deeble, was born in Bromley London in 1886. Using online resources, I can trace him back as far as his ancestor Sampson Deeble. Wm Charles' line looks to be (1) him/1886, (2) Daniel/1841-5 London, (3) Elisha/1795 Kenwyn Cornwall, (4) James/1758 Feock Cornwall, (5) Sampson/1732 Feock Cornwall. Is anyone else working on this family who can help me flesh it out/check the details? Thanks very much!
