I have a copy of the will of William Deighton from whom I am descended. He married Margaret Allison on 30.07.1708 in St Mary's Staindrop, Co Durham.

Only one son is named in his will and it looks as though his other children predeceased him as grandchildren are mentioned. The son who survived him was Seymour Deighton. His other children were Margaret, Charles, William, John, Hannah and Alice.

The grandchildren mentioned in William's will were:
William Deighton
Thomas, William, John, Hannah, Margaret and Alice Harland
Margaret (wife of Thomas Hutchinson)
Penelope (wife of Matthew Summors
William Burnop.

I, too, have seen the Eva le Scrope claim but have yet to find 'official' proof of the marriage of Eva to Henry de Dyghton so I'd be pleased if anyone could let me have proof.

Sorry, it now seems the James Deighton I have married an Elizabeth Orton in 1865.

James had a brother Thomas who also went to America. Both brothers died in Ohio.

Their father was George Deighton who married Mary Ann Matthews in 1844.

Does any of this sound correct for your family?

DAYTON/DEIGHTON definitive source?

Hello I tie into these folks through Ralph Dayton the 1639 immigrant to Connecticut, who apparently changed the name from Deighton. I am looking for (1) defintive proof he is from "the" de Deighton family and (2) an authoritative work on this family in England. There is a lot of "stuff" on the web about these folks, but most does not list sources. Any insight and direction concerning this family would be appreciated.

My name is Valerie Manning
I believe Akasha lives in or near Calne in Wiltshire, but I would not have known the where-a-bouts of NLD.
Clare was my mothers sister and also sister to Stanley, so she was my Aunt, and must have been born around 1918.Clare was in the A.T.S during the Second World War, and married after the war. Her married name was Mash, and as far as
I know she had no children.
I have two sons and a daughter but they all have only one name. It had never occurred to us to add Lonsdale. If it had, there may have been a family name from my husbands side of the family, as he and his Father had the same middle name.
Computers and having so many records easily available has alerted people to a new interest that they had not thought about before.
Thank you for offer of help---when I get stuck I will take you up on that. Regards, Valerie.

You are correct Akasha was Perry:she lives very near to NLD.
I wonder if you could please confirm your name.Did your sister Clare marry and did Matthew's full name include Lonsdale or,indeed any other children on your side of the family? Sorry to bombard you with questions.Do not hesitate to let me know if you want any parts of your family tree I may have knowledge, especailly as you are new to Ancestry.
Best regards and thanks again
I am new to computers as well as Ancestry, but will do my best !
Actually I have not seen NLD since about 1935.
Was Akasha Lonsdale called Perry earlier. If so, I have met her, but I upset her by not replying to a letter she sent me some 25 years ago. Also if it is Perry I think she may know my eldest son,Matthew.
I wonder if Norman Lonsdale Deighton does not wish to communicate with you because of a darker side, and I would not wish to put it on a public message board if that is the case.
I am particularly interested in Phillips and Florence, and my grandfather Oswald. I think Oswald was a very
interesting man & very talented. From all I have heard about him from my Mother ( who died in 1990) I think he was what one now calls bi-polar. He and his wife Kate had a very stormy marriage which ended in his suicide in 1932. Very sad.

Valerie.
My apologies for this delayed reply we have been away.
Thank you for making contact with me and I did not know about you mother's marriage and that there were children. Briefly, I am David Albert Lonsdale Every and my interest is in the 'Lonsdale trail' which started when Anne Lonsdale married Francis Deighton in 1830.I have tracked down over 20 Lonsdales. Were there any Lonsdales on your side of the family?
I received another response about Norman Lonsdale Deighton and have located him. Unfortunately, he refuses to talk with me. I guess you know of his whereabouts since you are so closely related. I am not sure how much you are into the genealogy of your family. I met recently with Rev. Akasha Lonsdale who is greatly into the research of your family history. Akasha changed her name by deed poll and is the daughter of one of Oswald's sisters.I have actually visited Oswald's grave for Akasha.Sadly it includes the four young children who died of scarlet fever within a week of eachother in 1880.Thank you again for the information much appreciated. Akasha will be thrilled with your info. if you are not already in contact with her.
David

My Mother was Winifred Mary Deighton, born 25 April 1904, and her brother was
Lonsdale Stanley Deighton, known as Stanley. I was born in Stratford, London in
1930, so Norman Lonsdale Deighton is my cousin. I have a photo of Norman at
about 9 months old, being held by his father, Stanley who was my uncle.
Stanley & Winifred, and also Clare who was about 14 years younger than Winifred. Their mother was Kate, nee Hill, and father was Oswald Philip Deighton, who was a clerk woking for Lamb's, the rum importers at one time.

Hello David, I have not forgotten - just been flat out since back from France. I was intending to look out some family stuff before meeting up but I just have not had the time to do it - and can't see it being in the immediate future. However, we are meant to be going back to France for a week next Wednesday but major strikes in France might mean we can't go - in which case I could have a look through my boxes (at least the stuff is together). Re Highgate, apart from "two rows to the right of Karl Marx and about halfway down", I can't be more specific. When I visit, I just tend to wander about until I find it. Not much help to you I know but that's all I can tell you. Haven't come across the official guide bit before except for the original, Western section - although there is someone on the gate and I have just said "I'm visiting my family grave". Do you want to email me at akasha@simplydivineceremonies.com and then I can give you my telephone number so that we can chat. Best regards, Akasha

Hello Akasha, We last chatted in August when you were in South West France. I wonder if you are now back in Calne and able to meet up for a short while. I shall be in London again before the end of November and would greatly appreciate some guidance about the location of the graves in Highgate Cemetery. Also,of course I think that we both have family history data which could be useful to each other.
Anyway, I look forward to hearing form you. If you are still in France then maybe we can chat on the phone about Highgate. The website suggests that on ecan only visit via an official guide. Surely, this cannot be correct.
Bset Regards David

Hello, I hope that I am not intruding upon your dialogue with Steve, who I communicated with some time ago I also spoke with his father about Ernest and his three brothers and three sisters. I am making the assumption that your grandmother was Gertrude, Winnifred or Maude. I do not think that Maude married but Gertrude married a 'Moyse'and Winnifred Courteney Reed.
My family interest is only concerning the use of Lonsdale as a middle name, originating from Ann Lonsdale in 1808. I guess that you already know this. However, It could be that you are referring to th eother Ernest Harold Lonsdale, who was the son of Stuart and died in Vancouver,Canada.
I would be very interested in any Lonsdales you know of from either family. I have found over 20 since 1808, my own name including Lonsdale derived from Ann.
Do not hesitate to telephone me if it is easier than writing back 01989 564710.We both may be able to help each other- both Ernest Deightons are from the sam efamily anyway, something else I suspect you are aware of.
Best Regards Dave
