Delfino Northwestern Italy

I am looking for any information on the Delfino family from northwestern Italy, which was once known as Savoy. My great great grandmother was Magdalene Delfino born about 1847. Following family lore her parents owned a large olive grove. Magdalene married one of the laborers (Francesco Salvaterra) who worked for her family. As a result of this union Magdalene was disowned by her family for marring a man below her social class. This is the only information I have on this part of the family so ANY information would be appreciated.

Hi:
I have been looking for Olive Appleton, just to confirm is your Dad's name Kenneth Appleton. From what i have learned, your Grandfather's name was Telesforo Delfino & he was from the Philippines. He was indeed a boxer. i did some research on his boxing name Pedro Campo & it really showed that he was a Filipino who lived in Philadelphia by that time.
Thank you & looking forward to hear from you soon.
Alma

Dr. Delfino is the author of several books including the one you mentioned about illegal lawsuits known as SLAPPs. In addition to a book he wrote on cancer and radiotherapy which I have not read, I know mostly of his books on capital punishment: Death Penalty USA 2005 - 2006 and the more recent Death Penalty USA 2003 - 2004. These two books are very popular in Hong Kong.

Los Angeles Times, March 27, 1935:

PARK CANAL SWIM FATAL

College Student Stricken While Taking Plunge at Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, May 26. - - Apparently taken with a seizure of cramps while swimming in the deep waters of Recreation Park canal last night, Marcio Delfino, 30 years of age, an agricultural student at the University of California and a graduate of Bakersfield High School, was drowned.
The fire department inhalator squad, summoned by David Hulme, son of Rev. Charles Hulme of the First Christian Church of Bakersfield and Lee and Paul Farrall of Route 3, Bakersfield, worked for more than an hour over the lifeless body.
It was Delfino's habit after finishing work each day to take a plunge in the canal. It is believed that he had just entered the water when Hulme and the two Farralls noticed that he was in distress.
He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Delfino of Route 3, Bakersfield; five brothers, Frank, Joe, James, William and Douglas, and two sisters, Mary Frnaces and Lena.

George and Laura lived on Bay Street in SF until he died in 1939 or so.

I remember going to see Jack and Jozie Delfino with my grandmother Laura; they lived on Union Street in San Francisco during the 1940's and 1950's.

I don't know if you are allowed to see my email address as I submit this message, but if anyone related to the above family names reads this, please call me in San Jose, CA at 408.265.5956

Auguri e grazie mille.

We never really knew what the background of my grandfather was. At first we were told he was from Spain, now some relatives are telling me that he was originally from Italy, possibly Sardinia. He was married to Olive Appleton of Philadelphia, had worked as a body guard for the Spanish embassy, and boxed under the name of Pedro Compo. This was in the 1920's. If you can give me any information on either the name and it's origins, or any family ties to this man, I would greatly appreciate it. He was rumoured to have moved to Hawaii after the divorce, sometime in the 1930's, and to have worked their with the royal guard. Please respond if you have any knowledge, no matter how small, Thank you.

Looking to trace roots of Leonard Delfino, mother was Carmen la Corte, born in Puerto Rico at turn of century; married a merchant marine named Delfino and had two sons: Leonard and possibly Vincent, and one daughter Marianne. She married and had her children in the 1920-30's. Died in Brooklyn, New York in the early 1960's. Her parents moved to PR from France and Spain. Thank you for any info!
