Delgado Y Colon in Guayama or Arroyo PUERTO RICO

Hello!

I am looking for my grandfather in the 1940 Census. At the time he would have been 2 months old, so listed as 2/12. His parents were Guadalupe COLON, and I think his father may have been Candido DELGADO (not sure about the first name- this may be the name of his son, my grandfathers brother). My mother says she thought the family was from Guayama, and my Aunt has cousins in Arroyo (which I believe used to be apart of Guayama)

The children are REINALDO (my grandfather), Carmen, Candido, Angel (not sure if male or female). The only thing I know for certain is my grandfather's birthdate (06 Jan 1940)- so I don't know how many of his silblings are older. I am wondering if anyone has any possible information they are willing to share?

The only info I have is what I printed, but birthday about as a guess 1878 and baptized on July 12, 1878 in Irapuato, Gto., Mex. Do you happen to know his parents name or other info. No other info at present, but will keep trying.

Pablo "Pablote" M. Delgado, 84, of Mesquite, New Mexico, entered eternal life Thursday, December 22, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. Pablote as he was fondly known to his family and friends worked at Stahmann's Farm for many years and continued his working career as a farm laborer in the Mesilla Valley. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

Just recently was able to find my grandfather known as Pedro Delgado in Calif, but his real name was Jose Zenon Delgado and baptized in Irapuato Guanajuato, Mexico. Parents were Micaela Acosta & Santiago. Also had brothers and sisters whose names according baptisim records were Jose Efren Nabor Delgado, Maria Paulina Juana Delgado, J. Gumesindo Antonio Delgado de Acosta, M. Perfecta Crescencia Delgado de Acosta, M. Sostenes Andrea Delgado. These were from records and all baptised at La Soledad, Irapuato Guanajuato, Mx. between 1871 - 1883. Took long time, but well worth it. Please if anyone has any info.

Madeline, would you happen to have any connection to Don Teodoro Delgado Delgado? He was a well-known hacendado in Carrizales and married three times: Julia Linares, Esperanza Casanova, Leonor Mercado.

Sadly I don't have any information about your father but I was interested in learning a little bit more about your mother. I myself am researching my lineage, in particular my grandmother's family. My grandmother, zaida, had a cousin that was named Edna de Jesus, who was one of seven or eight children. Edna's father's name was angel and she had a sister named luz Maria. If this corresponds to your family, I would love to learn more about the family through your historical trajectory.

Augustina Delgado born: about 1881 immigrated to US about 1900 into El Paso Tx. Married(?) Natividad Moreno Garcia had three children, my Grandfather Abraham Delgado, sister Elodia with Frank Garcia youngest. She remarried Apolonio Bustos and shows up in 1920 US Census with my Grandfather Abraham Delgado and his sister Elodia.

Rumor has it she was full blooded Indian and I need to find out what tribe she come from. Any information will be of help.

Don't try to flatter yourself as not ALL Delgado's descend from Jews and no I can assure you that my Delgado line isn't from slaves as you want to try to add an twist to it as if you're trying to insult someone. First of all get you fact straight, before you make up stuff, there were no Delgado's in the Caribbean before the inquisition,because the inquisition started in Europe even before the Caribbean was discovered by Columbus, the first Delgado that we know about in Spain was a Jew by the Name of Juan Delgado Pinto also known as (Moses Pinto) this was in the year 1235, way before anybody knew about the Caribbean. Any Delgado whom doesn't descend from this first Sephardic Jew or Spanish Jew, was because their last name was giving to them by their slave master, obviously if you're from African Latino descent, then you're not a real Delgado nor a descendant of Juan Delgado Pinto.

Sorry but Delgados were in the Caribbean prior to the inquisition and Spain records are there to provide solid proof of such. There may have been Delgado Jews in your past but again its not a raft swipe across all Delgados and I can assure you that my extensive research has proven a different aspect from yours. Prior to last names and the inquisition that you reference, there were no last names and people reference by description. What you reference is way after the fact.

It does apply to all, Delgado's the Delgado last name doesn't mean thin nor slim, it originated in Spain with the Sephardim or Spanish Jews, it is a compose last name of two Hebrew words Del=door Gado=great in other words Delgado or great doors, this is referring to the Great Golden doors at the Temple in Jerusalem, where the Delgado's belong to the priestly class or Levi, whom attended to opening and closing the great doors at the temple. So if you're a Delgado you're a Spanish Jew, remember the Canary Island were part of Spain and lots of Spanish Jew went to the Canary Island to escape the inquisition. look up for Juan Delgado Pinto also known as Moses Pinto. and search sephardim.com that's where you could find all the Spanish Jewish last names, is a list that the Catholic Church kept during the inquisition of all the Spanish Jews that they either force to convert to Christianity, burn at the stake or escape into Morocco, Canary Island and finally to Puerto Rico and the New World. Jibaro=Hebrew.

I don't know if you figure it out or not but if on the records it state "hijo natural" then that means that the parents to the child were not married so they would have to go by their mother's name. I hope that helps you.

That doesn't apply to all of the Delgados in Puerto Rico and just may apply to your line alone. Delgado mean "thin" so when people reference a person such as Miguel el Delgado because he was thin versus the other who may have not. Also, many of the Delgados from Caguas, Las Piedras, Juncos, San Sebastian, Gurabo, Trujillo Alto, and Guaynabo (just to name some) descend from Capitan Juan Mateo Delgado de Fonseca and his son Sebastian Delgado de Rivera from the Canary Islands.

am trying to find out if my family has any more family in the US that I don't know about. I know we have family in TX, OK, KS, CO, NM, and CA. But they all migrated from Chihuahua, Mexico. Specifically, Meoqui, Delicias, Juarez and Chihuahua, Chihuahua. My paternal surname is Arroyo and my paternal side is from Meoqui, Delicias and I know my Great Aunt lived in Chihuahua, Chihuahua. My maternal grandmother is from Juarez, and moved to Meoqui when she married my Grandfather, his surname is Nieto and my grandmother's is Arrieta. Her sister resides is in New Mexico along with some distant aunts and uncles and cousins. My grandfather's name on my Dad's side is Angel Arroyo and my grandmothers name is Maria del Carmen Delgado. My maternal Grandparens are Severo Nieto who died of a heart attack in MX in the 1980s and Aurelia Arrieta. If you think you might have some more info let me know. I know alot more I just didn't want to cluster it all in! My paternal grandparents live in OK and has 3 kids: 2 live in OK nad my Dad lives in TX. My maternal granparents had 11 kids. One passed a few years ago. 6 live here in TX, The one that passed lived in CA, and 4 live in Meoqui Chihuahua. Again I have a lot more info.

I know that my father Antonio Delgado, was from Las Piedras P.R. and his father was Patricio Delgado and their family originated from Naguabo. The family history as I know it goes back to the middle ages in Spain. In Spain they were Sephardic Jews or Spanish Jews, whom were expelled by the crown and that's when they enter Puerto Rico, and hid in the mountain region to escape persecution from the Catholic Church, becoming Jibaros very similar sounding for Hebrews. I know for a fact that the Perez last name, which in Puerto Rico are many of them, are also from Sephardic Jewish origin, the Perez or Peretz family name according to the bible are descendants of King David of Jerusalem. Delgado is Hebrew for great door in other words composite of Delet=door and Gadol=great, therefore Delgado, this were the great golden doors, that were in the temple in Jerusalem. The Jibaros of P.R. maintain a cohesive lineage by staying separate and marrying only with other Jibaros even thought through the centuries they forgot of their Judaism, they never became Catholics the majority became protestants, they avoided idol worshiping, and had their Ladino form of speech which was developed in Spain and brought to P.R. is a mix of Spanish with Hebrew pronunciation. The clue is in Raphy Levy song(Jibaro soy) That's all I know, I hope this Info will help you in your search.

Antonio vivio en Naranjito y alli estaba casado con Juana Rivera y luego se fueron a Comerio tenian hijos entre ellos que nunca conocimos,de alguna manera el(Antonio)dejo su esposa(creemos)y comenzo a vivir con mi abuela de Nombre Petrona Molina y conocida por todos nosotros sus nietos como Antonia Molina Alicea hija de Brigida Molina(probablemente Alicea)aunque en algunas partes mi papa Rafael aparece como Rafael Sanchez Molina y se dice que como hijo de Soilo Sanchez(cosa que no es correcta)Me gustaria saber que paso con Antonio Delgado molina,que nadie en mi familia supo mas de el murio supuestamente en los 60s y mi abuela volvio a casarse en Gurabo PR donde murio en 1983 a ella yo la conoci pero no Antonio,Que pasaria con mi abuelo? Alguien podria ayudar con info. gracias.
