Does not ring bell. Very little info on family. Very little passed on. Only know they lived in watertown ny, then long island city. Bari listed on ship manifest.

Can you tell me a little bit more about your Delia Family? When I read your post about a brother who went to South America, it made me curious.
We have a Bernardino Delia that supposedly left Italy (and his family) for South America. Does that name ring a bell with you?

I do not have a record of a Leonardo Delia at this time, but I will continue to keep my eyes open in my research.
I have recently discovered that our Francesco Delia's father was Bernardino Delia from Bernalda, Italy. Does that ring a bell with you?

My grandfather was Leonardo Delia. Married to Caherine Costanza. Lived in Watertown NY, LIC NY,maybe NJ. Came to US late 1800/early 1900. Went back and was in WWI Italian army. Very little info other than that. Died late 60s early 70s in queens ny.

Going to Bari May this year. Any info great!

According to the Babel Fish translation website, the above in Portuguese to English is as follows:

History and Genealogy of the Dalia Family - First and Second Generations Francesco D' Elia is the progenitor of this family in Brazil.

He was born in the city of Teggiano, Salerno, Italy on the 15 of November in 1851.
Son of Rosary D' Elia and Antonia There Regina.

In this same city he married Brown Filomena on the 2nd of February in 1873. She was born in Teggiano on the 19 of February in 1854, son of Giambattista Morena and Nunzia Maida.

The couple, together with the son oldest, immigrated between 1874 and 1882, for the city of Aiuruoca MG, where Francesco D' Elia started to sign his name as Francisco Dalia, last name adopted for its Brazilian descendants.

Francisco and Filomena had been parents of eight children:

F1. Salvador Dalia, born in Teggiano, 25 of December of 1874. He was married in 11 of October of 1911, Ribeirão Preto SP, Dagmar de Oliveira Young chicken, been born for return of 1899 in Isabel Saint RIO DE JANEIRO, son of Augustus de Oliveira Pinto and Minervina de Oliveira Young chicken. They had been parents of 4 children (N1 the N4).

F2. João Dalia Baptist " Sinhô" , been born in Aiuruoca, 30 of May of 1882. Single Faleceu, in 30 of August of 1943, the city of Varginha MG.

F3. Luiz Gonzaga Dalia " Lulu" , been born in Aiuruoca, 27 of December of 1884. De was married Clarinda Toledo Dalia, born 24 of February of 1880 in Aiuruoca. Lulu faleceu in 15 of August of 1938 in Aiuruoca. They had been parents of 10 children (N5 the N14). Lulu was married in second marriage with Madalena Maria of the Coast, son of Alvaro Jose of Costa and Mariana Da Silva Bemfica. Generation of this marriage does not consist.

F4. Vicente Gastão Dalia, born in Aiuruoca, 28 of March of 1886. Jose Fonseca Dalia, born for return of 1895 in Cataguases MG, son of Luiz of the Fonseca and Elvira was married Maria Fonseca Rasp. Vicente faleceu in 24 of December of 1963 in Belo Horizonte and Maria Jose in 8 of July of 1961, in the same city. They are buried in the Cemetary of the Bonfim. They had been parents of 4 children (N15 the N18).

F5. Dalia Maria, born in Aiuruoca, 8 of October of 1887. She was married Nicholas Lúcio Lourenço, born in Goa (India). Maria faleceu in 12 of March of 1912. They had been parents of 3 children (N19 the N21).

F6. Jose Dalia, born in Aiuruoca, 27 of December of 1888. Dalia Oak was married Ordália, born in 26 of April of 1888 in Varginha MG, son of Jose Frank Maximiano of Oak and August Maria of Almeida Oak. Jose faleceu in 11 of December of 1972 in Varginha and Ordália in 1 of June of 1970, in the same city. They had been parents of 8 children (N22 the N29).

F7. Dorvalina Dalia, born in Aiuruoca, 10 of October of 1890. Da Silva Bemfica was married Jose Sebastião. They had been parents of 2 children (N30 the N21).

F8. Amadeu Dalia, born in Aiuruoca in 8 of August of 1896. Garci'a Dalia was married Odete Maria. Amadeu faleceu in 26 of July of 1950 in Montevideo (Uruguay), where she was manager of the Bank of Brazil and was buried in São Paulo SP. They had been parents of 6 children (N32 the N37).

This thread is somewhat old but I thought I'd post anyway. I have a D'Elia in my tree, just curious if there is a connection anywhere.

My great-great grandmother was Concetta D'Elia, born in Teggiano around 1855. She married Cono Russo in the US in 1885 and then again in Teggiano in 1890. The two went back and forth between Williamsburg, Brooklyn and Teggiano a few times in the 1880-1905 period. Her last trip to the US was in 1905 and she stayed here until she died at around 95 years old in 1950.

Her parents were Antonio D'Elia and Saveria LaVeglia, both of Teggiano. I don't know much else about her siblings or parents other than names.

Any connections anywhere? D'Elia seemed to be a relatively popular name in Teggiano.

My great grandfather Angelo Mario D'Elia was born in Avellino,Italy on Sept. 15 1892 and left Italy around 1906 to live with an Uncle in New York. We don't know the uncle's name. Angelo later moved to Norwich,Connecticut where he married Sarah Rose Barca on Dec. 9, 1915. What I'm trying to find are records on his parents Camella Fredea and Francesco D'Elia. I don't know the birth dates for his parents. I think it would be around 1868 that they would have been born. If someone could please give me any info on Angelo's parents I'd be very pleased.

Vincenzo my nonno married Rosa Lusito died 1977
Francesco my bisnonno married Chiara Stella (I was always told Tamborra) but maybe that was wrong. The fact that there is a Chiarina somewhere makes me wonder.

Al leaves his wife and best friend of fifty four years, Cecile "Sis" (Auger) D'Elia; his loving children, a son, Peter J. D'Elia, Sr. and his wife Linda of Worcester; two daughters, Ann Marie Corcoran and her husband Jeffrey of Shrewsbury, Theresa L. Bailey and her husband Ronald of Millbury, his pride and joy grandchildren, Peter J. Jr. and Kerri D'Elia, Gregory and Darius Corcoran, and Christina Bailey. Al also leaves his devoted sisters, Grace Ventresca, Angelina Pepin, Lucy Hamilton, and Mary Silvestry; loving sisters-in-law, "Doe" Chagnon and Alice Mandella, nephews, nieces and close friends. Al was predeceased by a brother, Joseph D'Elia, and a sister, Rose Sachetto.

Alfred was born in Worcester son of the late Peter and Anna (Grilla) D'Elia and lived here all his life, he was educated in the Worcester public school system and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War. Al was a Worcester Police Officer for eighteen years before he retired. Previous to that he worked at the Millville Shoe Company. In 1980 Al was honored by Blue Cross Blue Shield at the Pier 4 Restaurant in Boston for saving the life of a female clerk at the Worcester Police Headquarters. Among the dignitaries attending to present the award were then Governor Edward King. Dr. Henry Heimlich, inventor of the Heimlich maneuver, presented the award. Al also recieved a Citation from the House of Representatives. During his tenure as a Police Officer, Al received several Meritorious commendations from the Worcester Police Department for his excellent police work.

Al was proud of his Italian heritage and enjoyed its traditions, especially at Christmas Eve when he would prepare various fish specialties for the family celebration. His homemade pizza was always a favorite at family get togethers. Al was a gentle, sincere, unassuming man who was dearly loved by his family and deeply respected by all who knew him. He will truly be missed. The family is deeply grateful to Dr. David Shepro and his entire staff for the compassion, kindness, and support given to Al and his family.

Al was a long time member of Our Lady of Loreto Church, The Pope John Council XXIII Knights of Columbus, The Auburn-Webster Elks, The Massachusetts Police Association, The Southern Mass. Police Association and the Southern Mass. Retired Police and Firefighters Association, East Side Post American Legion #201, The Local # 911 New England Police Benevolent Association, and the East Side Improvement Club.

Al's funeral will be held Tuesday, August 17, 2010 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 33 Massasoit Rd. Sylvio D'Elia had a brother or a son who was a Roman Catholic priest in Norwalk, CT in the 50's or 60's. He was married to my Aunt Marie Belia Greenwood Davis D'Elia. I also believe her name may have been spelled Merea per a recent census report I dug up. The McKnight you have in your Tree, I believe, was Harriet (Hattie). I will have to check my notes, not 100% sure. I will try to find out about the Davis children, my sister Marie will probably know about them, I came to the family late (raised by paternal grandparents).

The delia's I have also come Terrasini & in the 1870's. Yours & mine may be siblings. My Grama told me that that my Guiseppe's mother is Anna Bommarito who married a Addelia/Delia.

They are also linked to Vitale. I will post if I find any more clues - please do the same.

I do not have any of the names you mentioned but I also have not spent a lot of time on that side of my family. My Delias are Rosalia Delia married to Salvatore Ciaramitaro and her brothers Gaspare and Concetta. All immigrated to Detroit in 1900. My Delias were from Terrasiniin the 1870's. Their names, I am told, were at one point Addelia and also D'elia.

Somewhere back in time we may be cousins.

Thanks for replying. I have a couple Grace Moceri's. One of which I don't have a date of birth for. Her father was Vito Moceri who married Leonardo Corrado. Grace's siblings are Leonard, Nicolina, Rosa & Salvatore. Vito had a brother named Salvatore & his bithdate was 1867-1941.

Do any of these people match with your Grace Moceri?

I know it is the wrong surname board but I thought I would ask.

not sure which Carlo you are referring to. One in my message (father of Salvatore 23 Sept 1865) was married twice, once to Flavia Palazzolo in 1865 and Angela Tocco in 1865.

I do not have a record of a Carlo married to a Moceri, I do have a Mercurio Ciaramitaro that married a Grazia Moceri in 1863.

Hello all - I found this board and was wondering if anyone has the same problem that I have.

In my family I have Addelia & Delia families that are connected some how, but I can't seem to make the connection.

Please let me know if any of these people are in your trees:

Guiseppe Addelia (1874) married Guiseppa Palazzolo
Children: Anna (1895) & Antonino Addelia (1903)

Guiseppe's Mother: Anna Bommarito

Guiseppe's sibings: Vito, Paolo & Providenzia Addelia

Guiseppe Addelia that changed his name to Delia at Ellis Island - he married a Josephine Valenti.

Children were: Anthony, Anna(see below), Angelo, Salvatore, Lawrence & Kathrine Delia.

Anna (daughter of Guiseppe) appears to have married Antonino Delia. I assume a cousin?

Can anyone help me manage my Addelia's & Delia's? It is giving me a head ache! LOL

If I can connect these Addelia's & Delia's then I'm hoping to connect my Bommarito & Vitale families by marriage.

I am trying to find some information on Sylvio D'Elia who was married to Marie Davis D'Elia. Marie would have came into the marriage with two children, last names Davis unless married or adopted, June and Jacqueline. Marie was born in 1903 and lived in Bridgport, CT. Sylvio was born in Non-Western Hemisphere on Jan 12, 1899, lived in Trumbull, CT., died in Bridgeport, CT on 9-28-1983. Sylvio was a tool maker and retired from Bryant Electric. Searching for D'Elia family from Sambiase. Innocenza D'Elia married Rafaele Trombetta. Her mother's name was Concetta , unknown surname, and her father was possibly Francesco. Her son, Francesco Trombetta immigrated to the U. S. in 1903, returned to Italy, then came back in 1905. He was lving in Jersey City. Some time after 1905, he immigrated to Chicago, Il. There he married Jennie Macri. Innocenza ( Nancy) came to the U.S. (possibly abt. 1913) and died in Chicago in 1935. A Maria D'Elia was living with Nancy and provided the information for the death cert. I have no idea how Maria was related to Nancy. I have no further info on any of the D'Elia family. Does anyone recognize this family? It has been my brick wall for some time now. Any help would be very appreciated.

He was lving in Jersey City. Some time after 1905, he immigrated to Chicago, Il. There he married Jennie Macri. Innocenza ( Nancy) came to the U.S. (possibly abt. 1913) and died in Chicago in 1935. She is buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. A Maria D'Elia was living with Nancy and provided the information for the death cert. I have no idea how Maria was related to Nancy. I have no further info on any of the D'Elia family. Does anyone recognize this family? It has been my brick wall for some time now. Any help would be very appreciated.

Hi, I am continuing to try to trace a Marie Davis from the 1930 census. She was born in 1907, retired from Bryant Electric in Bridgeport, CT, and remarried a Sylivio D'Elia before 1979. Marie's mother was Nora Ryan Greenwood, her father was John Greenwood. Marie Greenwood-Davis-D'Elia had two daughters from the Davis father unlisted. They were Jaine and Jacqueline. One born in 1926 the other in 1927. The 1930 census shows Marie still married and that her husband was from Florida. Any information on Marie, Sylivio, Davis father/husband from Florida, or Jaine and Jacqueline would be greatly appreciated.

You sound like me, it is so hard to find people. Anyway, I do know there is a D'Elia web site, just typed in the last name on your search engine, then click on the web site. I have sent off for the death certificate of Marie D'Elia which I said in the other message, she was married to Silvio. After I receive her DC, I am going to try to send off for his. I am not going to persue the D'Elia after that, as Marie was married first to a Davis and then to D'Elia, but when I get more info, I will be more than glad to share.

Your Connecticut D'Elia family is of interest to me. My great grandmother, Johanna D'Elia Weible, was married in CT somewhere in the range of 1896 to 1900. She emigrated with her mother Violanda D'Elia in 1895 from Italy but I know very little about her family.

Please let me know if you learn anything about this D'Elia family.

I am looking for a Marie D'Elia that was married to a Silvio D'Elia and they resided in Connecticut. Marie was married before Silvio and she was a Davis. Marie had two daughters, Jaine(I think) and Jacqueline. One was born in 1926 about and the other in 1927 about. Marie was born 8-25-1907 and died 7-19-1983 in Bridgeport, CT. Her father's name was John Greenwood and her mother's name was Nora (Ryan) Greenwood, all resided in CT. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Silvio D'Elia was born 1-12-1899 in non-western hemisphere, died 9-29-1983 also in Bridgeport, CT. Thanks.

SCHUYLER FALLS — Kathleen Mary D'Elia, 65, of Schuyler Falls, died May 15, 2006, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born Jan. 21, 1941, in Queens, N.Y., the daughter of Elmer T. and Lorrette (Grivich) Colton. Kathleen married her husband Peter on Oct. 30, 1971, in Queens Village, N.Y.

She was an avid gardener and loved all types of pets. Kathleen loved taking walks in the woods. She worked as a volunteer reading teacher at Holy Name School and AuSable Forks Primary School in AuSable Forks. She was also a director of education at St. Stanislaus Kostka.

She is survived by her husband, Peter D'Elia of Schuyler Falls, N.Y.; one brother and sister-in-law, Deacon Thomas and Nancy Colton of Suffern, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Lorrette (Grivich) Colton; and one daughter, Mary Ellen D'Elia.

Calling hours were held on Wednesday, May 17, 2006, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer- Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks.

A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, at 10 a.m. on May 18, 2006, at Holy Name Catholic Church in AuSable Forks. Burial will be on Friday, May 19, 2006, in St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y.

Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Name Catholic School in AuSable Forks.

Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Looking for information on any Delia of Terrasini and Favarotta Sicily. My Great Grandmother Rosalia (b. about 1876 died Oct 1961) married Salvatore Ciaramitaro son of Carlo Ciaramitaro. Rosalia and Salvatore came to the US and settled in Detroit. Their children started a produce commission house in Detroit.

Rosalia had a sister named Concetta. That is all I know about her past.

Sorry this has taken so long but I was not notified when you posted your message. The only info that I have on Maria Christin D'Elia is what I have already posted. She married a Serafino Marsocci and they immigrated here from Tora e Piccilli, Italy in 1893 on the Neustria along with 4 of their children. Eugenia, Adelaide, and Dorotea. Christina and the children came under the maiden name of Christina D'Elia and Serafino came of course under his name or Marsocci. It seems that women did that back then. I wish you luck in your search.

Hi, The only D'Elia that I have in my ancestry search is a Maria Christina D'Elia who married Serafino Marsocci and lived in Fall River, Ma. Serafino died in 1898 and Maria Christia died in 1921 in Fall River, Ma. They are both buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Fall River. They were my husband's great grandparents. They immigrated here from Tora e Piccilli, Italy in 1893 on the ship Neustria. If your D'Elia is in any way connected with these D'Elias I would sure like to hear from you. I know that there are some Marsocci and Luminiello families still living in the areas of Massachusetts and Rhode Island but I have not been able to find them yet.

From what I have about Christina she was born approximately 1845. Married Serafino Marsocci and immigrated to the US in 1893 on the Neustria. They made their home in Fall River, Ma.
