Francis King Dell (AKA Frank King Dell) born abt 1853, Welland, Ontario

I need help identifing the parents of Francis (Frank) King Dell. I have two marriage certificates that show different names for his parents.

Francis Dell married Catherine Simpson on November 18, 1873 in Welland Township, Welland County, Ontario. His parents are listed as Nelson Dell and Deborah Dell.

Frank King Dell married Annie Marie Gibson on October 16, 1920. His parents were listed as H. N. Dell and Ms. Current.

Is this Francis (Frank) King Dell the son of Horatio Nelson Dell and Mary Ann Current?

I have found Francis King Dell on the Ontario Census for 1881, 1891 and 1911, under the name of Frank Dell. Catherine Simpson Dell died in April 1917.

Does any one have access to the 1861 census that might show his parentage? Any informtion would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Robin, I agree with you that James was a son of Obed, and a brother of Albert and Horatio Nelson. The only doubt that I have is the "James Elgin" of the 1881 census, wherein he is listed as English while the rest of the family is listed as German. That probably was based on the mother Mary Stenholdts whose name seems to be German(could that be Steinhoff?). Can we be sure that James Elgin is the same person as James E. Dell?

Henry Harvey DELL (1818-1892) married first1840 Sarah CHAPMAN. Their only child, William Henry Dell (my great grandfather), was born 1845.

Sarah apparently died, because Henry H. was shown as widower in 1851 census, married second Anne APPLEFORD 1852. They had eight children:
1. Daniel Appleford (1853-1904) m Annie Elizabeth HOOPER.
2. Sarah Ann (1855-1928).
3. Martha Jeannette (1858-1922).
4. John F. (1860-???).
5. George Edward(1862-1913) m Kathrine Edith "Ritti" ADAMS.
6. Ada Bell (1863-1931) m William WILCOX.
7. Joseph Shefley (1866-1916).
8. Frank Seymore (1868-1921) m Annie GARLAND.

I am looking for the details of a Thomas Dell who married a lady called Sarah ? They had a child in 1797 called Philip DEll who married Elizabeth Hopcraft.I know Philip was born in Chesham Bucks UK ,but it appears that his parents were not locals therefore i have been checking the areas around bucks ie Hertfordshire.I presume Thomas must have been born anytime between 1759 to 1779 ,however all my searches have come to no avail;if by chance anyone reading this message has any info for me i would be really grateful.

I'm researching the Dell family, and would like to find cousins, the descendants of Paul Dell and wife Ruth Thomas. They were married July 25 1921, according to "The New Zartman Family Book", and had two daughters: Grace M. Dell, b. 7/4/1922; and Yvonne Dell, b. 12/25/1923, d. 9/17/1932. I don't know if they had any other children after the book was published.

Also, my grandma told me that Paul ran away at age 16 to join the Canadian army, which I'd love to verify. In a search of Canadian soldiers' records, I found a William Paul Dell, which is the only close match. Paul's father's name was William Dell, and it's possible I suppose that Paul was a William Paul Jr, and went by Paul.

My daughter's great grandfather, Wesley Howard Dell, was born in Adelaide, Middlesex, Ontario, Can to William H. Dell and Annie J. Rutledge Dell. He had several siblings: a twin sister, Essie, who died as a teenager; Cassie N., Allie M., and Kathleen (Kay). I notice there are many Dell families in Adelaide in 1901. Does anyone know if all these families are related--are they all brothers? If so, who is their father? I do not have access to any other census record at this time. I just found out that my GGGgrandfather Solomon Dell (born 1822) was married to Clarinda Miner. Solomon was a famous hunter in Southern Ontario in 1800's. He also patented a spinning wheel. He and Clarinda had four children: Franklin, Byron, Linnie and Celesta. That's all the info I have on these children. Anybody find them in their trees? Clarinda parents were Truman Miner and Elizabeth Morrison and sister named Beulah.

I think I have finally reached the point of a major breakthrough. Does anyone have info on the family of Robert Dell b. Dec. 5, 1864.The 1901 Ontario census shows that he and his family lived in Dunwich Township. My great grandmothers name was Eliza Jane Dell she married Arthur Charles Ramsey. This census shows Robert as having a daughter named Eliza J. b.March 11,1889. Robert's wifes name was Charlotte. Their other children were Jessee N. (b.Mar. 11, 1897,) Solomon (b.Apr. 8, 1895,) Jeannette V. (b. Sept. 22, 1893,) George L. (b. Feb. 18, 1892,) Herbert M. (b.Aug. 16,1890,) Annie E. (b. SEpt. 15, 1887,) Charlotte (b. Jul. 15, 1900,) Robert W. (b. Apr. 2, 1886,) and Bertha (b. Oct. 4, 1898.) My grandmother did not know the nsames of her mothers parents but knew she was born in Elgin Co. Grandma has just recently started doing her family history and has gotten me into it. I am so hoping to be able to give her the names of her grandparents but want to confirm before I go blabbing. Looking for information on the marriage of Hazel Dell to Leroy Ernest Baxter, sometime in the early 1940s and possibly in or near St. Louis, MO.

Leroy Baxter was my uncle but I never knew him. He was killed while in the US Navy, in August 1943. Their last known address was in St. Louis, MO. Leroy was born in 1920 so I am guessing that Hazel Dell was probably born around the same time. Also guessing that they were married in the early 1940s.

Apparantly my grandparents didn't approve of the marriage and so I have no information about Hazel or whether there were any children.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Looking at Census records, I found two possible families - one from Niagra (Dad Arthur, Mom Louise, kids Frank, Russel and Marian) and one from Orange (Dad Edward, Mom Susan, kids Stephen, Frank and George).

Charles Dell probably born between 1830-1840 married a woman named Charlotte ______. They may have had more than one child..the one I am searching is

Mary J. Dell (Jones, maiden name) (Death certificate, certified from Rhode Island State Archives)..Mary was 33 years old at the time of her death, she died on May 4, 1894. She was the wife of Peter J. W. Dell. Peter supposedly was born in New YOrk.

Peter J. W. Dell married Mary J. Jones in Providence, Rhode Island on June 8, 1876. Mary was born about 1861 and it says in Connecticut.

In 1880, Mary Dell appears in Attleboro, MA as a woman with 3 very young children, they are:

Margaret Anna E. Dell born September 23, 1876 in Providence, Rhode Island she married Emmanuel Milton Johnson, he was born in New Bedford, MA.

Burlington A. Dell (male) born March 23, 1879 in Providence, Rhode Island

Lottie G. Dell was born August 22, 1881 in Providence, Rhode Island.

The interesting thing about this family is I cannot locate the Mary Jones as a baby or small child in 1870 on the census, nor can I locate Burlington A. Dell or the Lottie Dell.

I am trying to trace the ancestors of James Dell b. circa 1844(Aldbury/Tring area) who married Harriet Gower, if my research is correct they had 5 children, one of whom was Edward William Dell b:1873. Edward married Emily Puddephatt in 1901 - I am looking for James Dell's ancestors ( I have descendants of this line to present day) and also ancestors of Emily Puddephatt.

Emily's father was William P who married Elizabeth in Aldbury.

I am looking for any information on my maternal Great-Great Grandmother, Sophia Dell. She gave birth to my Great-Grandmother on October 31, 1878 and gave her up for adoption. She was at the Union Infirmary in Greenwich at the time but I have traced most of her family to the Hertfordshire area. It looks like she may be the Sophia Dell who married Walter Sibley in 1895 in Watford, but I'm not sure. She had sisters Sarah Ann and Maria and a brother Thomas whom it looks like died at the age of 18 in 1874. It looks like Sarah Ann may have married George William Cook in Leverstock Green on July 4, 1883, but again, I'm not sure.

I am looking for the names of parents to Anna Margaretha Dell born possilby in Mansfield Ohio 12-3-1857. She married Daniel Willis Walker (3-14-1856) who was also possilby born in Ohio. Anna had known siblings, Michael, Adam, Lizzie, George and Mary. I have no dates for them, but at one time some or all moved on to Chicago Illinois. I have it noted that Daniel and Anna at sometime moved back to Mansfield Ohio and lived out their days. Daniel and Anna had a daughter by the name of Eldora (Jan 1881). I do not know of any other children. Daniel had at least 2 brothers by the name of Samuel and Elmer. Daniel and Anna's daughter married a man by the name of Jay Anderson in Iowa about 1896 and had a daughter named Charlotte. Jay must have died or disappeared because in 1900 Eldora married Charles Sheppler possibly in Iowa. Charles and Eldora lived their lives out in Cando ND. I am looking for ancestors of ADAM DELL, who sailed to NYC and then went to Ontario, Canada where he worked on the farm of a maternal uncle (name unknown). He moved to Kent Co., MI about eight years later, married CATHERINE BOWMAN of Canada. A few years later he moved to Eaton Co. where he was a farmer. They had twelve children. William Marion Dell. he married Lola Marie Sampsel May 2, 1897. He was struck by lightening and suffered brain damage that altered his personality violently. Lola and William were divorced, and after trying to make it on her own, she sent three of her children to live with relatives, and allowed her oldest, Goldis, to marry at age 13. Lola married three other times, and was loved and adored by her family. she managed to keep her family close despite being separated.

I have no other information about William, except birth and death dates, but no locations on any of them, though that side of the family was generally from indiana.

Charles was born 12 May 1868 in Col.Oh. to Frederick Dell (Doel) and Elizabeth Katzenmeier. Charle married Lena (Katharina Helena) Aupperle on 26 Nov 1890. One child,Herbert was born on 28 Jan 1889. Herbert died in Fla on 10 Jan 1964. Herbert was raised by his aunt. I do not know when Lena died and Charles was still alive in 1937 when his brother William passed. Have traced back to Joseph Howard, born circa 1808.

Joseph married Sophia Hall (daughter of John Hall), in 1833, in Hemel.

They had a son, John Howard, who married Elizabeth Dell, in 1855.
They raised a large family in Hemel, including my great grandfather, Goodwin Spier's Howard.
Goodwin married Ellen Millington, who may have had gypsy connections.

Joseph was transported to Australia in 1837, for crimes committed (mostly petty).

Several years after his departure Joseph's wife, Sophia, remarried.
Her new husband was James Dell.

I do have some history on descendents of Sophia and James.

Gary Robert Dell, a dear son and brother passed on to join our Lord in heaven on December 19, 2003. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Callaway Dell in 1958; and followed by his adoptive mother, Doris G. Pepper on December 21, 2003. He is survived by his father, James F. Dell, Albuquerque NM; Doris' husband, William B. Pepper, Albuquerque N.M.; his four brothers, James C. Dell, Santa Fe, N.M.; John B. Dell and his wife, Tamara, Olympia WA; Craig Alden Dell and Kimberly Rojo, Seattle, WA; Steven P. Jacka and his wife, Linda, Toronto, Canada; and his nieces, Therese Dell, Becky Braaten, Erin and Marcia Crosbie. His brothers, father, aunts, cousins, and friends will miss Gary and his great sense of humor. Peter and Elizabeth were married from 1860 until he died 1874. She then remarried, to a William Thomas, and they moved to Sanilac Co., MI where they were censused in 1880. Can anyone furnish a copy/extract of the 1871 Norfolk Co. (Woodhouse) Ontario census showing this family? My index says they are located on p. 39.

Elizabeth's future husband was also indexed in 1871 Norfolk Co. I would like to know what children he had then. He was listed in Simcoe, p. 67. In 1880 he had James 15 and William 9. Thanks for any help.

Looking for information on William Dell born about 1801 in unknown location in Canada. William, wife Lucretia (b.about 1809 in New York), and children William J. - 15, Joanna - 12, Burris - 9, Benjamin R. - 7, John H. - 4 and Lanora L. -1 are listed on the 1850 US Census for Burtchville, St Clair, Michigan. William J. was either born in New York or Canada, the census is hard to read. Joanna was born in Canada. The remaining children were born in Michigan.

By the 1860 Burtchville, St Clair census, only William, Lucretia, John H. and daughter Chloe age 11, were listed in the household.

The 1870 Burtchville, St Clair census lists on William and Lucretia.

In 1880, William Dell age 79 - widower was listing with his daughter Chloe and her husband, James Parliament in Churchill, Ogemaw, Michigan.

Chloe Dell Parliament is the only child I have been able to find in census records from 1860 forward.

Any information on William Dell, parents, marriage, earlier census records, would be greatly appreaciated.

I know that the family lived in the Pittsburgh area for as long as I know. My Parents Edgar Oliver Joynes and Sara (Sadie) Dell lived in Mckeesport until 1931 when they moved to Louisiana. I was born in McKeesport on January 13, 1924 and we lived on Muldowney Avenue in Pittsburgh area until 1931.

My mother died in 1987 and I never learned very much about her family, except I know that her parents lived in the Pittsburgh area because I remember visiting them when I was small.

I think that my mother's brother John 3 married and his wife's name was Marie I believe.

Any help that I could get would be greatly appreciated. I am 78 years old and would like very much to find something about her family to add to my family history - which I have traced on my father's side back to England to 1651.
