Simeon Deming b. 1 Jun 1750 Wethersfield, CT d. 1836 Glenville, NY

Fellow researchers: After much digging I am persuaded Simeon's father is Solomon Deming b. 8 Jul 1722 Wethersfield, CT & d. around 1811 Howard, NY. Simeon's pension pages mentions siblings Lucy and Asa and that he and his wife married 7 Nov 1779 in Canaan (then New Canaan) Columbia Co, NY. When one tracks the proposed father Solomon's movements out of Wethersfield, his known children plus where these were born and/or baptised, Simeon's own dates and movements parallel exactly. This means that Solomon Deming who m. Eunice Caulkins was Simeon's brother, too, and there were other siblings, including a Zebulon. Simeon and Mary parents of several children, my line Asa who m. Kezia Perry.

I have no other info on her other than this, she was widow (Mrs. Marshall) at the time of her marriage to Samuel Hurst and she had a daughter Elizabeth Marshall b. 1769 in Manchester. Could this be the same Elizabeth Demings??
I have also been unable to find any info. on the Marshall she was married to. Any info. you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Hi Tina,

I have acquired a book "Descendants of Anthony Demings and Elizabeth Tuck" from The Shelburne County Genealogical Society. That is where the Demings originally settled.
Here is the first paragraph: Family folklore says Anthony, Born in Oporto, Portugal was kidnapped as a child and taken along with his nurse to Salem, Massachusetts. He later moved to Manchester, Mass. He was a master of a fishing vessel and landed in North East Harbour, Shelburne County about 1767. Tradition says be brought his wife and son back and settled at Port Razoir (Now Shelburne). He had built a cabin here and was established begore Colonel Alexander NcNutt arrived. As one of the "old settler" he received a Loyalist grant in what is now called Carleton Village. He is listed on the 1786 and 1791 Poll Tax records as a farmer. In 1788 he was appointed the fence viewer for his area.
I have seen the spelling of DeMings; Demmings; and Deming.
My spelling is Demings.
Who is your husband's family? And where are you located?
I have recently started back up again and would like to connect with other again.
I am willing to help in anyway I can.

Hope to hear from you,

Karla

Hi, I am married to a Demings, and I am supposed to spell that DeMings. My husbands family is from Nova Scotia with a history that supposedly comes from Portugual. Apparently this story is supposed to be well documented, and I would love to get my hands on this story that is supposed to be documented in some musuem there in that province.

Hello. I thought this might be of some interest to you folks here. THIS IS NOT AN AD but I did list the item for sale and have since found out its history. I really didn't know what it was when I posted it for sale but I've done some research and found that I have Capt John Deming's ship's log when he was master of the brig Odessa in 1836. John was married to Clarissa and descended from John Deming (1625-1705) who is one of the "fathers of Connecticut". It has been in my family for over 100 years for some reason but we are no relation. I've posted it here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/400259760793?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:...

A Digest of the Early Connecticut Probate Records, compiled by Charles William Manwaring. Originally published in 1904 and 1906, the copy I have was reprinted in 1995 by Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. Mrs. Elizabeth Welles will is on pages 379-381 of volume 1.

The Great Migration - Immigrants to New England 1634-1635, vol II, in the article on Nathaniel Foote also cites her will in making the case that his wife Elizabeth is "probably" Elizabeth Deming, sister of John Deming.

As far as Thomas Deming, husband of Mary Sheaffe of Hartford, I believe I have some DNA evidence that strongly suggests he was not John Deming's brother.
Ah, what a few years of research will do.

Rufus Deming (born Rufus Curtis Damon 1792 in Scituate, Massachusetts) moved first to Belmont County, Ohio where he married Mary Farra/Farrah in 1821, they had 4 children: Joseph who married in Illinois and moved to Wisconsin; Oliver who may have married 3 times, was a Stone Cutter and farmer, lived in Missouri, Wisconsin and his descendants lived in Adams County, Illinois; my gg grandmother, Esther Deming who married John Cobb in Adams County, Illinois and moved to California where the family settled. Rufus (and his 4th wife) followed Esther to California - I have their story - contact me at marhinton-at-earthlink-dot-net for information). Their fourth child, William remained in Ohio. He was only eleven days old when his mother died so needed a nursing mother to care for him.

I would love to hear from descendants.

Margie

I swear i'd forget my head if it wasn't attached! harriett was also in the 1860 census with orrin and it wasn't long after they were married. she was only 19 at the time! now a days that would be taboo almost! anywho, definately going to the link now.
That is wonderfull information, very cool! but my Harriett was born November 22, 1841 Bronson, Ohio ( i made a slight boo boo when posting Norwalk as place of birth, my bad). She did marry Orrin M. Babcock and I didn't know his date of death so thank you so much for that. After he died, she married my great great grandfather, John Daniel Lamke (finally found their marriage in familysearch but her maiden name was listed as mercer!!! and it wasn't!!!!!! grrr!!!!) and after the last baby was born they pulled up stakes and came to Canada! The reason I want to find her mother's name is to either prove or disprove a touchy matter (honestly i sometimes wish i was adopted!)
Who knows maybe Jabez and Amos are uncles or something but that is amazing history. I love genealogy sometimes. :D Anywho, Thank you again for the information and I will definately check out the link. If you have anymore ideas as to where to look (my brain has oozed out of my ears a few times lately so I'm out of ideas) here's my e-mail address: ktireland@hotmail.com.
Happy Hunting!
Kate, a very gratefull one!

Re: Harriet(t) Deming

Have you looked at the sons of Benjamin Deming and Fanny Tilden?

Son Jabez (born MA) married Rebecca Whitmore (born VT) and had 14 children in Bronson, OH (right near Norwalk). Jabez is buried in Norwalk. One of his children is Harriet but born 1847.

Son Amos (born MA) married twice (once to Fanny Witherall, born VT) and also had many children in Huron County - one in Norwalk and one Harriet born 1840 who married a Daniel Lamke. Amos also had a son named Perry (remember that name)

Now Harriet in 1870 census with Orrin, has sons Perry (there's that name again), Frank and Willie. Orrin Babcock died 27 Jan 1875 in Nelson, Illinois but death in Norwalk, Ohio newspaper. Harriet married Orrin Babcock 10 Aug 1859 in Huron County, Ohio. In 1860 they were living in Norwalk.

Basically Harriet was in the area of Jabez and Amos when she married in 1859 - Norwalk. It would seem if the John you mentioned was born in Mass he is probably connected to Jabez and Amos. Benjamin did have a son John but he is in New York married to a Harriet OLCOTT and appears to have stayed there.

Check out this link - it may be a start: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op...

It references a book on this Deming family.

Charlene

Hello! I have a Harriet(t) Deming b. 1841 in Ohio on my family tree. Her first marriage was to Orrin Babcock in 1859 and later to J.D. Lamke (my great something grandfather). i have found out that her father's name is John but can not find her mother. Just wondering if anyone has info or is related and has that information. Actually any specifics on her parents would be great. i have exhausted my online search. Thank you in advance! Kate

which deming family? I am a deming, with relatives in Indiana, texas, oklahoma as well as CA and ND. My dad was Richard Deming, he was one of three brothers, James (deceased) and Douglas. My grandfather was Wayne Deming (died in 1985) and had numerous siblings, which I am currently researching to get their real names (knew most by nicknames). My grandmother was Zelda Louise Franklin Deming. Both are buried in Thomas, OK with my uncle Jim. My Aunt (Douglas' wife) is also working on this and we are comparing and consolidating our information.

if you think you have connections, please do contact me. I am helping my nephew with a homework project gone crazy ;-)

have a wonderful day!

kelly
