I kept in touch with her for many years after moving back to PA; but lost contact with her. I think of her often. She had a son and a granddaughter; but I can't remember their names.
J W Dennison m Addie Treadwell Lauderdale County, TN

I am looking for this family. According to a marriage bond and death records (all of the information I can find on JW,) he was born in 1879 in Tennessee. They were married in Tomato, Mississippi, Arkansas in 1900 (just across the boarder of TN). She is listed on the 1900 census as a boarder in Lauderdale County, Tennessee, he is not listed with her, it does say she is married. I cannot find him anywhere. I cannot find their family on the 1910 census, although I believe they still lived in Tennessee as their children's birthplaces are all listed as Tennessee on the 1920 census. According to TN death records, J W died in 1917 (so not on 1920 census) in Lauderdale County, TN. Addie goes on to marry again and I have found her and some of her children on the 1930 census. This is my great grandmother's parents, but she never shared much information about her family. Addie married DF Crihfield in 1920, so if anyone can help me, I would appreciate it!

Hello again. I well remember visiting with Myrtle there in her home up on the hill above Lake Dore when I was collecting stories for the Dennison book. She was a lovely lady and a real source of information.

She showed me the Dennison family bible that she had, John Dennison and Rachel Potter's bible, and I believe she intended to pass it on to her son Gordon, who lived at that time up in Petawawa.

I think Ormie Dennison was my Dad's favourite cousin and Dad told me almost as many tales about Ormie as Ormie had himself. I too wish I had written them all down! He led quite a life, partially because he had such an 'itchy foot' and kept on the move all his life long.

We visit the 'valley' every summer and always drop in to visit The Point churchyard, so we drive by Myrtle's old log home, the old Greersford Post Office, each time we are there and I think of her.

Lorna Milne

Re: William Dennison from Canada to Ohio

Hello. I am sorry to say that I didn't have any luck. I tried many Ohio sites as well as several neighbouring state sites. Over the years I had tried New York state sites as well without getting any takers. I am fortunate enough to have a signed copy of your book. I received it from my grandmother, Myrtle Smith (nee Leech) of Lake Dore and you were kind enough to sign it for me when you spoke at Renfrew Geneological Society meeting a few years ago. If I recall, I believe that you spoke to the meeting about the importance of preserving and making available our census records. I have enjoyed it very much. It reads very much like the stories that I heard growing up. I can almost hear the valley accent in the prose. I was lucky enough to have been visiting with my grandmother more than once when Ormie Dennison visited and he was quite a storyteller. My regret was that I never wrote them down. At the time I guess I thought I would always remember them! I also enjoyed reading about your father very much. My grandmother was always proud to say that she was a cousin. My sister and I have a small piece of Dennison/Pierce property on Lake Dore that has passed to us through my Grandma.

I have worked off and on for years on my various Ottawa Valley family lines, especially when I was living in Ottawa and had easier access to the National Archives and British War Office Records. My Dad was from Lake Dore and my mom's family first settled on the Opeongo before moving into Eganville. I would consider it akin to finding the Holy Grail if I could learn more about either John Dennison or his wife....especially his wife. I have wondered much about what may have happened to her.

I tried to follow up on a few possibilities in Ireland but was not able to find anything satisfactory. I have often thought about what John Dennison must have witnessed as young boy growing up in and around Wexford and Enniscorthy during his youth as that was such a frightening time in Wexford's history.

Recently another cousin has stimulated me to resume my Dennison search again so perhaps we will exchange emails again.

My grandmother was Helen Walker (name from second husband), formerly Helen Dennison (name from 1st husband)and Helen Delarue (maiden name). Jule Newby was my great aunt. Jack Dennison, my uncle (Helen's son from first marriage) is still living. Would love more perspective on the Delarue family as I am heading to Ireland in 2012.

I wonder if he is not theirs by birth but rather by adoption. Other children at this time include Georgiana (1852), Amanda Maria(1854), and Mary E.(1856) Also, William H is listed as having an 1827 birth year, the same for 1880 census.
Strange, I just today was notified about the replies....message board is slow....

Let's see...

I have a George B. Dennison of Interlaken, father of Charles, Sylvester and Alfred. Alfred died at ~ 9yo falling out of a tree. Charles and Sylevester lived in Covert Township. They married the Mount sisters from NJ

George B.'s father we have as Beckwith Dennison of Connecticut who married Desire Wixon of Frederickstown, Dutchess, NY

Beckwith son of John Denison of Saybrook, Middlesex, Conn. married Lydia Pratt of the same...

John son of Christopher Denison of same, married Elizabeth Kelsey of Killingworth, Middlesex Conn.

Christopher son of Samuel Denison of Stonington, Conn. married Mary Lay of same...

Samuel son of George Denison Jr of same, married Mercy Gorham of unknown, dau of Capt. John Gorham born Benefield, Northamptonshire, England who was husband to Desire Howland, descendent of Howland's of Plymouth Colony.

George Jr son of Capt. George Denison Sr of Hartford, Conn. born in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, England married 10 Bridgett Thompson of Preston Capes, Northants, England, 2) Ann Borodell of Mystic Conn.

George Sr son of William Denison of Roxbury, Mass. born in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, England married widow Margaret Chandler Monck

William son of John Denison of Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, England married Agnes unknown

William son of George Denison of Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, England

That's as far as I've gotten...and only now in posting that do I realize the switch to one "n"!

Hmmmm.

Away, It would be great to somehow tie the two families together with roots in Ireland and roots in England also...

I also, see now that the people of Stonington, Conn. were some of the founders in that area...IIRC

Interesting! George must be a Dennison family name...there's 4 of them up our lines...

Our Interlaken George was George B. married to Susan King

They used the two "n"'s also...for some reason one of the "n"'s got dropped by his grandchildren down our line...his children were buried in Interlaken using the two "n"'s.

If you's like to see if our two branches tie together that would be great...Dennisons have quite the history once we get back across the pond it seems...

These are our lines with George B.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/M4DN-VK5/p_242767783

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/M4YP-YN8/p_283037274

Charley and Sylvester married the Mount sisters whose family I'm trying to tie into exisiting lines in New Jersey...

Perhaps our lines tie in together at some point?

William Dennison of Philadelphia

I am searching for info on the family of William Dennison of Philadelphia. According to the census William was born about July 1861 in Ireland. He supposedly emigrated to the US either in 1878 or 1875 depending on which census you are looking at. I have found him in the Philadelphia census in 1900, 1920 and 1920. He was married to Leticia Harper about 1882 in PA. I especially need info on where in Ireland he was born and the names of his parents. Any help would be appreciated.

I shall take a look as soon as I get a chance.
For the middle name-I have not seen it in print but I believe his gm has the C and census records as I recall also have it. Although he died in early 1900's (Find-a-grave in Greensboro Cemetery in Caroline County, MD) his daughter Fannie lived until 1957; she had Thanksgiving dinner w/her son Wm D and my Dad Wm W. Craig in 1948. My Dad knew her well and her dtr Essyl lived until the late 1900's. I feel quite comfortable w/what his middle name is but have not found anything to verify the spelling of it yet. I hope to visit the courthouse in Caroline county in the next couple months to see if I can find any records which will include it.
Meantime I appreciate the info. I am hoping for the Culbreth/Callbreath name to help give me a lead as there are so many Dennison's and I have no other clue as to the location in England.
TY, Celi

I am always more than willing to share and help in any way I can.

At this juncture, I only go back to Patrick Aloysius DENNISON, Sr. with a birth date ranging from 1794 (based on the age shown on his death certificate) to 1815 (based on the age listed on the 1880 WV Wood County Census). His date of death was December 3, 1894.
I tried looking for any Calbreath and variations married to a Dennison in my index that covers Northumberland and Co. Durham 1812-1837 but no luck. It was a frequent custom for a child to have his mother's maiden name as a middle name although not always - sometimes it might be a grandparent's last name. I found about 10 people married in that time period with the last name Callbreath or variant. Dennison/Denison/Denniston--you will find everywhere. I have limited Methodist or Baptist records from the area. I can tell you William was NOT baptised in North Shields Baptist Chapel or Middle Street Mission in Tynemouth (Wesleyan Methodist). Most of my records are C of E. But he could be that also. Unfortunately my records are indexed per parish and not the whole county in general and I have quite a stack of them. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

Janis

Family stories are frequently just that: stories. Suggest you try to find ship or immigration records which will, fingers crossed, provide where he lived in England.

Good luck!

Familysearch shows several possible "William DENNISON" baptised in England around 1824.

Can you get the name of his parents from his death certificate or marriage certificate?

Have you any evidence that he had a middle name?

Bryan

I have a William Culbreth Dennison (sp variation?) b 1824, England.
The story of his immigration starts with him "running away" from home and stowed away on a ship. He then spent some years -duration unknown- before leaving the ship. He is in the Cattaraugus County NY census of 1850, the 2nd family (only himself) from the lady he married - Jane Nelson. From NY he went to Caroline County, where he lived the rest of his life.
I am guessing the middle name - Culbreth/Callbreath is a family surname. Is this any help to anyone. I have no idea of which part of England he came from. I do have a pic.

A bit of both; I saw Callbreath as being in this area and it seems to be a quite rate name -at least in England. Family history and all his census list confirm him as born in England. My reason for posting Northumberland was seeing the Callbreaths in this location. They attended Methodist Episcopal church in Caroline County, Md, though this could also have been his wife's pref vs limited churches in the location they lived. Their dtr attended Baptist Church in De.
TY for your query - Celi

I have a Wm Culbreth Dennison born 1824, England (no known location), d. Maryland 1908. He is reported (so the story goes) to have run away from home, stowed away on a ship, when he was discovered, became a cabin boy on the ship and finally left the ship in New York showing up on the 1850 US Fed census in Cattaraugus County, NY on the same page as the lady he afterward married.
I am seeking any information which may tie him to Callbreath/Culbreth and Dennison families.
I do have a pic.

Yes...you would think so,but deeper diging was what I was pertaining to....I have been working my Dennison's for over twenty yrs and finding the connection to other Dennisons has been a trifle bit difficult as if you may have noticed it is easier for others to take from other family tree info and except that as theirs and how at the same time it starts adding more questions to others research, reseach can be very expensive and time comsuming enough, correct???,just something to think about.......................

Iwould love to help open up an investigation with the Dennison's on the list,it seems we are all trying to connect the Dennison lines,I am a Dennison we had a very large family,We recently received information from a distant cousin (avery inteligent person and an avid researcher)that went to Ireland to do his research, and he is believing that there is a strong possibility that the Virginia Dennison/Denniston and so on are all related,.
Instead of pulling in different directions (and here we are Dennison's )lets work together,no matter what goes on ,on the message boards ,let work together so we who are dedicated can set this Dennison Mystery straight,
I am willing to donate my time and information ,I hope there are other true blooded Dennison's that feel the same.
Respectfully,
Lynn

Could these Dennison's be connected with your line and hopefully help you out?
Maria Dennison was a sponsor at the baptism of Mary Langley on 23 May 1844 (dau. of Thomas Langley). Edward (Edmond) Malley was the other sponsor.

Bridget Dennison was a witness to the marriage of Maria Dennison and William Murphy 2 Oct 1860, along with Patrick Birmingham.

Bridget Dennison and Richard Canavan were witnesses to the marriage of Margaret "Maggie" Murphy in 1864.

All of these are from Balla, County Mayo, Ireland.

My ancestor Catherine Langley, married Patrick Dennison, led me to find these records. I have the specific voulmes and page numbers too.

All the best,
