I just posted to Jonson Denny posting. I've been searching this dang Deney family of mine and have recollected a photo that my grandfather had of Hugh Deney...He was either my John Deney's brother or Uncle. I can still see his face in my mind., and I'm constantly on the lookout for him. But Grandpa Lee said they were in merchandising & Lumber (he had a photo of the Lumber building with Scholarie/Scoharie NY written on the back in pencil - with the name DENEY printed either on the side or rooftop - you could see tree trunks & dirt roads spidering out in all directions from the building looking down from a hill)and he said the Deneys were of Dutch/French ancestry - females lines were Scot'(Lindsey & McNitt).

This is really late, but when I did some film research for Jefferson County NY around the Ellisburg area, There is a Adam Denny (burial) mentioned with wife and child if my memory serves me right. I'm at work, but I could double check my hard copys later(hand written from original film source) and could post info on Adam Denny. I've been speculating on him off and on as the grandfather or grt grandfather of my John Deney/Deny/Dana born either 1815/1816 there in Ellisburg area.

This may be of assistance in researching/locating the Denny family of Schoharie County, NY. Sources not written down but I think a google search could identify them again. Not familiar with Cree Indian ancestry or location so no idea if this helps prove the case, or hurts is.

What I have:
Darius Denny, son of Richard Denny & Mary (Roe?), b. 1800 Albany Co, NY. Appears to have brothers Richard and Ambrose (1795) who also end up in Schoharie Co, NY.

My line run from an Aurilla Denny, b. 1817 in Schoharie Co, but have not been able to identify which of the Denny brothers she belongs to.

Census shows Richard in Dutchess Co in 1790, Albany Co in 1800, Delaware Co in 1810 and Schoharie Co in 1820.

Darius married Elizabeth (1801), b. Rensselaer Co.
Relocated to Jefferson, Schoharie, NY
Children:
Ambrose - b 1820 (Married Jane, lived in Schoharie Co)
Buried in Dugway Cemetery, Summit, NY.
Ann - b 1821-1825 - no other data
Horace - b. 1826 (lived in Schoharie Co)
Chester - b. 1828 (lived in Schoharie Co)
Joseph - b. 1831 - no other data
Alonzo - b. 1837 (lived in Schoharie, NY)
Buried in Worcester, NY
Alvin - b. 1839 (lived in Brandt, PA)
Darius - b. 1843 (killed in railroad accident)

Hope this helps.

Jim, I know the chances of this finding you are slim after so many years have passed, but I'm taking a shot. I also have the Frederick Denny connection on my family tree. I can't be of any additional help because I have exactly the same information you listed. I seem to be descended from Walter and Margery through their daughter Sarah who married John Evans. I'd love to know if you made any progress over the last twelve years.

Kyle Dane

Hi, My name is Donna Denny Angelo and you have referenced my grandparents Archie and Hallie. Most of your information is correct, but Archie and Hallie had three children and my dad was one of them. I know all of my cousins and cannot remember anyone of them with the name of Barb. I have almost no information on Papa Jack and Mariah, which is the only wife I know of. He did have a sister Saddie and several other siblings. We would visit them in Cookville when I was a kid. Would love to hear from you.

I believe you are on the right track. I can't believe that there would be that many Robert Dennys married to that many Elizabeth Davis' at that same time period.

Basically what I have is Robert and Elizabeth Denny (m. 16Sep1816) were most likely living in Posey Co. IN in 1826. They had a son named Davis (this adds to my belief that they are the ones you are researching). If you agree, I have more information on them, but very little on the Davis side of the family. I'm willing to share if you are interested.

Hi and thank you for your reply to that old posting. I am Bill Pickett at cathyquilt@earthlink.net (my wife and I use the same email addrerss). If your grandfather Leland Denny, Jr. was born in 1935 in Scotia, N.Y. (and died in 2008 in Frederick, MD), he would be my cousin. Based on your email name (babe88_md) that seems likely. His parents would then be Leland Sr. and Mildred Evelyn Pickett (b. 18 Dec. 1912; d. 1948). Mildred Pickett was my father’s sister. The parents of my father (William Sr.; b. 1910; d. 1966) and Mildred Pickett were John Patrick Pickett and Pauline Pankanie. John Patrick Pickett was b. in the US in 1870 and his parents were John and Eliza who came to the US from Ireland about 1862. I have some information on Pauline (b. 1882, Germany[?]; d. 1943) and a little more John Patrick (d. 1934).

If we are cousins and you would like, I would enjoy exchanging information. A great hope of mine is to find copies of any picture(s) of these ancestors. Again, if you or anyone in the Denny family who has taken up an interest in geneaology would like to extend this dialog, please contact me. Sincerely, Bill Pickett (Jr.).
I do have information on your John William Denny.

He was the son of William Henry Denny and Rebecca Bell. William was the son of my ancestors, William Denny and Sarah Bailey. William was the son of Henry Denny, about whom another descendant wrote a book (including pondering his origins). _Descendants of Henry Denny, Sergeant Bergen County Militia, New Jersey State Troops (1758-1839_) by Helen Woodman. The 2007 edition is much better sourced than the earlier one.

I'm happy to check my records if you have questions; I have much of the info in my database. My best email is on gmail username jannetjeb.

Janet
No, I do not think so. My great-grandfather, John W. Denny, was born in New York or Brooklyn, NY, in 1840, and after the Civil War lived a short time in South Carolina before relocating to Newark, NJ where he lived the rest of his life, he died in 1930. His wife, Mary Baxter MIlne Denny, 1839-1936, was born in Boston, lived in Brooklyn, NY where she met and married John W. Denny.

I forgot to mention in my previous post that I found John W. Denny's Civil War Diary this year, along with other Denny and Milne historical documents, handed down to me from my Uncle Milne Denny and my brother Bruce. I have transcribed the diary and would like to share it with other relatives of John and Mary Denny.

Martha Ann Denny

I have an Ancestor, Martha Ann Denny who married a Hastings (he left her and took 2 children to California and married his first cousin) Matha Ann was left either pregnant or with infant, Minerva Hastings, and then Martha married my gg grandfather, Aaron Davis of Carroll County Arkansas (Aaron had lost his wife, Nancy).
I cannot find Martha Ann's parents (Denny lineage).
Martha Ann was born in 1830, TN and died in 1893 Carroll County, Ark. I have searched all the Denny/Denney lines and no matches. I have searched the Dawes and Guion rolls.
There may be a complication to this and that is: She very well could be an ancestor that "hid out" from the Trail of tears, changing her native name to a white name. I have not been able to find that female relative that is touted to be part Cherokee and part Scottish decent.
Would appreciate any help with this.
Martha Ann and Aaron Davis had the following children:
Iredell born 1853 ARK
Aaron (unknown BD)
Arena Ann born 1867 ARK
Jefferson (unknown BD)
Louisa E. born 1860 Ark
thanks so much for any information you may have.
JOanne

John D. Denny is my gg grandfather too. My ggrandpa was William Denny (1893-1933) He died when my grandma Helen (later Farlow) was just 10 years old, which left his wife Marie with 4 young children during the Great Depression. I was curious to research the Dennys since my Grandma didn't really have much info. on them since her dad died so young. I know John D. Denny's Dad was Ambrose Denny and his mom was Lucinda Carter - both from Kentucky. I'm having trouble finding who Ambrose's dad is. If anyone has information to trace the line back farther, I would really appreciate it! I'm very interested in the Denny bible records that the person who replied to this post has! That may answer lots of my questions! Thanks!

Ana Farlow Wasan

Aunt Stella just passed this year on Mothers Day, almost 101 years old. If you are still around, or any one that is interested, please respond.
Martin/Martinus Denny Schoharie NY - Birth of son in 1816

While going through all my hard copies of paperwork I found all by itself this information; I made the notation that "DENEY" was the way it was listed and not "Denny". My first thought was the NA Oneida lineage that Caroline Andler has. So PLEASE anyone who has info on this particular family of Martin & Annatje I would appreciate so much. Thanks

Children of LEWIS DENNY and MARIA are:

iv. MARTHYNES DENNY, b. October 28, 1769, Schoharie, Montgomery Co., New York.

ix. MARTINUS DENNY, b. September 12, 1777, Schoharie, Montgomery Co., New York; m. HANNAH; d. March 29, 1837, Oneida Castle, Oneida Co., NY.

I found through one of the NY Dutch Church records this

Martin/Martinus Deney (m) Annjte (Anna?) Birth of son ----Deney b Aug/Sep 1816 Baptised age 14 mos

This particular date is the Month and year my John Deney was born. Is this my John Deney's parents ?? Is this my proof ??

This would maybe tie me into the Oneida Native American lines if this is one of the Martin Dennys' that have been researched & online at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/a/n/d/Caroline-K-...

Is Caroline Andler still around ??
