Re: Denyers of Sussex - Books, trees, etc.

Ron Denyer published his books for Sussex (2 vol.), Hampshire (1 vol.), Surrey (1 vol.) and I also believe, Kent (1 vol.), back in 1994-6. I am listed in the Sussex one, but I have seen them all and know someone close by who has them. A complete set is in the Society of Genealogist's, London.

I have not heard from him in some years, but he didn't have any copies for sale (out of print). He sent me the updated pages concerning my family's entries and I have a large database. With William being a very common Denyer name, I would need more details to identify to right group.

I am descended from William DAYNER of Rustington, Sussex (died 1776).

This is connected to my work email, so no junk or distribution lists, please.

My mother is John Henry's granddaughter, Winifred. Her mother was also Winifred. I have just begun this research because Mom will be 85 next week and she has always wanted to find out what happened to her beloved GF. She was told he disappeared and always looked for him when she went into crowds....so glad he was ok and living elsewhere....would love to know why her family was so close-mouthed. Would love to know more info.

Explanations of the name vary: as mentioned above from swineherd to French (Denier) meaning a moneylender as in the Latin coin denarius. Possibly more plausibly 'a valley dweller' after dean or dene, which is an Old English word for valley.

The Denyer heartland is very much concentrated in Sussex, in the area around Midhurst.

Hi Don Are you the son of Grace and Bill Denyer that lived in Winnipeg? I remember that they had a son Bill and that their son Don had been named after my father Don. There were also some more children but I can't remember all the names. Would like any info I can get as the only one I had was my grandmother Elsie May, Charles(Denyer)

Sus Newell (May)

Jackson Denyer

In refining my search, which has been exhausting, I have found out that my great-grandfather's name was Jackson Denyer, born in 1863 in England, but came to the US in 1865. He married Gertrude Miller. They lived in Pennsylvania. If anyone has anymore information, I would be so appreciative. Lucinda (Denyer) Lively

John Henry Denyer

I'm Lucinda Denyer. My father was John Henry Denyer, named after his grandfather. Great-grandmother's name was Gertrude Miller. They were born in St. Paul, Bedfordshire, England. My grandfather was Harold Denyer, but people called him Peck. Peck was married to Bernice Taylor, whom I have no information on. My great-great-grandfather was Thomas Denyer who was married to Mary Thompson, from Leatherhead, Surrey. Dates get very skimpy the further back I go. I made the mistake of not getting information of my family when my dad passed away in 2004. Also, there is a possibility that Dad fathered a son when stationed in England in the late 1940's or early 1950's. The mother's last name was Hewitt.

Born c1792 Elizabeth Hannah DENYER married on the 5th April 1820 to Benjamin HEATER (surname aka HAYTER*HAYTOR) at Sutton WSX.

1841 census shows the family at Graffham WSX, where all the children were bapt. Ages as per census.

James 15, John 15, Henry 14, Michael 12, David 9, Jessie 7 and Mary 5. There were a couple of more children born after 1841. Know there was another son Richard.

David bapt 13th January 1833 is my husband's great-grandfather. Married in Brighton to Ann YARWOOD b. 1842 Easton on the Hill Nth. (birth registered at Stamford Lincs).

Richard married Louisa OAKLEY and they had a large family, many of whom still reside in the general W. Sussex area.

Possibly other brothers also went to Brighton. David died in 1865 and I think at least two of his brothers (James and Harry?) may have died within about 3 years of David, both in Brighton.

Anyone connect?

Toni ~ Ontario

Hi,

I'd like to delve deeper into my mother's roots...

She was Nancy Mary Denyer, with a brother named Ray.

Her mum was Dorothy Timlick, father was Albert Denyer.

They lived in Bognor Regis, Sussex.

No birth dates for my grandparents yet, still waiting to contact my relatives in England.

Cheers,

Dan Bertrand

Descendents of William Denyer and Elizabeth Sliver

I have entered pages 326-333 from Fretz Family History, published in 1890, pertaining to the descendents of William Denyer (born in Hampshire, England, 1794) and Elizabeth Sliver (born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, 1798). They can be read here:

http://www.transylvaniandutch.com/denyerfretz.html

If anyone has any information on William Denyer's ancestors, or descendants of any siblings, I'd be interested, but I wanted to share this information.

William Henry DENYER m. DYER in 1878 in Littlehampton...

Anyone recognize William and Eva Janet (DYER) Denyer from Littlehampton (Sussex) England in your tree. I know for sure they had one child, William Victor in 1904 and some have suggested 2 other children. I am also unable to find ancestors of William's.

Denyer - Texas - 19th century - Ebenezer, Sarah Ann, Margaret Jane

I'm seeking more information on my Denyer line.

Here's what I know:
Ebenezer Denyer married Sarah Ann Hartley (or Heartley) in 1854 in Gonzales Texas. He was also a Confederate soldier. Their daughter was Margaret Jane Denyer, who married Melvin Van Every in 1883 in Hays, Texas.

I am grandson of a daughter of Melvin and Margaret, and have a lot of information on the Van Every line, but know nothing else about the Denyers.
