Is anyone researching the family of Robert Derby, who married Susannah Holden in Bury, Lancashire, England, in
1857?

They had a son, Abraham, born in 1860 in Bury. They came to the US in 1867 and settled in Pennsylvania, where their son, Robert, was born.

Abraham married Lillian (surname unknown) and had at least two children: Lillian and Marian.

Robert married Carrie Shoenberger (no apparent issue) and lived in Georgia, Kansas and Missouri.

Robert (father and son) and Abraham were machinists.

Lee Bridge Cognetta

Does anyone have information on a connection between Derby and DeRemer (my family's surname)? I've done fairly extensive research on the DeRemer side, but I found a photo of a little girl named Louise (or Louisa, not sure) Derby in my family's old photos...it looks like it's from the late 1800's or early 1900's.

Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!

Nelson J. Derby, b.1844; wife Martha Trussell, b.1846; lived Wapello Co., IA

I have an original 8”x10” photograph of “Grandpa & Grandma Derby” with 12 adults and about 18 children, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in about 1915, and gives surnames besides Derby, of Townsend, Buchanan and Hunter. Children of Nelson & Martha Derby were William Arthur (wife Lizzie); Martha Jane (husband Harry Townsend); Harry (wife Laura); Minnie (husband Marion Hunter); Lillie (husband John Buchanan); and Charles (wife Isal), and all are identified on the photo. The family members are sitting and standing on a home’s porch.

I found the family of Nelson J. Derby and family in the Wapello Co., IA censuses, and also on Ancestry’s OneWorldTree, which lists dates of birth of Nelson, Martha and the six children. Nelson was born Jan 1844; Martha, Apr 1846; William Arthur, Aug 1866; Harry Franklin, Jul 1870; Minnie Florence, Dec 1875; Martha Jane, Sep 1880; Lillie Ethel, Sep 1885; and Charles Andrew, Feb 1899.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to this Derby family.

Derby DNA Testing

I run the Derby/Darby (any spellings) DNA Project and am trying to break through my brick wall for Charles Rufus Derby who m. Hannah Bowers. Charles was born before 1800 and lived in Bridport, Addison Co, VT and later in Jersey Co, IL. He died in MO. By DNA testing, I'm hoping to find other lines of Derby who are connected by blood and thus narrow the search field. For this reason, I'm urging anyone who has a male with the Derby surname to consider testing. If we can determine who among us is related by blood and who isn't then the good guesses as to where to look for our ancestors could be narrowed. One does need to do their genealogy, however....DNA testing does not replace good genealogy, but proves or disproves that paper trail.

Email me directly for more information.
Thank you,
Emily
aulicino@hevanet.com

I am wondering if anyone would know if my G-G grandfather Roger Derby/Darby is related to George Judson Sr. They all were born in England. George Judson Sr. came to America in 1836. Roger and his brother Thomas came across July 31, 1850 on the ship called Waterloo. George took Roger and Thomas in for a while in Stockbridge, Michigan because Roger broke his leg while working in Parma Michigan at the pumping station. On Roger death certificate it lists his mother as being Mary Judson. I am wondering if she is George sister or some sorts of relation. If anyone could help me out. I really appreciate it.

God's Blessings
Betty
I have a few pictures of Christine when she was a baby (named after my mother).

If you find this, you have cousins looking for you.

I found this is the Family Data collection and have a feeling these people could be related. I could also help me to find proof of Sylvester's father. Roasamond Durfey was born Jun 1835 in NY. I have my oldest know relative Sylvester Derby born in 1780 in Dorset Vt and found a possible father Phineas Derby born abt 1746 in Stonington, New London, Connecticut from familysearch. In the Family Data Collection it has a Phineas Ashley Durfey and Lucina Cole as parents of Rasamond Durfey. The funny thing is that my Sylvester married a Rosamond Richard son so I'm wondering if this Phineas is a possible son of Sylvester and named his child after his mother Rosamond. If not Sylvester's then someone close to his line and related.

I'm trying to find any information related to a Sylvester Derby born 1780 in Dorset, Bennington County, Vermont m. to Rosamond Richardson b 17 Sep 1778. And a Phineas Derby born 1746 Stonington, New London, Connecticut m. Sarah Stephens b. 27 Apr 1750
Stonington, New London, Connecticut, USA. I found Phineas Derby listed from FamilySearch as the father of Sylvester under a familytree post but nothing else to go on and no real proof. Any help would be great.

Derby DNA Testing

I wish to announce a Derby DNA Project to help all of us get past our brick walls and to see who is and who isn't related so we can work together or ignore those lines who do not connect for the sake of time and money.

I desc. from Charles Rufus Derby of Addison Co, VT (m. Hannah Bowers) and we just found a person who is testing. There were other lines in the county that we can't connect via any paper trail. DNA testing will tell us if there is a common ancestor of these groups or not. As a result I would love to find a male descendant of any of the following families or any Derby connected to them: Apollos, Dexter, Lemuel, or Dudley Derby.

If you have questions or are just curious about DNA testing, please email me privately. I run several DNA Projects for my family names and teach the public about how testing helps genealogy is is the most accurate tool we have. Just email me at: aulicino@hevanet.com

Thank you,
Emily

OBIT: Matilda Ennest-Derby

MRS. MATILDA DERBY PASSES
---------------
Mrs. Matilda Derby, wife of the late Amasa Derby, passed away at her home on the Ridge road on Monday morning, Sept. 28, 1925, aged nearly seventy-five years. She had been ill a long time and her death was not unexpected. Mrs. Derby was born in Beachville, Ont., but came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Ennest, to Michigan in early life. She was married to Amasa Derby Dec. 21, 1872, and lived on the farm on the Ridge road all her married life. Mr. Derby died in 1916 and since that time her youngest son, Edward, and wife have lived with her, and tenderly cared for her throughout her illness. She leaves to mourn five children, Lewis and John, of near Croswell, Frank of the Ridge road, Mrs. Sam Henderson of near Applegate and Edward at home. Also one adopted daughter, Mrs. John Benedict, of near Croswell. Mrs. Ethan Ennest of Applegate is a sister, and is the only remaining one of their facily. Mrs. Derby also had six grand children and many other relatives and friends. She loved her children and grand children and lived for them, and they will sadly miss her, also her devotion to them and their interest. The funeral was held on Wendesday at two o'clock from her late home and burial was made in the Croswell cemetery, and her body laid to rest beside her husband. Rev. C.W. Hubbard conducted the funeral services. ----- Jeffersonian, October 2, 1925

Martha Coffin Derby, Richard C. Derby, Elias Hasket Derby Descendants

I am working on a scholarly biography of Martha Coffin Derby (1783-1832) of Boston, daughter of Nathaniel Coffin and Eleanor Foster of Portland (Falmouth) Maine. She married in 1800 Richard Crowninshield Derby, youngest son of Elias Hasket Derby (d. 1799) of Salem. They had no children. The Derbys traveled extensively and visited Loyalist English relatives in Devon and Gloucestershire-- the Coulsons. Richard married Louisa Sophia Bomford Lear after Martha's death. They had one son, Richard Catton Derby (1848-1923). He married Mary Byrd Tucker and had one son, Richard. -- and there the trail peters out... Martha's sister, Eleanor, married John Derby. There are other links between the Coffin and Derby families. At any rate, I am trying to locate family papers, correspondence, artifacts, etc. relating to Martha and Richard and their circle that may still be in the family. I am grateful for any tips or leads. Many thanks and gratitude to all the family members who have labored to document the Derby family.

Betsy Derby Daley, VT or MA, abt 1819

I am searching for information on Betsy Derby
Daley who was born 19 Aug 1819 in Ludlow,
Windsor County, VT, the daughter of Amos Daley and
Polly (?). She married Lorenzo Smith 2 Jun 1840 in
Ashburnham, MA. Amos and Polly were both born in
Fitchburg, MA. According to the 1850 MA
census she was listed as being 33 years old
which would mean that her year of birth could
have been 1817 instead of 1819. Furthermore,
in many documents she is listed as Betsy Derby.
Either she was Amos Daley's step-daughter or
she had been married to someone named Derby
prior to her marriage to Loreanzo Smith.I have
not been able to find any proof of Betsy's
birth nor any further information about her
or her family. Any information would be
greatly appreciated.

Dick Smith

William Parker DERBY son of William Derby and Pearl Denman was born 14 July 1919 in Norwalk, Ohio and died 29 July 1968 in Glendora, California. I'm looking for any information on any possible marriages or children. I believe that he was married to Shirley Eleanor Bilton in Norwalk and had at least one child, a Diane Ruth Derby born 10 April 1938 in Norwalk. There must still be relatives in or around Norwalk and possibly in the Los Angeles areas. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Patrick DERBY of Whitehaven, Cumberland, 1760s.

I am seeking ANY information about Patrick DERBY, who was either a potter or a miner at Whitehaven during the second half of the 18th century. He was "of Beckside, Nr. Whitehaven" in 1764; "of Newtown" in the Ginns District in 1766; and "of Gins" in 1769. He had four known children: John (christened 1764 at St. Bees); Ann (christened 1766 at St. Bees and married Luke HARDY in 1786 at St. Bees); Philip, who married Jan PURDY on the same date and place that his sister, Ann, married Luke HARDY); and Sarah (christened 1769 at St. Bees).

Can anyone tell me ANYTHING about Patrick DERBY? When and where was he born? Who were his parents? When and to whom was he married? When and where did he die? I know absolutely nothing about him other than what I typed above.

Richard Welch
Farmington, New Mexico
I found several newspaper clippings in my grandmother's photo album after she died. One of those was of the attached Blanche Derby.

My grandmother was Susie (Dobbs) Creameans, and as far as I know, we were not related to the aforementioned Derby. I don't know why this clipping was in her photo album.

I have no further info.

Jared Derby, British Columbia, Canada

I am preparing a history of our community and have discovered that a Jared Derby purchased property on Okanagan Lake, between Vernon and Kelowna, in 1896. I also have a Jared Derby in Vital Stats who died in Vernon in 1934 aged 77. I cannot find any other info on the man.
Does the name ring a bell with anyone?

I am researching my wife's family. She was born in Knoxville Tn, and her mother was a Yoder, Daughter of a Colonel(Kernol) Lewis Yoder. I have found a Colonel Yoder who married an Elizabeth Houser in 1899 in Knoxville. This may have been his first wife. He later marries a Sarah(Sadie) Derby sometime around 1905. I know she had a sister named Alice and a brother named William, but have been unable to find any reference to this Derby family anywhere in any records.

Does anyone know about this Derby/Yoder connection?

Richard Wright

I am looking for any information on a John Derby from Phoebus, Virginia. He would have most likely been born in the late 1800's or very early 1900's.

Somehow he ended up in St. Charles or St. Louis, Missouri and fathered a son in 1920. He did not marry or stay with the mother of his child. The mother lived in St. Charles, MO. Family rumor is that he was a teamster.

I have a 1920 census card that could be him saying he was 26 years old living in St. Louis, but I don't know for sure if it's him. I couldn't find him in the actual census.

Any leads would be appreciated!
Jennifer

I am looking for information on the Derby family. Richard Derby lived in Michigan in 1845, married Mary Jane Cummings in 1854 in Fairfield, Lenawee, MI, moved to Clay County, IL where he died on 5 May 1865. He had one son, Alvin Derby, born in 1860. Alvin married Louise Carter from Arkansas and had three children: Harry Derby, George A. Derby and Stephan Henry Derby.
