There will be funeral services at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman, Ohio; followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Youngstown, Ohio for Louis A. Caldrone, 91, who passed away early Tuesday morning, Nov. 3, 2009.

Louis was born Feb. 25, 1918 in Teivento, Italy, the son of James and Carmel (Desiderio) Caldrone.

He was employed with the city of Youngstown, Ohio for 27 years, retiring in April of 1981. Louis honorably served his country as a Surgical Technician in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the church, VFW Post No. 8841 and ITAM Post No. 3, Captain Chas. Marino.

GiGi will always be remembered by his wife, the former Dorothy Bradt, whom he married Dec. 21, 1970; his daughters, Sheila (Glenn) Spack of Salem, Ohio and Georgia (Bill) Sanor of Oklahoma; his daughter-in-law, Pat Baird of Apollo, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; his two sisters, Philomena Bonace of Boardman, Ohio and Mary O’Neill of Girard, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Ida Caldrone of Youngstown and Grace Caldrone of Cleveland, Ohio; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

The family would also like to thank Anthony Buffano for all the love, care and attention that he bestowed on GiGi.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons, Harry and David Baird; two sisters, Ann Marzano and Lena Aducci; and two brothers, James and Thomas Caldrone.

Friends may call from 4 to 7pm on Friday, Nov. 6 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.

I have made contact with my 1/2 uncle semi-recently and wouldn't mind trading info. This particular Ralph is my mom's 1/2 brother and he is a JR. and was raised in NY(I believe) What does your dad know about his cousin that might help narrow the search for the right Ralph?

I have a 1/2 uncle named Ralph Desiderio- I know he was in the military and is now about 65 yrs old. Not sure if it's the right Ralph or not but thought I would try and help you out.

I just went to the NY Muncipal Archives - they have death certificates for folks up until 1948.

On my great-grandfather's death certificate his mother's maiden is listed as Lucia Desiderio.

Perhaps, there is a connection. This is all I know.

Looking for the family of Raffaele Desiderio.
Wife is listed as Rosa.
They arrived through Ellis Island 12/06/1900. They are listed on the manifest as having been in US 1888-1892.

They travelled with their 15 year old neice Christina Rossomaguo (my husbands great grandmother).

They were headed to the home of their brother in law (can't make out first name Ann? Baslotta.

Christina married Alfonso Molli son of Roufalle Molli and Guiseppa Botti.

I'm researching Desiderios that came to the US from 1910-1913. The family I'm tracing came from the town of Scafati and settled in Branford, CT. I've found some other lines from Scafati (on ellisisland.org) that went to other states, though, PA may have been one of them. I was just wondering if you had found anything else out about your line.
My line changed their name to Desi and Dondero as well as staying Desiderio

Thanks for your reply.

I'm really not sure if the surname that I'm looking for is actually "DESIDERIO".
I have an original immigration document that shows the name as "DISEN". We know that this was the shortened version after arrival in the USA, so I compiled a list of possible surnames and soundex names to start searching. And the year of immigration is 1884. So it doesn't sound like it's the same family.

As far as finding any more info on this line- I haven't.
There was very little documentation left by this side of my family.

Searching for information on the surname DESIN which we think may have been shortened from DESIDERIO.

Immigrated to USA:
Charles (Carlo) 1884 (b: 1860 in Italy- d:1932 in PA,USA)
Joseph (Giuseppe) 1891-1892? (b:1868 in Italy - d:1939 in PA,USA)

Charles listed his surname as DISEN on his declaration of intention, but later changed the spelling to DESIN.

If anyone could be of any help at all, it would be greatly appreciated!

My name is Alison Desiderio, I have a half sister named Claudia (Ann?)Brooks and a half brother named Fred. I remember that Claudia was going to become a nurse. I do not have any history on Fred. I am the half sister of Alison and John E. Desiderio of (last known in)Brooklyn, New York, 1964. Alison would be somewhere in her late 40's and have a different last name by now and John E. (Edward?) should be in his early 40's and still be listed with same name. I have gone into several databases and have too many John Desiderios to contact. I hope this will narrow my search. My brother Fred Brooks and I live in Tucson, Arizona and we would like to know the whereabouts of our half brother and sister. Hi Marcello. I dont know how much this would help you but I myself was just curious while I was looking over this site. I found alot of Desiderios all around hte US and I know that in Italy as well there are Desiderios everywhere. Personally my father is from Capri, Italy..the island and Desiderio is a very known name. I just wanted to reply and let u know that. Bye:)

Can you tell me if the last name Desiderio in your family has been shortened from Desiderioscioli. My mother's maiden name was that. She has told me that some people have shortened it it either Desiderio or some have chosen Scioli.

I am interested in tracing my mother's family to her home town in Palata, Italy. It is in the Province of Campobasso. They came to America in the early 1900's with their children Nicholas, Letizia, and Elvira. They had two other children one Jean (may have been born in US) and another Rose (deceased around age 1 or 2 from influenza). I would like to locate the family because I plan to visit there and would like to go to their home town. I understand Luigi and Maria were very distant cousins bearing the same last name.
