Can anyone help me, my great great grandmother Louisa Devon appears in the 1861 census as head of the household with 7 children all bearing the surname Brasher and living in West Rainton Durham.However by 1871 she is still living in the same place and the 3 children still at home have now changed their surname to Devon although the head of the household is shown as James Brasher, which I think is her son, but why is he called Brasher and the rest Devon
