Diederichs from Mecklenburg-Schwerin

I am hoping that someone out there can help me. I know that my great-great grandfather, Johann Frederick Diederichs, came from the Mecklenburg-Schwerin area of Germany. I have found the ship record from his immigration to the US in 1882. I know the date of his birth, but that is about all that i have been able to find on him, and cannot trace back any further. I have found no birth or baptism record for him in Mecklenburg, or anywhere in Germany. His death certificate, obit, and anything else i have found on him only list his place of birth as Germany. I have found other Diederichs in the Mecklenburg area, but not him. His death certificate lists his mother as Doris Diederichs, and father unknown. I found online a record of a Dorothea Diederichs coming from Germany in 1884, and it links her to Johann, but i don't understand why the records are linked. There is nothing in either record mentioning the other, and i find no records anywhere here in the US for Dorothea. I am hoping someone out there can make a suggestion for where i can go from here. The 1867 census for Mecklenburg has been no help....

Hi , the name Diederichs was derived from Theodoric(h) (Theodorico in Italian) It means leader of people . Theodoric comes from the Germanic tribe the Ostrogoths. He was the king of the Ostrogoths and ruled Italy 3rd century. His grave and palace is in Ravenna, Italy. The gothic people comes from an island in the Baltic sea, namely Gotland. It is today a province of Sweden. Theodorich was born in Pannon, now Hungary , in 454. on 5 March 493 Theodorich entered Ravenna in truimph. The Gothic tribes are desecedants of the Gadites. GAD was one of the 12 Hebrew (Jewish)tribes, sons of Jacob (Israel)

Is there any relation to Johannes Michael Diederich (born 1719)? This is my sixth great-grandfather on my dad's side. Migrated from Germany, lived in Pennsylvania, and his family continued to migrated into Nebraska. Due to social pressures, the family name Diederich was split up into Dieder, and then into Deeter, and Teeter. That leads to me :)

Henry Diederich and Anna M. had a son (maybe others) also named Henry b. 2/10/1862. He married Mathilda J. Kolterman(n) of Pomern b. 12/10/1873. They were married on 7/10/1901 and had 2 sons: Milton C. Diederich (Joanne Tomczak) and Raymond Frederick Paul Diederich (Edith Jahnke and my grandparents). Any info would be appreciated....they settled in Milwaukee, WI.

I also have a Methias Diederich, b. Oct. 1824 in Germany, he was married to Mary Katrina Hoff, Mary was from Trier, Gemany. They came to the US in 1891 and was living in Elwood, IN in 1900, the children I know of are Methias, Peter, John and Catherine. I would like to find out if this family is connected to your Methias.

Do you have any idea of who his parents or grandparents are. I have Diederich relatives that came to Illinois from Germany in 1872. My great great grandfathers name was Michael, and his parents were Michael and Maria.

I am looking for any info on the family of Nicholas and Susanna (Schuh)Diederich. I know a John Peter Diederich was one of several children born to them. Susanna is my great grandmothers sister and I am trying to find any info on these people.
My great grandmother was Eva Schuh and their dad was Bernard Schuh. They both died in Iowa

John Peter was born in Chicago and baptised at St Alphonsus. He later became a priest.

Bernard Schuh was born 24 Feb 1812 and died 28 Aug 1887 in Early Iowa

Eva Schuh Feltes was born 18 Apr 1845 in Grevenich, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany and died 16 Nov 1911 in Odebolt, Sac County, Iowa

her husband
Nicholas Feltes was born 22 Aug 1842 in Trierweiler, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany and died 14 Nov 1910 in Odebolt, Sac County, Iowa

her sister
Suzanna Schuh was born in Grevenich, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany and died in Chicago, Ill

I don't know much on the Diederich except about the John Peter Diederich. That he was born in 1878 and died in 1959.

I have a link to Anna Long. He brother Joseph was my father in laws Great Great Grandfather. His daughter was Effie Long who married Barnard Sybert. Their Child Robert Sybert married Lucretia Wallon. They had several children including twin daughters Lesta Lena and Lena Lesta Sybert. This family is of Indian decent, I believe Cherokee. I am looking for any information about these twins, my father in law is Jesse Cross. Lesta was his mother and she died when he was about 5 years old. His father (her Spouse) was Clarence Cross, who also died when Jesse was a child. We need some information about Lesta Lena Sybert (Cross) and about Clarence Cross. Any info. would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Kevin. I checked your family against my family and we don't seem to have a connection. However, there is a man on this message board who posted on July 4, 2000. His name is Juen Diederich and seems to have a Catherine Schuh who married Lambert Mayer. They had a daughter Margaret who married Mathias Diederich b. 1846 from Trier, Germany. Perhaps your Schuh and Diederich families are connected.

Prussia was the strongest Kindom before German unification in 1870.
Berlin was ists capital and the king of Prussia became the German Emperor.
Prussia stretched across north German from Holland to Russia,
included Silesia (now part of Poland and the Czeck Republic).
Its eastern capital was Königsberg, now Kaliningrad.

The kindom began when the Duke of Brandenberg was name Grand Master of the Teutonic Order and a Polish Duke.
From there it just sort of grew.

Diederich (my middle name) is a Dutch - Platts version of the High German Dietrich.

Hello all you Diederichs!

I have a question that someone out there may be able to answer. I have a Diederich line that came to the US from Germany by way of Prussia. I know I'm young, but where is that now? I have been unable to locate any maps that list that area. Most of my ancestors came from Retterath, Germany, through Illerich, Prussia, to Elyria Ohio. They possibly spent a short amount of time in Conneticut. Anyone have any ideas?

I am a g.grand to a Mathias Diederich. The little history I have, which may be incorrect is: Catherine Schuh married a Lambert Mayer, had 1 girl named Margaret, b. in 1845, Buedeshiem, Germany. She married a Mathias Diederich, b. 1846 from Trier, Germany. They either married in 1873 or moved to Morris, Mn in 1873 this is unclear. They had alot of daughters and only 1 Son, John Mathias Diederich B. 1879, in Morris Mn, who married Lillian Zahler, b. 1881. on Sept. 23rd in 1912. St. Paul. They had 4 children, Margaret, Harold, Regina, Donald. Donald Married Delores Gagnier in 1949. They had 4 children, Roland, Catherine, Juen and Donald.
