Hello Mr. Borrman,
You must have a very rare book. It would be nice if this book were to be printed again. I'm sure many people would wish for a copy. I've learned that many people around the world are interested in the Dietrich family name. It is a mystery for many people. I do not have an idea of whom I would make a request to search for as my trail begins in Germany then to Russia then to the USA. I can't seem to make a connection to an area in Germany yet. But I just wanted to say the small book you have would be so interesting to genealogist professionals as well as we amateurs on Ancestry.com. Some day I hope to have found a connection to Germany (as I've lived there 8 years myself even though I am American). I love your country.
All the best,
Dawn

I am looking for my fraternal great grandfather's parents. His name is Jacob John Dietrich, and was born in Michigan in 1869, but both of his parents were born in Germany, so they must have come to the US some during or before 1869.

Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated.
Dietrich's Missing

There not so much missing, I guess, as cannot be found. With the beginning of a New Year I look to the people I
still cannot get a lead on. There I quite a number, not so much all "not found" as gaps in their stories.

However, The Dietrich,s cannot be found from 1874-1898 then 1898 to the present. They most certainly lived in Hannover at one stage and possibly Berlin for a short time.

I think Hannover, however, would still be top of my list to find Oscar Charles O & Eliza Jane Dietrich, also their children Beatrice Agnes & Clarice Anna.

So at the beginning of 2012, I again post a message for finding these missing family members and keep my fingers crossed.
Warren W Dietrich b 1884 Ohio>Penn

Warren W. Dietrich's picture and info appear in the 1913 yearbook for the Opheleum Men's Club of Pittsburgh, Penn. His nickname was "Jimmie." His birthdate is listed as Nov 22, 1884 in Clarington, Ohio. He is single (in 1913). He was a "pioneer member," probably indicating that he was living in or near Pittsburgh when the Club was founded in 1903. He was educated at Westlake public school; Pittsburgh Academy; University of Pittburgh; post-graduate course Penn State College.
You will need to investigate the proximity of Clarington to your family's Ohio town; and find out where Westlake public school is (was). If he was born in 1884, he could have been a brother to your grandfather.
Dietrich and its variations are common names. I hope that the "W" initial and the "Jimmie" nickname help you.

I read with interest your messages relative to the Detrick family. I have no less than 11 Martin Detricks in my database. Can you please give me more info so that I can determine which of these is your g-g-g-grandfather. The names of Martin's parents would help if you have this info.

You might be interested in the following.

In December 2004 I was able to obtain from the Generallandesarchiv Karlsruhe, Baden, a copy of the Diploma of Nobility that was decorated on Johann Peter Dieterich and his two sons (Felix Ernst and Wilhelm Emanuel) on 15 October 1700. The Diploma was signed by "Hans Jacob Frh. v. vs. Batzendorf." The ceremony took place at Castle Hirschingen which was owned at the time by Baron (Frh. = Baron) Batzendorf.

Contrary to what has been reported on the internet and elsewhere, Johann Peter Dieterich nor his sons owned Castle Hirschingen - it was owned by Baron Batzendorf.

On 24 September 1690 in Vienna, Leopold I granted Baron Batzendorf the power to grant nobility to individuals. This is what Baron Batzendorf did on 15 Oct 1700 for Johann Peter, Felix Ernst and Wilhelm Emanuel. They were "raised to equal status" as that of Batzendorf; meaning, they were granted the title of "Baron."

There is no mention of Johann Peter nor his two sons owning any land. The following additional information can also be found in the Diploma:

(1) Johann Peter Dieterich was born in Homberg [Efze], Hessen, Germany.
(2) Johann Peter & Sophia Ofener had two sons - Felix Ernst & Wilhelm Emanuel.
(3) The parents of Johann Peter were Johann Jost & Anna Marien (nee Stunz).

Contained within the Diploma is a detailed description of the Coat of Arms that was bestowed upon Johann Peter & his two sons.

Lester Dietterick
(les570 at hotmail dot net)

The VON is nobility for being a land owner. Emperor Leopold of Germany gave him land which his two sons inherited and Johan was the one who was given the land. There is a Castle but I would have to look up the name.

Yes I would love to have some information. I do still dig some on the genealogy, just havent had much time lately. I do know that the VON in the name is that Johan was given land by Empereor Leopold from Germany and his two sons. Being given land gave him the VON in his name. There is a Castle attached to this but I will have to look up the name and send it to you. I know it starts with a "H".
You can send me info to aggieatheart911@yahoo.com
Thanks
Robin Detrick Adair

I have been researching this Dietrich/Dieterich family for about nine years and have accumulated a lot of info.

By "Johan," are you referring to the Johannes Dietterich (1738-1809) who was born in Germany and died in Bloomsburg, Northumberland Co. (now Columbia Co.), PA? This Johannes was my 5g-grandfather.

I would be interested in seeing what you have on Johan and other members of this Dietrich/Dieterich family. And, I am always willing to share with others what I have found. Please contact me at les570@hotmail.com.

Dietrich in Upper Mount Bethel, Northampton County PA

My ggg grandfather, William McCormick who died about 1821, married Diana Catherina (Katy) Dietrich around 1795. They lived in Upper Mount Bethel Township in Northampton County PA and had 8-10 sons including Hector, Alexander, William, John, Jacob, George William, Levi, David and possibly Elias and Ebenezer. I would like to know if anyone from Catherine's line---her parents were Johan Jacob Dietrich and Maria Elisabeth Minier and her grandpaents were Elias Dietrich and Anna Elizabeth Stroud/Johan George Minier and Elizabeth Strunk---has any information about William and Catherine. I am most interested in William's death date, burial place and parents, and their marriage date and place but would value any additionial information that is available.

I am a descendant of Lenhart Dietrick of PA. Do you have him in your line? Do you have any PA family photos from the period between 1880 to 1930? Am looking for the Native Americans taken in by the Dietrichs for their protection and survival after the Indian Wars.

Bill,
Please e-mail me at babscookatcomcastdotnet, and I'll try to help you or at least point you in the right direction. Although Elizabeth Keith's and my Dietrich family settled in various Allegheny (Pittsburgh) County towns and suburbs, there still may be some connection to your Dietrich family.
Barbara Hays Cook
Sacramento, CA
