That would be James Harrison Dillard, father, and Elizabeth C.Sullivan mother. Elizabeth was married to a Bullard prior to marrying James. James Radford Dillard was referred to as (J.R.) He was the older brother of my great grandfather, Rasmus Jacob Dillard, referred to as (Jake). How or which Dillard are you connected with?

John Dillard used to be the head of the organization, but not sure he still is. I too am connected to that family, through James Harrison Dillard. Which Dillard are you connected through?
This years Dillard family reunion is being held the weekend of 6 May 2012 at the Dillard house in Georgia. Make reservations early and you may want to contact them about the schedule of activities and events; since it goes on for more than one day. But the main meeting is that Saturday with the speaker talking on the subject of a new tie in between two Dillard lines stemming from way back in Virginia that have now been proven out, I think. This will tie in Georgia lines and a South Carolina lines of the family.

I am not sure if Johnston ever went to ala because he died in Miss. and his wife was not with him she may had stayed in S.C. You are right there were 5 bryants who married into the Dillard family. Gemima, James, Harcanius, Dorcus, and Delilah, Johnston b 1 jan 1785 spatrtanburg s.c. died 5 mar. 1873 union co. miss. married dorcus dillard 1810 she was born 1794 died 1850 in greenville sc. there is a book The Bryants of Spartanburg that has all kinds of info. if you can work it out because of all of the intermarrages and the most of the kids have the same first names.

I am searching for Reuben Richard Dillard b,1819, d 1903, m
Jane Caroline Blassinggame in 1849 in Ark. They moved to Texas in about 1856. The names, Green Berry and Barzila seem to pop up very often in my research. I suspect that Barzila shortened his name to "Z". I've been batting my head on this brick wall for 30 years but can not find who R.R.'s parents where. He was my Ggrandfather. If you can offer any info on this man please e-mail me at fibers@sbcglobal.net.
TIA
Nelda Wagner

Allen Butcher Dillard and his family moved to Texas from Tennessee in 1835. One of them, John Dillard was killed at the Alamo. He signed the Uvalde County Charter. His son, A.B. Dillard (Butch Dillard) was a Texas Ranger for a short period of time and helped blaze the Chisholm Trail as a cowboy. My Grand-Father, Edwin Potter Dillard (aka. Jack Edward Dilord)was a direct decendant which makes me a direct decendant of A.B. Dillard. This is all documented by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) at the Alamo.

Hi thank you for your information. I did get a copy of the marriage license and it has Arthur & a blank space and Dillard written under this. Don't know what happened with the mothers name. On the death certificate for James Dillard his step daughter lists his father as William B. and his mother as Henrietta Stevens. The obit which I am sure is written by the same person states they are from Amherst Co. I have searched for these names in Amherst and Nelson and can't find anything. I will try to find the Gilliam Family Tree and see where that leads me. Thank you.

James Dillard married Bettie A Lockard (Widowed) in Amherst on 16 Feb 1898. Arthur Dillard listed as father of James. I believe Amherst has marriage license for that time but no mother is listed in record on familysearch.org. The 1920 and 1930 Census (Nelson) ties this James to Hartless with James shown as Widowed in 1930. Arthur Dillard is part of Gilliam Family Tree but doesn't show his wife.

Doesn't appear that Johnston went to AL like his brother's family? Were they Glassy Mountain area folks like the others?
William F.'s sister Judith Briant married into the Reids and that lead right back into about three or four marriages back into the Dillards and the Belues in the area. There were actual five in the family that married Briants/Bryants in Joseph's family.

James, Thomas, George should get you back to England with your great grandfathers.

Joseph M and Molly Vermillion Dillard

I'm descended from this line. Like everyone else, it's driving me bonkers. My grandfather was Joseph Lee Dillard whose father was Joseph S. Dillard. My grandfather specifically told me his grandfather, Joseph M. Dillard had been a doctor, so I'm fine there. I also know his family came from North Carolina through Missouri and eventually ended up in Arkansas. I'm fine all the way back to Joseph M. But then I hit the Dillard/Vermillion wall. Has anyone connected them to any of the specific lines from there? I did find a Molly Vermillion who was the daughter of Thomas Vermillion and Ruth Goad. Also, do we know how the children are divided between Malinda and Camilla? I have a sister named Melinda, so that may be a family thing, but then I have a Malinda in another line linking to this one.

In short, help!

Hi. I'm Emily Dillard's grand daughter. My name is Marsha Lund, and my mother was her daughter. The "Emma" Thing isn't true. Her name was Emily Dorcus Dillard...and her friends called her "EM". I don't think I met Paul, but Uncle Billy nd Aunt Bertha were part of my childhood...I know there was a cousin named "Maurice" somewhere in Dallas that my mother (Doris) talked to occasionally. I used to take "Mimi" to art shows and help her set up. You know she painted until 6 weeks before she died! I'm so glad to her from a relative...I didn't know there were any.

Sincerely, Marsha (Mayer) Lund

PS Let me hear from you...by email or 303 682-4076
