I have seem William Dillow and the Ingle lady also. I am not sure which one is William's parents but they are the same Dillow group in Berkeley and Jefferson counties now in West Va. Elder Peter Dillow, Sr leased 75 acres from Lord Fairfax in Jefferson Co.in 1836. All Dillow's lived on his land. He was born in 1757 and died in 1851. I descend from Peter Dillow, Jr that married Pheby Wykoff 23 March 1820 in Jefferson County, Va (now West Va.)

Marianne Dillow

Hi, thanks for post. So far, for sure, I go back to, Thomas William Dillow,Sr., who married Emma Engle. They lived in Jefferson county and buried there. I find a Thomas Dillow, who married Elizabeth on the 30th of March, 1810, and wondering if this is Thomas's parents?? Also maybe this Peter Dillow is in my line?? Still looking back into this family. Who are your grandparents, great-grandparents? So neat about the DNA match and the ship he came to America on. Keep in touch.
Hi,

I descend from Peter Dillow, Jr. that married Pheby Wykoff 23 March 1820 in Jefferson Co., Va (now West Va. ) This is the Dillow's of Mountain Mission near Shannondale, near the Bloomery and Harpers Ferry in Jefferson County formed from Berkeley County. I have researched our line since 1982, We recently have a DNA match with Pierre Delon that came to Philadelphia on the Princess Augusta in 1736. I have a lot of Dillow information to share.

Marianne Dillow
Illinois

I also would like to correspond with Diane or her relatives about a real picture of Polly Ovington. Have tried for years to track one done but no luck. I line comes down through Josiah Meadows in the Summers County area of WV. I've always wondered how Polly met Jacob. Sure would like to find this out while my mother is still living. She's 90 but in poor health. She's a Meadows in Raleigh County. Thanks anyone. Marie @ cmstuard1@sbcglobal.net

i'm ronald c. dillow jr. my family believes that they may have also have decended from peter dillow sr. Most of us have been born and raised in a very small area named Mannigs it is next to mission rd.in the blue ridge mountains of jefferson county ,wv as far back as i can remember our blood line has been from this exact area.We all are entrpenuers or self employed in some degree. Most of us are dark haired brown eyed or hazel eyed and of mediunm build. Most of the dillows from this area have dominate personalities but are open minded and careing people. We are closely related to the viands and otts of this area also.I recently viewed your imput at the berkeley county office and realised you were from indiana or illinois i believe. My father is Ronald C. Dillow sr. grfather Perry j.Dillow ggrJacob Andrew Dillow gggrDavid Dillow born 1871 and thats all i can find.I'm curious to know if we are of german decent or of irish ?Also if the Dillow name or Dillon name was changed wy do they both spell there names the same in ireland and england. And now the united states, i believe there is an important peace of family history missing. Also there is a family rumor that we have cherokee indian in our blood have you ever herd this or is it just a false rumor? But i do beileve most of the dillows in the U.S.are related and possibly the dillons.I actualy lived in the place they called Shannondale half my life ,it has an 80 acre lake with a resort community built around it.I could send you some pictures of the area if you like? I have recently moved to the hedgesville area close to the Dillon's farm museum (NormanL.DILLON)

Ah yes. I think we have spoken before...maybe 3yrs back? We only have 3males available to do the DNA testing, but none are willing as of yet. I have yet to even find where in VA/WV John Dillow was born. It seems there are about 3 Dillow families he could fit in, but there is no evidence as of yet he belongs to any of them.
yes,I believe your accurate with your findings , i also believe we are of french heritage. But there is also a possibility that we could have came from england which doesn't rule out the possibility of still being of french heritage. There is a John Dillow, Abraham Dillow and Michael Dillow in the AmericanGenelogicalBiographicalIndex possibly being born in Virginia around 1740.Just key it in as this Michael Dillow born 1740 in Virginia.Through the ancestry search. But according to all the dna research and the history of the applachian mountains most of the evidence points our decendants coming down from pennsylvania which would make since of us being french.

Hello Marrianne,
I was wandering if the michael hartman dillow you speak of is related to the michael matthew dillow, that was killed by the indians? We live really close to washington county,md, and i was also wandering if wash.cty pa and wash.cty md were all one county in that time frame. I have kind of crazy question for you but i'm curious have you seen the new dominos pizza commercial with Tate Dillow the chicken chef,if so where is he from? He has alot of the same features as the dillow's around this area.

Sorry, but it is the wrong one. Michael Hartman Dillow died in NC. He was in Pa as an immigrant but moved on to NC. Most of his line came to southern Illinos.

You must be thinking of Michael Dillow and Fort Dillow in Pa. They are two different fellows. The one at Fort Dillow in Pa. descends from the group that descends from Pierre Delon/Dulon that came over from France. I have been doing genealogy on both my Dillow lines since 1982.

My father is of the Virinia line and his mother through females goes to Michael Hartman Dillow. :)

Marianne

The DNA results shows that the Virginia Dillow's from Berkeley and Jefferson Counties in Va match with Pierre Delon/Dulon that came from Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France. It has not been determined who the father of elder Peter Dillow that died in Jefferson County parents are. DNA only proves we are of French heritage and kin to the family of Pierre Delon./Dulon. It will take more records to prove who Peter Dillow, Sr. parents are.

I descend from Peter Dillow, Jr and his wife Pheby Wyckoff that married in Jefferson county in 1820 and moved to Sullivan co., Tn after the 1820 census. I was involved in the DNA process.

I am a "Double Dillow" with my father's mother going through the female lines to Michael Hartman Dillow that came to PA and died in NC. That line does not match in DNA wit the other two.

Marianne Dillow
Illinois

All I know that she was Caniadian Indian and was raised my missionaries. I dont think she would be Shawnee tho.

Trying to figure out how our Dillow's plug into the others. First known ancestor is John Dillow b1821 in WV or VA. I descend through his son George W. b1847. No one seems to know who John's parents were. Legend has it we are French, however without proof. My best guess is he is the son of Peter Dillon/Dillow b1775ish in PA. John moved from WV after the Civil War to Fayette Co, PA. Anyone have any ideas?

I believe he might be a son of Peter and Elizabeth Dillon/Dillo, ect. Any of this ring a bell or any ideas of a possible connection?
Hi,

I have heard of David Dillow from the Peter Dillow, Sr. bunch in Jefferson County that was Berkeley County and part of Virginia before it became West Virginia. The DNA results proves the Dillow's of Peter Dillow are kin to the Delo's who changed their name to Dillon that was in Pa. They are only about 30 miles in southeast Pa across from Harper's Ferry,Va. I worked with the earliest researchers of both lines but only DNA could prove kinship because the Dillow's had run out of records.

I descend from Peter Dillow, Jr that married Pheby Wyckoff 23 Mar 1820 in Jefferson Co., Va (now West Va.)

I know about Mannings because my cousin, Connie Dillow, who has passed on now, made a trip to Mannings and to Sullivan Co., Tn where my Peter Dillow, Jr moved to and died. Connie descended from William Dillow that married William Copus. He and all the Dillow's lived on the 75 acres that Peter Dillow, Sr leased from Lord Fairfax.

The Delo's (now Dillon) descend from Alsace, France. That is on the border of France and Germany. That part of France went back and forth between France and Germany in their wars. People who live in that region speak both French and German. It belongs to France now. Most people call us Alsatian because of the land being part of France and Germany at different times as they fought their wars and it is in the region of Alsace at Bas-Rhin.

I know of the Ott's and Viands but not enough. I know Peter Dillow, Sr lived with a George Ott in the 1850 census and earlier the Ott's lived around the Dillow's in earlier census.

Anyway, DNA testing proves our Va Dillow's have a common ancestor with the Delo (Dillon) in Pa. Pierre came over from France and Nicholas 14 years after him. So, we need to find a record to find out if Peter Dillow, Sr descends from Pierre or Nicholas.

Marianne Dillow
Illinois
