I am Michelle's mother and am no longer on Ancestory, but did read your msg. about Elsie Dinwiddie Brown Bartlett and would like to have the information..
Elsie was my Grand Mother, Bonnie was my Aunt and Donald was my Uncle. He died in a B-29 crash in Korea in 1952. He was the navigator. All aboard the "Lady Liberty" perished in the crash.
Elsie died in a Gold Star Mother's home in California, Aunt Bonnie also died in Cal. and Don was finally ID'd and buried in the National Cemetery in Portland in 1953...
I knew that both Elsie and Bonnie were members of the DAR for quite some time, but never had the info. to find their membership...
Elsie and my Grand father, Charles Albert Brown, were divorced many years ago and she remarried, but was a widow by the time I was just a child.
Thank you,
Jane Richards (mother of Michelle)
isis1037@yahoo.com

Do you live in Grayson or Lamar Co.?

There was another "tree limb" of the Dinwiddie family that lived in NTx as well, but I can't remember their names.
My dad's cousins, or something like that.. but I don't know how long they lived there. A guy from Bonham named Joe Walker, or something Walker.. is somehow kin, if that name sounds familiar.
I think it was in the 1930s when Floyd Guy's family came to NTx and then another group came later one. I was told that Floyd Guy's(my Gpa) generation.. or Floyd Guy's dad-uncle generation.. there was like 7 brothers, 6 happened to marry 6 sisters.. and the last boy married..whoever.
I cannot remember any names, sorry.. I asked a few months ago but I never wrote any of it down to keep.
If you have an email.. I could help you get in touch sometime, with my dad & his sister. They remember a lot-I've just never asked until recently.

Hello, My name is Cianan Dinwiddie Foster. My Dinwiddie line is from both Paris and Henry county TN. I have not had any DNA testing done but I do have my great great grandfathers death cert from 1933 that states that his father was named Seth Dinwiddie and Mother Kissie. Kissie was a slave for the Dinwiddie Family. Even after slavery she stayed and worked for the family up until her Death in 1926. My family moved from TN to Illinois and Indiana. Please feel free to contact me at c.foster7@cox.net maybe we can find a connection.

I have a copy of a diary partially written by David T. Dinwiddie.["Pioneer History by Richard C. Schmal; Lowell Area Pioneers on the Oregon Trail, 1853". (from the Dec. 31, 2002 Lowell Tribune, page 8).
The Dinwiddie family joined the "Belshaw Party" traveling from Hebron area, Indiana on 18,March 1853.
He and wife, Elsie (Hildreth)Dinwiddie [my GGGrandparents], along with my GGrandfather [Joseph Milan Dinwiddie]did cross the plains from Indiana to Oregon in 1853.
They settled in Linn County, Oregon in 1854. Their son, Joseph Milan moved several times before settling in Jordon Valley, Oregon (Eastern Oregon, Malhuer County). He married Laura King, a resident a Walla Walla, Washington, and had 6 children:
Zora (Hutchison); Elsie Leonore (Brown/Bartlett);Lola Inez Dinwiddie; Dorris Cecil Dinwiddie; Rufus Milan Dinwiddie; and Orley Dewey Dinwiddie.
Elsie Leonore Dinwiddie Brown/Bartlett married 1.Charles Albert Brown of Ontario/Vale area, Oregon.[son of Albert Brown and Adeline (Tucker)Brown]. They had 3 children:
Grace, Donald and Bonnie.
Grace Brown/Harris/Bates married 1.Harvey Milton Harris [and were my biological parents]. They also had two other children; James [died at age 8 yrs.]; and Sue Ellen [died 2003 in Seattle, Wa]. [All three children were adopted to different families...I was adopted by my 2nd cousin, Grace (Marquis) Harwood/Leathers]; daughter of Nellie (Brown) [m. 1.Rex Marquis; 2.Charles Blanchet]. Other children Claude Marquis.
I also have more information on their some of the King ancestors; [Jesse King moved from Kentucky to Wayne Cnty. Indiana with son, John King. Some of the King family also ended up in Oregon (Jordon Valley, Oregon).
Jane Adair (Harris) Richards

I don't know for sure when the Dinwiddie familly moved to Henry county, but my ancestor was Jane Dinwiddie who married Samuel Gilbert. The Bible says only James, but his wife was Sarah Jamison/Jimison Helm born in 1755. The Gilberts moved in 1828 to Henry County. I believe Jane's brother was Moses S. Dinwiddie because of the 1840 Census. Her parents were 80 to 90 yrs old at that time. A couple of that age was living with Moses. They were living near the Gilbert family at the time. Only circumstantial evidence, but I feel it's valid. No other Dinwiddie family had a couple of that age.

Lolene

In the Dinwiddie line, the names I know are James I, Susan I, Sarah Wm. (from census.) From the Gilbert Bible, Elizabeth Dinwiddie Gilbert,James, then Jane and Jarvis (both died young), Cerena Jane, and my ancestor Sarah Anor Susanna, all Gilberts. The Dinwiddie children are of Moses S., but not positive they are kin. Have a good idea Moses is a brother of Jane Dinwiddie Gilbert wife of Samuel. Their father was James Dinwiddie b 1755.

My family moved to KY then to TN where they died. As far as I know they never moved back to VA., nor did they live in MO, but there were Gilberts in MO.

Hope this helps sort out the white Gilberts for my line. Realistically, in other lines some slaves had children by the master, making them mulatto and kin to me. In this family, no one has done dna tests that I know about, so I don't know.

Lolene

I'm researching the white side of the James /Sarah Dinwiddie family. Their daughter married Samuel Gilbert. I have a copy of the pages of the Gilbert Bible. In it are listed names of people (possibly slaves) with no last name or parent's names. I posted it on the Gilbert list, but you might look and see if you recognize any of the first names. There are birthdates for all. All of the older Gilberts and Dinwiddies died in Henry County, TN. They moved from Madison County, KY originally, I think. A Samuel's land grant was in the county, and some of the children married there. I believe my Samuel was the son of the land grant recipient. If so, they arrived in Ky in 1787, probably from VA. It's not proven yet.

Good hunting,
Lolene

It has been several years since this inquiry was posted, but perhaps the following information will be useful to someone researching this family.

Historical enclyclopedia of Illinois and History of Morgan County, Munsell Pub. Co., Chicago, 1906
Page 809-810
Dinwiddie, James, one of the veterean agriculturalists of Morgan County, Ill. was born on the farm where he now lives, in Section 18, Town 16, Range 10, a mile and a half west of Arcadia, on February 16, 1833, the son of Thomas C. and Vizilla (Sims) Dinwiddie -- the former born in Bourbon County, Kentucky October 6, 1806, and the latter in North Carolina May 30, 1811. . . .
The paternal grandfather was William Dinwiddie. Thomas Dinwiddie, his son, was raised on a farm in Bourbon County, Kentucky, and in 1827 migrated (it was said, afoot) to Morgan County, Ill. He located on a part of the farm which his son, James, now occupies. He and his brother-in-law, Wesley Sims, started a tan yard on this farm in 1828 or 1829, He walked from the farm to Galena, where his uncle, James Dinwiddiw, lived, and, with the latter worked about a year in the blacksmith business. He returned to the farm on foot in 1830. In that year he built a log cabin adjoining the tanyard, containing one room, 16 x 18 feet in dimensions. After his marriage he operated a tanyard for about 12 yers. In 1857 he built the main portion of the large residence now standing on the premises. Thomas C. Dinwiddie died September 8, 1858 and was buried in the Arcadia Cemetery. The deceased was especially active in laying out roads and organizing schools, but was a useful citizen in every way. At one time he served as Justice of the Peace. They were the parents of nine children, namely:
William, who died at the age of 14 years;
James
Andrew
Samuel, who lives three miles east of Literberry, Ill.
Helen M. who married William K. Richardson
Martha A., wife of Thomas Richards who lives in Greene Co., Ill
Thomas who resides in the vicinity of Franklin, Ill
Isabel E. who died at the age of 19 years
David who died in infancy,
In religious faith, the father of this family was Presbyterian and the mother was Methodist.

Illinois Statewide Marriage Index 1763-1900
Dinwiddie Thomas C Simms Vizilla
1830-05-25 Morgan Co
Vol 00A page 428

Thomas C. Dinwiddie was the son of William Dinwiddie (who died abt Jun 1835 in Bourbon Co, KY) and Martha McConnell (b. c 1771 Cumberland Co., PA, died abt 1833 in Bourbon Co. KY). William Dinwiddie's will (7 April 1835) specified that his land was to be sold and named: John T. Piper, husband of his daughter, Martha; James M. Piper, grandson; William M. Dinwiddie and his son (not named); his sons, Thomas and Joseph (with his son, Joseph, going to Joseph's brother, Thomas C. Dinwiddie, in Illinois, to learn the trade of tanner); and sons David and John (to go to their uncle Andrew who lives in New Salem, Washington Co., IN to learn the trade of tanning; his sister, Pansy Weir of New Salem, Indiana; and his brother, Thomas Dinwiddie. In the 1842 deed for the land mentioned in the will, the Dinwiddie heirs of Martha, David and John Dinwiddie were not included, suggesting that perhaps both sons died sometime between their father's death in 1837 and the 1842 deed.

Martha McConnell was the daughter of William McConnell (b. c 1743 Lancaster Co., PA, died 26 Apr 1823 in Bourbon Co, KY) and Rosannah Kennedy, b. Chester Co. PA, died abt 1817 in Bourbon Co., KY).

I am a descendant of Martha McConnell's brother, Samuel McConnell.

Beverley

Hi Jane,

Thanks for this information.

As I said, I'm not researching these lines directly. I show a very, very distant connection to the DINWIDDIE line, as well does my husband's GAUNT line.

I do have a connection to the PRICE line through my BLACKWOOD/ROBERTSON line. So far, not direct.

Benjamin B. PRICE (b 1794 -1797, ?) brother of Robert PRICE, married Nancy BLACKWOOD. As of this date, I can't connection this Nancy BLACKWOOD to my line, but Robert PRICE's son, Michael PRICE m Annis KESTERSON in 1846, AR, d/o John KESTERSON & Malinda DORSEY.

John KESTERSON is the brother of Rebecca Ann KESTERSON who married William John BLACKWOOD in 1826, TN. This is my BLACKWOOD line.

I also have a stretch connection to Mordecia PRICE and Elizabeth White. Their daughter Elizabeth m Warwick MILLER in 1762, PA. The MILLER line goes back to my husband's GAUNT/MILLER/HAINES lines.

Anything sound familiar?

Thank you again,
Linda Cashen Gaunt

Hi Linda

I have an Agnes Dinwiddie, born abt.1802 in Manchester, Lancaster, England, daughter of William Dinwiddie and Anne Hammilton.

She married Colonel Adam Hogg, an officer of the Bombay Establishment. Adam Hogg was b.26 June 1780 in Edinburgh, Scotland, d.1845, Wimbledon, Surrey.

Agnes Dinwiddie and Adam Hogg married 15 November 1821 at the Old Church, Saint Pancras, London, England, and had eight children.

Agnes was Adam Hogg's second wife; the first was Jeanette (or Jenette) Eliza Price (from whose sister, Mary Ann Price, I am descended).

If you would like further details, please let me know.

Kind regards
Jane Rayner

I noted that you are working on the Helm family as well as Dinwiddie. I assume that is Moses Helm. If that is the same line, I'd like to exchange info with you.

Looking forward to a reply.

Also have a Williams family in TN,, but it may be a different line. The line I'm working is Benjamin Williams, Jr. b 1784 in PA, but died in Greene Cty, TN on 11/24/1848.

It is fantastic...what it can do.
Let me know how I can help. I've heard that many MccWilliams dropped the Mc and started going by Williams.
Tiss (Joyce) same address
