Paul O'Brien:
According to newspaper records about Henry Dipper, he arrived in the USA at about age 2 with his parents. That would put their arrival at ~1837 (which isn't consistent with the 1854 La Havre record). How did you reconcile these dates when doing your research?

My g-g-g-grandfather was Georg F Dipper and Catherine "Maggie" Dipper. 26 of the 292 passangers aboard the "Rattler" arrived in New York from La Havre, France on 2 Sept 1854. These 26 came from Wuerttenberg. Georg was 28 at the time and had not yet Maggie whom he would marry in 1871. Their son was Henry, his daughter Margaret and their daughter was my grandmother who married into the German Beers family. There are more coat of arms in that family than most have coats, let alone arms, (LOL). Anyway, I can help with the history from this side of the family,

Thanks,
My wifes family is conected to Emily Dipper as so (her Grandmother) Emily is the daughter of Henry Dipper (1818. Arley) and Mary Clark. Henry is the brother of John Dipper 1813 who had a child Emma 1853, she married Albert Timms and thier daughter Flora Timms married Albert Thompson (Flora Thompson Lark Rise to Candleford) My wifes grandmother lived in Rugby eventualy marrying George Henry Millin Wakefield she went on to produce 13 children. One was Madaline, and one was called Violet. Most of the children finished up in Nottingham. Does this tie in with your family. I have met Violets daughters but not many others. I have a huge family tree of the Dipper family passed onto me through Violets daughter. How can we get in toutch can I sent E mail adresses through this kind of post John Needham

Hi, Flora Thompson's branch of the Dipper (Dibber) family come from North Oxfordshire (Ardley, Juniper Hill etc.) This is my branch of the family. Her mother (Emma Dipper) is my 3X Great-Aunt. Was your wife's grandmother Emily Violet, born in Loughborough about 1899 and moved shortly after she was born to Daventry, Northamptonshire? If so I can connect to her.
Best regards

Hi Patrick,
I am not sure if you will get this as you do not seem to have answered any messages since about 2002. However I am trying to find details for William and Sarah Dipper, probably married in or near Berkshire. They had three children christened- John 22 MAR 1778, Jemima 11 MAR 1770 and Mary 4 Jan 1784.
I thought it may be part of the William Dipper and Sarah Carpenter family but I don't think it is as I know that family had other children and I do not think the join in well with the children I have for my William and Sarah.
If you have any information I would be greatful for it. I am happy to give you any information I can for what happened to the descendants of this family.
Tina

Hi all, Ignore all previous email addresses. If you would like information, or can help by providing information, regarding the Dipper families in England, please contact me. If anyone has any photos or docs of any Dippers anywhere please let me have copies. Our branch were in Gloucestershire until 1800s then in London area. The Gloucester Dippers remained in Deerhurst/Apperley area until 1920s. More information would be appreciated. Thanks. Pat (Patrick Dipper)

Hi Margaret,

I am delighted to hear from you and your link with the Dipper Family Tree. The information you have given is extremely exciting. I note from the records in the PRO index that Charles R Dipper was registered born in Sep 1923 (therefore born in the 3 months before, eg Jun to Aug 1923), also Rose declared her name as Clark without the e. I can trace 5 other brothers and sisters: Joseph C, George B, Violet F, Florence A and Frederick G. This is because all births after 1911 showed the mother's maiden name in the index books and makes family grouping easier.

Also of interest is the detail on William John Dipper. There appears to be 2 William Dippers as head of 2 large familes and living in the same area. This should be fun in seperating!! If you have further information, it would be great to hear from you to see what we can do. Also, if you need further information yourself, please ask.

I have 2 e-mails.

andy.dipper@whsmithnet.co.uk for week -ends
andrew.dipper@whsmithnet.co.uk for week days

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Andy Dipper

Calling all Dippers

Hi We are trying to compile as full as possible index of all Dippers. We have a large tree from John Dipper of Tirley 1600s as well as several small trees from Hereford Worcester and Oxford areas. Several families gravitated to London circa 1800s. We are also trying to connect to our American cousins. We aim to show where records can be obtained and offer an exchange of information service. Please contact either with enquiries or with information. Many thanks.

Patrick Dipper

Yes indeed, I can give you much information regarding that line of Dippers, You are at Tewkesbury which is where several Dippers circa 1880s went to Grammar School,
email pmdipper@whsmithnet for more. Incidently we can trace from 1600s through to London and to present day many from this area.

Pat Dipper

Hi, I am Andrew Dipper's nephew, son of Andrew's older brother Colin Dipper. I am currently living in Tewkesbury about 3 miles away from Apperly in Gloucestershire.

I would be very interested to know if anyone can tell me any more about a John Dipper who lived in Apperly, Gloucestershire, England. A horse drawn cart baring his name can be found in the Cotswold Countryside Collection near Northleach in Gloucestershire, England.

Is it possible to know when and where he lived? Was he married? Any other info about him?

Many thanks,

John Dipper.

Hi there Pat, my name is Andy Dipper and came across this website when I was doing a search for my name. I am one of two sons, my dad being Malcolm Joseph Dipper. He had one sister Marion Joan and their parents were Joseph Fredrick Dipper and Doris Bellis. They came from East London and he worked on the railways and moved up to Nottingham in 1950. I am fascinated now to hear how I fit into the bigger Dipper family having thought that my family was very small! I would love to talk more. Could I ring you,.or you ring me on 07890 186 998?
Thanks, Andy Dipper

That's good news. I'm sure of their Oxfordshire origins because I have my Great, Great Grandfather's Naturalizatoin/Citizenship papers stating that.

They seem to have been recruited to work as mid-level managers or skilled workers for the mills of the Blackstone River Valley. The town they eventually settled is called Upton. The Upton Town Historian has been helping me with research. There were two Dipper families. One from Oxfordshire, the other London. They were apparently related according to family stories. One eventually married another. She became Annie Dipper Rollins Dipper, a double Dipper and he was George Albert Dipper son of Daniel and Susan Payne.

An English relation was a crew member on the Olympic, sister ship to the Titanic. That was known and I have confirmed it. So the families must have kept in touch to have known this but that connection was lost at some point.

I would be glad to explore the connection further with you. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Yes it is very possible that the American Dippers are related to me since we seem to have a common ancestry in Oxfordshire

I am descended from Dippers from Oxfordshire. John Dipper married to Ann Miller late 1700's. Their son James married Hannah Barnes. They emigrated to Rhode Island and then Massachusetts in the early 1850's with 4 of 5 children. Joseph (my great great grandfather), James, Ann, Emma, John. Edward was born in RI.

Hannah was the daughter of William and Sarah Barnes. I have daguerreotypes of James and his mother Ann Miller Dipper.

I have been quite successful gathering information on this end.

Think these Dippers are related to yours?
