Hi Michael, hope you're still out there :). I am not a Dishman descendant either but have been looking at Adam and Rebecca's family lately. An African American church was organized in their home in 1881. I was trying to get more information on the family so the information the church has can be updated. Their information referrs to them as Colonel and Rebecca Dishman. I don't know if that was a nickname or a former military title ???

Thanks for anything you can share.

Arnell
Thomas Jefferson Dishman died 1790 that is why his children took care of their mother Kstieieah Doublehead "Kizzie" and other nicknames I gather.

Also there is a picture of Chief Taltsutsa Doublehead tombstone on the internet I can't remember just where I found it. But poss. on Ancestry.

I believe he was the brother of Kstieieah Doublehead Dishman bec. she was born 1757 and he was born 1744 sup and some say 1755.

And they had dif. mother's. Chief's mother was Wurtah Woman aka Red Pain Clan Mother & Ari-Wadi. Kstieieah's mother was Aisley of the Paint Clan. This is far as I can tell.

This Indian stuff is just so messed up it is hard to get really good info or at least info that is sourced etc...
Small world! My 4th Great-Grandfather is none other than James Robert Dishman, with Kizzie being my 5th Great-Grandmother on my dad's side of the family. I recently found this out trying to find some information on my dad's dad, grandmother and grandfather. I got curious and took it a few steps further to find out how far my lineage goes with my great-grandmother, Sarah Margaret Hardin. I also did not know anything about Chief Taltsuska Doublehead until I started reading more about him. WOW! If anyone has anymore information like actual birth years for Chief Doublehead and his wife, please send me an email. j_futral424@hotmail.com

I have been attempting to track the Kstieieah/Chief Doublehead connection for some time. (She is my 6th g-gmother)I have come across a fellow geneology-seeker that thinks she is not the daughter of Chief Doublehead, but the daughter of his father, Great Eagle, which does make more sense with the overall timeline, but I'm continuing to seek out a direct connection via verifiable records. There is some neat information at the link below about her travels with her sons. Apparently, at some point her husband Tommy is removed from the picture and her sons continue to watch out for her, going so far as to hide her in the hills when they were removing the Cherokee.

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/h/o/w/Jody-L-Howa...

Lydia Brown Dishman

I am trying to figure out who the first spouse of my ancestor Lydia Brown was. I know he was one of the Dishman's who lived in Wayne Co., KY but I can't figure out who.

Lydia had 3 children with him - Katharine Jane Dishman (b. 1841 m. David Crocket Craig), Jefferson Brown Dishman (b. 1842 m. Martha J. Jump) and Kelan Jackson Dishman (b. 1845 m. Isafena Broyles). They can be found in the 1850 Division 1, Wayne Co., Kentucky Census listed under the surname Morgan along with their mother Lydia and her new husband William Morgan. In the next census year they are in Dekalb Missouri and Jefferson and Kelan are listed with their proper surname.

I have thought that since she named her eldest son Jefferson she might have married a Jefferson Dishman herself but none of the Jefferson Dishman's I've found in that area seem to fit. If anybody has any info they could share I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Hello,

I saw a posting you had about Kiziah Doublehead being your 5th gr grandmother.

Now I am not sure who you are talking about but I never saw anything stating Chief Doublehead was ever mar. to anyone named Kiziah but supposeldy Chief Doublehead had a dt with an Unknown Cherokee Woman named Kstieieah Doublehead (Kiziah/Kizzie) who mar. Thomas Dishman and they had 3 boys Lewis, James Robert & Jefferson Dishman. I descend from James Robert Dishman.

Please contact me direct NolaMrtn1@aol.com so you can tell me if this is the Kiziah you are looking for and perhaps you misunderstood her to be wife of Chief Doublehead instead of his daughter.

Thanks
Nola

Does anyone have any actual proof of a connection between Kizziah and Chief Doublehead? I have looked into this matter and have found no proof that she was ever married to him and as for him being her father he would have been around 5-9 when she was born so that seems more than a little far fetched to me... Not trying to step on any toes I would love to find the connection, but I don't believe any connection until I have some kind of proof. Kizziah is my 5th great grandmother. :)

This Mary E is listed in the 1880 Census as 6 years old so that would make her born in 1874. Mary is such a 'lovely' name to research. I have 7 Marys and 2 Pollys. This is the census I have for this Mary E. Her parents were 1st cousins, and both were grandchildren of Jefferson Dishman and Lydia Upchurch. My ancestor is a daughter of theirs too.

1880

Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace
George DISHMAN Self M Male W 40 TN Farmer --- ---
Lucinda DISHMAN Wife M Female W 32 KY Keeping House KY KY
Elijah B.
I know her middle initial is E. From family records (no documentation) I have her listed as Mary Elizabeth. I can not figure out which line she belongs to. I have found both a Mary Elizabeth and a Mary Elliott who were married to different people other than Lewis S Hill.

The date of birth Apr 1874 matches the other Mary Dishmans but I'm not sure if she is the one I'm looking for. Family records and the cemetery note says she died during the influenza epidemic of 1918-1919. I know Lewis Hill remarried in 1923.

If you have any other information I would be most grateful. I am going to look into your findings further. I cannot find a death certificate or marriage certificate. I am at quite a loss. Lewis and Mary were my great grandparents. Thank you for your help.

We must be related because Lois Genevieve Dishman was my grandmother. She had five children and I am descended from her daughter, Mabel. Grandmother always called her father Greenberry and told us about him. Which of the five are you descended from? I would love to share information, but my mom is in the hospital right now and I have been spending all my time with her. To contact me directly, use Email: gen1777@aol.com. We have been doing genealogy since 1976.

Re: Iredell Dishman

The Dishman/Dishmon's and the Parkers lived close to and on the Iredell/Wilkes County Border. Part of Iredell became Wilkes County about 1815. I have ancestor that bought land in Iredell and sold same land in Wilkes do to county border change.

There were a few Parkers in our area but the ones living close to the Iredell border -SE corner of Wilkes Border descend from Jonathan Parker of Surry/Rowan. Jonathan died in Surry. His sons Squire and John were in the SE corner of Wilkes -Brushy Mountain.

Jim, thank you and I will be sending you a request to look at my tree here shortly. I have only been doing research for a few months now. I became interested in my "roots" after having my mtdna (HVR 1 and 2) done. It really is quite fascinating to be able to see a list of names, birth dates, occupations, etc of a whole group of people that one belongs to.

I don't expect to find anyone famous, but I must say I am intrigued with the Kizziah/Chief Doublehead possible connection. My family always said we were "indian" but alas, my DNA proves that my maternal line was not connected with the beginning of the Native Indians on this side of the continent.

Thanks again for any information you might be able to help me with. My email is debbie.cooper@gmail.com
