Hi,
I realize it has been a long time since you posted this, but I am the granddaughter of each Minnie and Jesse. I am Evelyn's daughter. It's kind of funny of how Grandma Jesse and Grandma Minnie came to be together. Minnie is my mom's, mom and Jesse is my dad's, dad. Both of their spouses had passed away years prior, so they began spending time together after a family visit back to Indiana. They continued seeing each other and eventually married. It was kind of odd at first, but very sweet that they each had someone to spend their last moments with and not alone. Feel free to email me direct if you want any family info for either side rlittlefernandez@gmail.com.

You may not know these people but I figure it's worth an email. Any help would be appreciated.
Doan family in Missouri

Looking for information for Doan's living in Missouri in 1880's. Luther Doan, born beforte 1863 in Illinois; married Elizabeth Brinegar in 1884 in Linn County, Missouri; died before 1900. (Elizabeth "Lizzie" was born 18 Jan 1865 in MO and died 8 Apr 1927 in Linn County, MO). They had one child, Floyd Luther Doan, born 4 Jan 1887 in Linn County, MO. Marriage records indicate Floyd married Jennie MacGregor in 1910, then was married to Fern by 1930 Census.

Another Doan looking for info on - Thomas C or Charles Doan. Thomas married Sarah A Brinegar in 1875 in Linn County, MO. Sarah was born about 1854 in Missouri. She may be daughter of John Hoy Brinegar and Sarah/Sallie Boles. 1880 Census has listed Charles A Doan, 29; Sarah A, 25; Nellie, 3; Archie 1; Mary F Brinegar, sister-in-law, 20.

Archie died in 1886 in Linn County, MO

On Find a Grave web site, also found a Pearl Doan, died 16 Oct 1886 at age 3. She's buried in same cemetery as Elizabeth Brinegar Doan and Archie Doan. Is she another child of Sarah and Thomas/Charles Doan or a child of Elizabeth and her husband, whoever that is?

Any info any any of these people will be greatly appreciated

Julie,

Notice that I finally wrote to Judy who offered the picture to me, and I just cannot remember if I received it. About a year ago my computer was down about three times, and I changed anti-virus protection three times! Julie, Orville W. Septrion, brother of Cecile E. Septrion, was married to Edna Helen Griffes, daughter of my grandfather's brother, wo we are quite related, indeed! I hope I can either find the picture or get it from Judy, who had trouble getting a message to me, also!

Ann Arbor...great! Our oldest granddaughter just might be going to U. of M. next fall!

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

Lois

I thought I did but cannot find it! Did you scan it to me or did you mail it to me? It is important because Julie Septrion has just notified me about the picture. If you still have the picture, maybe you can scan it to both of us. I will continue to look for a manila envelope in my computer room, tomorrow, though!

Sorry we have had a hard time connecting,

Lois
I am particularly interested in Ephraim Doan (1827-1890)and any member of his family: Dovey Marilla Doan-Vickery, Seraphim Doan, and/or Mary Hannah Doan-Ferguson-Winsor. Ephraim married Polly Hannah "Mary" Tate in 1848. Anyone familiar with this line who has any pictures they would be willing to share, your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I'm not sure if I'm relative of Gilbert Doan, that is something I would have to check with my father, but I am a Doan and I do live in Elyria, Ohio and our family has lived in Elyria for a while. So maybe there is a connection, we have a whole Doan family book for some reason, so I'll have to look that all up and I'll let you know!

Hello Corey - I believe that we are second cousins. My dad was Gary Dunbar, son of Hal and Marie (Doan) Dunbar. Milton (or Mick) was her youngest brother. My Ggrandmother Anna lived with Mick and his family until her death about the time I was 13 (1973). Is your mother's name Lois and have a sister Cheryl? It is a shame that the Doan family bible was in such poor shape and your mother didn't feel it was saveable. It would have been awesome to have access to such a wonderful piece of history. Please email me - I would love to catch up with what is up with your family after all these years. Kim

Sorry it has taken me YEARS to get back to your post. I know very little about Milton other than his wife and children. His mother's name was Sarah, but I am not aware of her maiden name. It would be GREAT if Joseph were his father's and Gfather's name with Emily and William were siblings. The information I vaguely remember was that Milton was adopted in Canada. I would love to hear more. email me!

Hi!

I'm seeking information on 2 sisters: Seraphim and Hannah M. (Mary) Doan. They were daughters of Ephraim and Polly Hannah (Tate) Doan. I lose track of Seraphim after the 1860 census. She was born in 1851 in Orange County, Indiana. I can track Hannah M. up to 1880 and then the trail goes cold. Hannah was born in 1853 also in Orange county and married Jesse M Ferguson in 1871. She had 3 kids with him. I just want to know what happened to these 2 ladies: Death dates, marriages, etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!!

European Origin of Doan

My parents/relatives do not know much about the origin of our surname 'Doan'. The only fact I know with certainty is that we have no relation to the Vietnamese variant of the name.

I'd like to know more about the pre-American origins of this name?

A fact check on this site says: doan 1. Irish: variant of Doane.----->Doane: Irish: reduced Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Dubháin ‘descendant of Dubhán’, meaning ‘the little black one’, a common name in the 16th century in southern Ireland, or Ó Damháin ‘descendant of Damhán’ meaning ‘fawn’, ‘little stag’, a rare Ulster name. See also Devine.

Is this info accurate?

Any tips or info would be appreciated.

According to "The Doane Family" Book 1, Mahlon Doane b. 1789, married Sophia Dennis. They lived in Middlesex Co. (Ontario, Canada?). No children are listed.

Mahlon was the son of Joseph Doane and his cousin, Mary Doane. Joseph was one of the "Tory Doans". The "e" was dropped by most of the Doans who went to Canada.

Mahlon's sister, Leah, married Joseph Dennis. They lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan and had children: Joseph, Mary, Hahlon, Aaron and Abraham.

Hope this helps.
I know this is a couple of years old, but I am going to take a chance and reply anyway.
My great-grandmother was Amanda Jane Doan(e), and she had a younger sister, Harriet Maria Doan(e). The information I received is that she married a man named Moore, and they had four children-Willie, Sadie, Neal, and Tony. I haven't found records on this family yet, though, so am not sure this information is accurate. Harriet's family lived in Huron County from the time they entered this country from Canada, except for a few years around 1870 when they were living in Columbia Twp, Tuscola County. One of Harriet and Amanda's brothers did live in Tuscola County when he married.
