I am researching the Dob descendents - starting with the 10 children of Albert Gerrits 1699-1781) and his wife, Trijtje Jacobs ( ??- 1788). This family started out in Usquert, Groningen. There were a number of family members that immigrated to the United States - Muskegon, Michigan, New Jersey and Keokuk, Iowa.

Please feel free to email me - will.john@yahoo.com

Thanks,

My Dad recently told me the story of seeing a man coming toward him waving and his Father saying it was cousin Maarten Dob back from America. That would have been about the 1930's in Texel, Holland. I can't find the connection in the Dob family with America so I am wondering if you are related to them. My Grandfather was Gerrit Dob born 1871 Texel, Netherland. His parents were Hindrik Dob born 1834 Uithuizen, Gron., Netherland, mother Johanna Niesse born 1838 Stad, Aan't, Haringvliet, Netherland. Hindrik's parents were Gerrit Wildriks Dob born 1802 Usquert, Groningen, Netherland and Jantje Klassens Huizinga born 1802 Usquert, Groningen, Netherland.
Mary, or "Marie De Maar" (as found on the 1900 census) is the daughter of Hendrikje van Kampen and Jacobus De Maar. Hendrikje is the sister of Jan v. Kampen, my great-grandfather. I have been trying to track down the "downlines" of all relatives possible.

I know that Henry & Mary had at least 5 children: Margary, Colbert, Raymond, Fredrik and Grace. What happened to any of these, I don't have any clue.

Any information on these would be appreciated. You may also reach me away from the bulletin board if you wish at gvankampen@earthlink.net.

Thanks again,

I'm looking for more information on the family of Albert Dobbs and Anna Smit, especially Alberts parents Gerrit and Itje, or Garret and Ida . It appears the family settled in Keokuk Iowa after immigrating from Holland in 1889. This Dob family is part of my Dob family. Any information would be appreciated.

Within the last week worked with one of the descendants of Henry and Mary/Marie DeMar Dob. I have access to most of the birth, marriage and death records. Please let me know what info you are seeking, I can also put you in contact with relatives in Muskegon.

I too am looking for Dobb from the Spring Lake and Muskegon area. Specifically, a Henry Dobb and wife Mary. Both are listed in the 1910 census with both parents coming from the Netherlands. Mary's maiden name was DeMaar. This is who I am trying to research on. If this family sounds familiar, I can give you census info.

Have been doing my family history, my mother's maiden name is Dobb/Dob, her family arrived in Spring Lake, Michigan in the mid 1860's. The family names were Roelof K. Dobb who married Aaltje(Alice)Huisinga. It appears there were two brothers, Hypa who married Jantje Fischer and Albert who married Rena Zwart, one sister as well Anje(Anna) who married Hilbrand Start(k). Perhaps there is a link?

My maiden is Dobbs. My grandfather, William A. Dobbs was the child of Albert Dob and Anna Smit of Usquert, Groningen, Netherlands. Albert migrated to the US in 1873 at the age of 21. He married Anna in 1880. Albert was the son of Eibe Alberts the surname Dob was adopted in 1845 when it was necessary to adopt a surname in the Netherlands. Eibe was married to Evertje Jacobs Dyk in 1861. Their children were Nanje, Knelske, Albert, and Jacob. I have on my emigration list a Hildebrand Dob who at the age of 28 migrated in 1854. This is most likely yours. I found this on a microfilm of Dutch Emigrants to the US. from 1835-1880. Would love to see how we are related. Gotta be somewhere as there were not that many Dob's that came to the US.

I can read some dutch if you need me to look at a copy of your document. And according to the films, Hildebrand definitely migrated in 1854. I wonder if Hildebrand and Albert are related. Anna Smit migrated also with her father, Willem Hindricks Smit, so I wonder if Gerzina is also related. How far do you have both of these lines back? You might want to email me at dlambert@houston.rr.com

Yes... I have a letter from my grandfather stating that Gerzina and Hildebrand migrated in 1848; however, the 1900 Census records completed by Hildebrand denote 1854 as the actual emigration year. Looks like we're on to something here. FYI, my brother uses the name "Van dob" in his business. I also have a very ancient typed document found in my grandfather's family bible, which I believe is written in Dutch. There appears to be two families listed... "Smith" and "Dobb".

My father's family name is Dobb; also spelled Dob in early records from the Netherlands. Our chart begins with Hildebrand Dobb (b. 1827), married Gezina (Smith?) b. 1838.
Hildebrand and Gezina immigrated to America (Chicago) in approx. 185x, had 11 children all tolled. The oldest, Jacob H. Dobb, was my great grandfather, his son my grandfather Herbert Jacob Dobb, and his son my father Herbert James Dobb. The latter is still living (82). We'd be most happy to learn more from your information.
