I just found some info posted on another site that Jean Frederick, Catherine Leininger, and Philip were born in Zinswiller, Bas-Rhin, Alsace France. These records are reported to bo online, but in French. I am continuing my search and hope to find the proof soon.

On several census I have seen now, they list France as their birthplace. I am from this line. Can I ask where or how you know they consider themselves German? I think I remember hearing German when I was young, but not sure. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the area they came from went back and forth between the two countries. Maybe legaly it was France, but the people living there still considered themselves German. Do you have anything from before they landed in New Orleans? Thanks

I am just getting started in this fascinating hobby so bear with me. My Docks came from Westhoffen, Alsace, France - Louis Theodore Dock arrived in Cincinnati, Ohio 20 Aug 1840. He married Philipine Rapp in 1844. She came to America in 1841. She was born in Bergzabern, Bavaria, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. They both came to escape the war. I have pictures of both of them if this would help. Also, I have a picture of a lady (Great, Great, Great Grandmother Rapp) taken in 1847 when she was 87 years old. I don't know her first or maiden name. We always considered our Dock German.

Re: Dock family

Cousin Thomas Dock,
I saw this entry and was not able to follow the string all the way. I hope you're still in contact! Your Docks are my cousins from the Celina/Coldwater Ohio area. Those Docks are from Zinswiller: the earliest one I found was a birth in 1611. Philippe Dock was a first cousin of my gr gr grandfather Jean Georges Leininger, who married Elizabeth Broom, sister of Philippe's wife Harriet Amanda "Aunt Mandy" Broom. As you well know, the girls were nieces of John "Johnny Appleseed" Chapman and related many stories about their celebrated uncle. Elizabeth (Broom) Leininger died in the 1860s; but Amanda lived until her 80th birthday in April 1915. My late cousin Ida (Leininger) Kettering remembered many stories told to her by her "Aunt Mandy" and walked with me through the area on the State Line where Chapman had an apple tree nursery and where William Broom kept Chapman's "headquarters." Cousin Ida introduced me to Harold and Lowell Dock. I saw the keepsake New Testament from John Chapman, given to his half-sister Persis (Chapman) Broom after his death.
All descendants of Amanda (Broom) Dock are eligible for membership in The Wolcott Family Society as descendants of Henry Wolcott of Windsor, CT, progenitor of a very celebrated line of patriots, statesmen, and other influential descendants. The Brooms' Wolcott descent is through John Chapman's stepmother, Lucy (Cooley) Chapman. I can put you in contact.
Please contact me by reply, and directly at rleini7194@aol.com
Thanks!
Robert L.

Looking for information/decendents of the Dock family that lived in Mekinock, Grand Forks, North Dakota around 1880 to 1900. Most of the family later moved to Roseau County, Minnesota. The father's name was Ole Dock, mother was Caroline Bekkedahl. I know of eight children: Knute, Carl, Peder/Peter, Maria, Maline, Leonard, Enoch, and Elizabeth, all born in Mekinock except Knute, who was born in Minnesota. Ole immigrated from Norway and Caroline may have been born in Wisconsin. I've seen the name spelled Dack too. I'm trying to fill in the blanks regarding decendents.
Thanks!

I have a question for anyone with this family tree. Is this line French or German? I have read where the town went back and forth betwen countries, so I am confused. Do the people from here consider themselves French or German. I always hear my family was German, but then when I found out where they were from and that they landed in New Orleans,I have always wondered. Does anyone know for sure, was Jean[John] French or German. Thanks for anyone who can answer this for me.

Here is a translated(by Lydia Sparacio Bontempo) Middlesex County Court order book for 2nd Sept 1740. A deed of gift from Dalhimus Macktyer to Hugh Macktyer of a negro slave was proved by the oaths of Curtis Parrett and WILLIAM DOCKS the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. I haven't seen the Docks name in the Middlesex County's Christ Church Parish Register. But he was there to witness the gift and to go to court.

Really need to talk to someone about Jules Dock. My father went to back to Oklahoma before he died. My sister and him made contact with Jule's family and were to meet later that evening. For what ever reason, he never went back. Jules was his father he never knew. And from what I was told, Jule's family did not know about my father, until that day. Unlike my father. I value very deeply " family and where we come from", and I need to know. I feel an extreme void and loss without answers or connections. I do have a birth certificate of my father ( oct.1, 1931 ) to show Jules as his father. Please contact me at girch2u@hotmail.com or p.o. box 821 sutherlin or. 97479

Elizabeth DOCK m. Michael BRAUSS 1777 PA

I am trying to find information on an Elizabeth Dock, daughter of Phillip, who married Michael Brauss (Brouse) on August 12, 1777 at a Lutheran Church in Cocalico, Lancaster Co, Pennsylvania. I have information on Michael but very little information on Elizabeth. I would like to identify conclusively who her parents were, when she was born (at least approximately), and when she died. I believe she is buried along side her husband in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wadsworth, Medina County, Ohio, but the stone is completely faded and no information can be read. Any help in identifying anything about this woman would be greatly appreciated. She was my seventh-great-grandmother. Thanks!

I am related to Sophia Dock, Emanuel's sister. Sophia married George Miller and is buried in St. Peter's Cemetery, Freeburg, Washington Twp., Snyder Co., Pa. After Sophia died George Miller moved to Buffalo Twp., Union Co., Pa. and is buried in Dreisbach Cemetery along with Jonathan Miller. Emanuel was married to Polly Schluttery by Rev. Shindel, Jr. Emanuel's son Jacob married Amelia Diemer, Jan 7, 1872 in Middlecreek Twp., Snyder Co. I think his son John S. married Anna J. Stricker of Beavertown on Oct. 29, 1872 by Rev. Aurand. His daughter Mary Ann married A. H. Hackenburg of Snyder Co. May 25, 1882 by Rev. Shindel,Jr.

Emanuel lived next to George Miller in Freeburg according to 1860 Census order.

I don't have a record which lists Jonathan Dock (Duck) as Sophia's father.
However, they were housed near one another in the 1850 Census Record, p. 116 & p. 117. In addition, George and Sophia Miller named their eldest son Jonathan most probably after his grandfather.

As you probably know, Emanuel had other children.

Do you know anything about a Bessie R. Dock, born 11/9/1889 and died 6/17/1959? She is buried at Globe Mills Cemetery in Kreamer, Pa. She was living as a Granddaughter in the house of Henry and Eliza Roush in 1900 and 1910. She goes on to graduate as a nurse from Philadelphia General Hospital.

I am currently researching the Roush family and I have come across a woman named Bessie R. Dock living as a Grandaughter in a Roush household. I figure her Mother was a Roush that married a Dock, but I cannot prove it at all. Anyway, the info I have on her so far is that she was born 11/9/1889 and she died 6/17/1959. She is buried at Globe Mills Cemetery in Kreamer, Pa. I am figuring she never marries as she is buried as Bessie R. Dock. I first found her as a 9 year old in 1900 living with Henry and Eliza Roush. In 1910 she is also living with Henry Roush and she is 19. I guess Henry dies after that and I have found her on the 1920 census as a nursing graduate of Philadelphia General Hospital. She is living at the hospital, probably in a dorm. Do you know anything of her?
