I'm not sure about Oscar Dodd, but in Dallas there was a Fannie Mae Dodd who was married to Johnnie Sidney Dodd. They had three children in Houston. Don, David, and Glenda Dodd. After John Dodd died, Fannie moved back to Dallas. Hope this helps.

I found one of my family lines in the 1840 census and noticed that one relative was listed as disabled. The term "Casser" was shown in the "reason for disability" column. Does anyone know what that term means?

Searching for information on the family of Charles Dodd (also written as "Dodds") and Bridget Cahill Dodd (Dodds) formerly of Lancaster, Circleville and finally Columbus, Ohio. These are my g-g-g-grandparents. They had six chidlren: John, Jane, Bridget, Mary, Katherine & James. What I know of them is listed below:

1.Charles Dodd (Dodds)
a.Born about 1830 - I do not know where but possibly Ireland.
b.1870 Census: 3rd Ward of City of Lancaster, Fairfield County. 45 year old Charles Dodd "laborer", living with wife Bridget (35) "keeping house", sons James (12), John (4) and daughters Jane (9), Kate (7) and Mary (1). Also living with them is Michael Cahill (25) "laborer" & Thomas Welsh (25) "laborer". Michael Cahill is likely a brother of Bridget.
c.1880 Census: 3rd Ward of Circleville, Pickaway County. 50 year old Charles Dodd, living with wife Bridget Dodd (40) "keeping house", daughters Jane (18) "domestic servant", Mary (10), Bridget (7) and son John (13)
d.1881 (Columbus, Ohio Directory): Charles Dodds, works at Union depot, resides 106 s Belle, W.C. Also listed is John Dodd, stitcher at Peters Dash Co, living at same address.
e.Died or buried about October 7th, 1882. Buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio. D Cathedral Lot 81.
i.Bridget Dodd, wife of Charles bought 6 grave spaces in 1882 for $25.00. I presume the death of Charles was the reason these graves were purchased.
ii.Note that on the very same day a man named John Cahill bought six grave spaces next to Bridget in same lot.

2.Bridget Cahill Dodd (Dodds)
a.Born in Ireland around 1837
b.Parents were possibly Patrick Cahill and Catherine Welsh (Walsh/Welch)
c.1870 Census: as above
d.1880 Census: as above
e.1883-1884 (Columbus, Ohio Directory): 106 Belle, W.C, Bridget, Jane, John, Kate
f.1884-1885 (Columbus, Ohio Directory): 106 Belle, W.C, Bridget, Jane, Kate
g.1885-1886 (Columbus, Ohio Directory): 106 Belle, W.C, Bridget, Jane, John
h.1886-1887 (Columbus, Ohio Directory): 28 W.
Yes many.at Oak Grove..some cousins are also buried in Sulpher Springs and Campbell cemetaries , if I remember correctly. I read somewhere that it might have been private burial ground lost or just a marker lost. There is some info in the bible pages and I believe he showed up in the 1850 census if I remember. I often wondered if his grave might have been close to where he was living. I will be in touch.

I did find all the information on William L Dodd and Mary Pierce, Wills, stories, etc., online. If you need that info, let me know and I can email or post the link. I will try to find those bible pages... much of my Dodd Genealogy, was given to me, but it is documented, and supported. I have been to many of the graves. I have been to VA,TN.. I have only been working online about 2 years, so I am trying to figure out how to get the info out there online. I have lots of pics and documents that I could post.
I live in Springfield, Missouri. Born and raised. I would love to see the bible pages! And any information you have documented.
I met my second cousin online about a month ago and we have been gathering and exchanging family pitures of our grandparents. I started doing Dodd genealogy about 10 yrs ago. My dad is a Dodd, but was raised by a Williams. He and his siblings knew very little about their biological Dodd family.

Heather Dodd Johnson
hmj1978@gmail.com

The Bible was falling apart at one of the families out by Loami, IL.... and was typed up so family could see... but yes our Dodd family supposedly came from London, England to apprentice, I will have to look up the year 1773, I think. They let him go after several years, He started a family. Those lines are documented. I have that info. are you here locally? I have a copy of those bible pages. I could post those online. I will look up the other info...I do not know anything beyond England. He was born around 1754, I recall. The name Dodd is very old in England back to 1100 and common in western England in the 14th Cent. may have even been Welsh. I have working on my ancestors for 35 yrs...

I have never seen the Dodd bible. Is there a site I can view it? I go by Leffell being correct from William's marriage record of Leffel https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XRJL-SP2 and that Charles was born a couple years after. But I have seen so many trees of my same line take off in so many different directions as to who Charles mother was and to who William L. Dodd's parents are. I heard his father was also a William and came from Loundon, England. So fustrating trying to find paper work or anything indicating this was his father...

I have that he was son of William L. Dodd & Elizabeth Leffell. but I have heard of the discrepancy, that you speak of. I believe we are definitely related. My line is Charles youngest brother Jesse. I believe there may have been as many as 8 other siblings. there is a Dodd family bible that you may have seen. and I have worked mostly with census, marrriage, death, cemetary and other physical records. but I had stumbled into the bad habit of adding info without verifying the sources...I am now trying to correct this. Also I have finally inquired of the book in the Roanoke Public Library, VA. called: "Dodd-Hale and related families: A Goodly Heritage" V Ref 929.2 D661H

Based upon your time frames, you are probably either referencing my Great Grandfather, Thomas Henry Dodd, Sr. ("Tom") or my Great-Great Grandfather, Henry Thomas Dodd.

Henry Thomas Dodd (b. 5/19/1856; d. 8/30/1925)was married to Mary Elizabeth Coleman (b. 7/25/1861; d. 11/23/1912. one of his children was Thomas Henry Dodd, Sr. I do not know anything more about Henry Thomas Dodd other than a little info on a marriage certificate: Cleburne County Marriage Record (1867-1874)...selected names...Henry T. Dodd married Mary E. Coleman, 16 Sep 1874 license, 17 Sep 1874 marriage date, by Hiram S. Whitman, J. P. Parent J. D. (likely should be J. W.) Dodd and Thomas Coleman, guardian give consent, "the parties being under age" (< 21)

Henry Thomas Dodd and Mary E. Coleman are buried in the Gulfcrest Cemetery in Kushla, Mobile County, Alabama.

Thomas Henry Dodd, Sr. ("Tom")(b. 4/25/1889 d. 9/_/1964) married Bessie Anna Fulford (b. 7/2/1887 d. 9/23/1941). His sister was Dora Ella Dodd (Welch)who married Fred Welch (b. 1880) in 1905 who had come to Chunchula, AL from Shenandoa, Indiana in 1892 with his brother, John, and mother. They started an orchard and nursery selling fruits and nuts locally and shipping back to Iowa. After Fred died in 1920, Dora and Thomas started a nursery in Semmes called Dodd & Welch. Thomas later bought Dora out of the business and changed the name to Tom Dodd Nurseries a business which remained in the family until it was sold by Tom's grandchildren a few years ago. My great-uncle, Tom Dodd, Jr. passed away two years ago who was a very well renowed and respected horticulturist.

Thomas Henry Dodd, Sr. and Bessie Anna Fulford are buried in the Semmes Cemetery

is she related to the Dodds? Would certainly appreciate any shared information.

Hi Craig,

I do have information on the Dodds in NZ, as for them being from Canterbury, I am not sure. I have the information filed away, and with a reminder I could get it out for you. OR, if you'd like to email me your home address, I could mail you the tree that I have once I look at it and determined you have people you've mentioned in common. It is quite extensive, and would be fun as the gentleman who put it together was still alive a few years ago (2008?) when I was visiting NZ. He was a wealth of information and had done all of the work himself.

My e-mail is: ohsarra@yahoo.com

Let me know your preference.
Sara

I have a Thomas (Henry) Dodd - my G G Grandfather (known as Henry to the family) born in Hackney London and was a Cab Proprietor as well as a merhcant seaman at one point. HIs parent seem to be James Dodd and Lydia (nee Fitkin) . Thomas (Henry's) children in London were William (possibly William Henry) and George. Henry's (Thomas's) first wife Ann Phillis (nee White) died around the time of the second birth about 1853. I am trying to link all this up some how. Could they have ended up on the poor house or workhouse as orphans???? Thomas (Henry) Dodd married Harriet Julia Hopwood and moved to New Zealand and fathered many other children one of whom is my G Grandmother Martha Phillis Dodd (m. James) Does this ring any bells for anyone??
thanks for any tips or info.
Craig

Hi Sara,
I am wondering if you have information on Dodds from Canterbury in New Zealand. My Great Great Grandfather was Thomas (Henry) Dodd and his daughter Martha Phillis Dodd ( m. James) was my Great Grandmother. Thomas was born in Hackney London and died in Christchurch, NZ. He married Harriet Julia Hopwood and also seems to have had a first wife in England named Ann Phillis (nee White). It seem he might have had two sons in England - who seem to just disappear - George and William and he also had many children in NZ with his wife Harriet - I have most of them on my tree. I have not been able to get much information as I am not living in NZ anymore and the Dodds are particularly elusive for me to boot. Thank you for your time and if anyone has a seed of information on this family please reply. Many thanks! Craig

I have that Cynthia was the daughter of Hollingsworth Vandiver (c.1774-1836) and Barbara Cox (c.1774-after 1850) and granddaughter of Hollingsworth Vandever (1730-1820) and Mary E.
I have some records from widow application claim for pension for Mary Fowler Harbin (later Ward) and Cynthia Vandiver was in attendance at births of James and Anderson, but they are not sons of William Carroll Harbin, but grandsons. They are sons of Mary Fowler and John Hollingsworth Harbin. There is a death record of some type that a family member has that Anderson's daughter claimed that her dad was the son of William, but that is not the case. However, William, outliving John who died during the civil war played a part in raising Anderson - my great grandfather.

Border Reiver Dodd Family - North Tynedale, UK

My earliest Dodd is David Dodd, born 1690 in Virginia. Family legend says we are Scotch-Irish. DNA Haplogroup is I1 (Anglo-Saxon group). My theory is that we are descendents of the Dodd clan from North Tynedale. Of course, I have no proof. Perhaps somebody can offer some additional clues? Thanks!
