Sorry, I got a bit confused! I don't know of any connection with Thomas Dodds and Denney, but possibly Thomas was a cousin of my family. I looked up Thomas and Denney on familysearch.com and see that they moved to Yorkshire and that there were 3 Josephs baptised in 1770, 1780 and 1785. I assume that the last of these is your ancestor? It also gave Thomas' date of birth as about 1742. There were a few possible candidates around this date in Durham on the IGI. I hope that we will find a connection eventually!
