I was most interested in your information on the Dodds from Illinois/Iowa. My husband was related to Elizabeth (Eliza) Jane Dodds. I have been trying to sort this family out for soome time. I have two letters from Amanda Hicks and she states her mother was Mary Hayes, daughter of Susan (born in N. Carolina) and James Hayes. I have no dates for these two. Mary had three brothers: John, Thomas, and Bluford. Again, no dates. Mary married a Jacob (or John) Wallace and had two known children, a boy, and Susan. Susan was born after Wallace died. Mary then married Joseph Dodds (which I have suspected and you confirm. They had John and Amanda. I have no records of the other children. When Dodds died Mary married James Quinn and they had two daughters. Yes, I believe Mary went by the nickname of Polly. All my records indicate that the father of John David Dodds was Samuel, born in England or Ireland and the mother was a Sarah Johnson, born in S. Caroliina. In addtion to Joseph and John David, there was another brother, James, and two sisters, Mary and Jane. Mary was born in 1804, James in 1801. I don't know when Joseph or Jane were born. Jane married an Ezra lanear (or Lensar or Laner, or even possibly Lanier) but I haven't been able to find anything on them. I pulled this off of someone's posted records. I have a couple of letters from Amanda Hicks to my husband's great-grandmother and also a couple of letters from Nora Dodds (Charles Wallace Dodds' wife).
