I am descended from the Dodds family of county Durham. My branch of the family ended up in Haughton-le-Skerne and Darlington, but also passed through Winston, Auckland and other parts of the county. Some members of the family emigrated to Australia. If you might be connected, please contact me - I have a lot of information to share.

John Dodds mar. Margaret King, 1829, Butler co., PA

Hello again Dodds family researchers. I'm hoping someone can help me with the family of John Dodds, b.c. 1795 in PA, and his second wife Margaret King, b.c. 1799 in PA. I believe I now know who Margaret King was (not proven but fairly certain). Susan King, living with them in 1850 and 1860, was Margaret's sister (also not entirely proven). I need help with the children of John Dodds and Margaret King. I have four:
1) Susan Dodds, b.c. 1830
2) Isaiah Lawrence Dodds, b.c. 1834
3) Sarah J. Dodds, b.c. 1839
4) George Harvey Dodds, b.c. 1842
Were there others? And who were the two young boys in the John Dodds household in 1830? What happened to the children from John's first marriage? Any help very much appreciated, and of course I will gladly share any info I have. Thanks, Bill King.

John Dodds mar. Margaret King, Butler Co., PA, 1829

According to the Butler Co., PA, marriage records, John Dodds and Margaret King were married there by Rev. Niblock in 1829. According to the censuses, Margaret King Dodds was b.c.1800. Living with them was Susan King, b.c.1795. Can anyone tell me who Margaret and Susan King were? I speculate they were somehow related to George King, perhaps sisters, but my evidence is circumstantial. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Dodds families in Durham

I am currently researching my family tree which includes the Dodds surname which was my mothers maiden name. I have found my gg Grandparents and siblings on the 1861 Durham census, but in my research I have found another 96 seperate entries of the Dodds name, with still loads of returns to look through. I am not advertising to do look ups as it is a nightmare trying to find people with few details about them and the copywrite does not allow me to anyway. But if any Dodds's out there have any family in Durham in 1861 I would be happy to see if they are in one of the 96 Dodds families I have found in Durham up to now, you never know we might be related.
Dodds of Arkansas (pre-1870's)

i am trying to find info of the ancestry of Thomas H. Dodds and Frank M.
Dodds. here is some background info.

these two men were living in Socorro County, New Mexico during the 1900
census. the two man state that they were born in Arkansas, but the rest
differs:
Frank M. Dodds, born in Arkansas, father born in Georgia, mother in Virginia
Thomas H. Dodds, born Arkansas, father and mother in Missouri.

Frank was 55 years old, born in Nov. 1844 and been married to Alice (native
of Ireland) for 19 years and two children in the household: William
(stepson) age 23 and Lilly (daughter) age 16.

Thomas H. Dodds was 62 years old, born in Oct. 1837 and been married to
Martha L. (age 34, born in New Mexico, her father was born in Ohio and
mother in NM) for 12 years. they had two kids in the household: Thomas J.
R. Dodds (son) age 3 and Ruth (daughter) age 1.

Frank and Thomas Sr. must be related (cousins or brothers). i hope someone
know anymore about their ancestry.

bye for now, sam-quito

DODDS family from Glasserton, Wigtownshire

I just recently discovered this branch of my family and was wondering if anyone else can connect to it.

Marion (marrion/marron) Morrisson and John Dodds married About 1810, Glasserton, Wigtown (no marriage record)

Marion Dodds, nee Morrison born About 1790, Glasserton, Wigtown, Father possibly Alexander Morrison (no birth record)

John Dodds born about 1785 Ireland (no birth record)

Children of Marion and John Dodds

Extracted entry's from IGI
(Batch Number C118852)

-John Dodds, Chnd. 14 Aug 1809
-John Dodds, Chnd. 3 May 1810
-Margaret Hannay Dodds, Chnd. 5 Aug 1811
-Agnes Dodds, Chnd. 24 Mar 1812
-Thomas Dodds, Chnd. 2 May 1814
-Margaret Dodds, Chnd. 7 Aug 1816
-Ann Dodds, Chnd. 1 June 1819

(Batch Number C118854)

-James Dodds, b. 3 May 1810
-Ann Dodds, b. 1818
-John Dodds, b. 25 July 1821
-Elizabeth Dodds, b. 6 July 1823
-Elisabeth Dodds, Chnd. 12 Jan 1825
-Marrion Dodds, b. 23 Oct 1825
-Robina Dodds, Chnd. 5 Apr 1831
-Marion Dodds, Chnd. 15 Aug 1835

Submitted Entry
(File Number 458100)

-William Dodds, Chnd. 22 Feb 1823

I am confused because there is a birth entry for James Dodds (C118854) on 3 May 1810 and there is also a Christening entry for a John Dodds on 3 May 1810 (C118852). Both of these entry's are extracted so therefore should be reliable however it seems strange to me that they would have one son christened on the day that the mother gave birth to another son.

Is it possible that it is the same son ?

Also, Is the 2 entry's for Ann Dodds; born 1818, christened 1 June 1819, for the same daughter or was their possibly 2 Ann's born within a year of one another ?

Same again for Eli(z)abeth b. 6 July 1823 and Eli(s)abeth chnd. 12 Jan 1825, 2 daughters or 1 daughter christened late ?

I do have the family on the 1841 census and the 1851 census but there is a lot of difference's in their ages so that doesn't help much.

1841 Census, Glasserton, Wigtownshire (Freecen)
Address - Drumrae
John Dodds, M, 50, Farmer, b.
I was wondering about the information that you may have on the Dodds line.
My research has led me back to James Dodds b1823 Chirnside, he is a son of John and Isabella Rennie.
Isabella is, I believe, the Renny Bowmaker that is listed in the indexes.
I have found 3 other brothers David b.1818, David Bowmaker b.1819 and Thomas b.1824 Longformacus.
Is there a connection with your research?
Thanks in advance,
Car

Hello! My great-great grandmother (Mary Warren Boddy) had a sister named Harriet (Harriett) who married Matthew DODDS in 1873 in Warsaw, Wyoming County, NY. He emigrated from Yorkshire, England, in 1864 or 1865. They moved to Minnesota (near Sauk Centre) in 1882. By the 1900 census, however, they had moved to Seattle and then I can find no further trace of them. They had three children: Margaret L (I think the L is for Luella), Bertha E. (born Mar 1878), and Walter A. (born 1880 and died 1891). All the children were born in Wyoming County, New York. Harriet also had a son named Clayton Milo, born c 1867, who took the last name of Dodds. I would be delighted to hear from anyone related to this family.
Sincerely, Patricia Boddy Tharp

Esther Elizabeth Dodds b. 1845 France British Subject

I have been trying to figure out the family relationships of this person. She first came to my notice in the 1861 census, Northumberland, in the family of Michael Blenkinsop (a direct ancestor of mine) aged 16, identified as his niece. Her place of birth is given as France, and she is a British Subject.
Further searches revealed the following:
1) 1851 census, Northumberland, grand-daughter, aged 6, of John Arthur. Born France, British Subject.
2) 1870 marriage to Thomas Rule; age 26, father William Dodds, a farmer. A witness was Michael Blenkinsop, confirming at least some connection there.
3) 1871 census, Co Durham, wife, age 27, of Thomas Rule. Born France.

Esther would have been born around 1845. What was a Northumberland farmer and/or his wife doing in France at that time?
Anyone with a connection here?

Cheers,
Ian

Hello to fellow searchers for the DODDS family. I have a William DODDS born in Berwick on Tweed 1820s whose father was John DODDS a mason, and mother Rannie BOWMAKER. Immigrated to Lanark, Ontario, Canada abt 1830.
I have a Mary Dodds Keiss, born I think 10th May 1893. She married James Dryburgh August 20th 1913 in Roxburgh. He was born possibly 23-Jan-1887and was in the Northern Division Army Veterinary Corps.Their children were Jean, Arthur and Shena. Shena was my mother in law born 18-Dec-1915 and died 26-Apr-2001. I remember visiting Mary in 1980, as far as I remember she was living just outside Coldstream at the time, she lived until she was about 96 years old. Possibly one of 12 children. Any information would be appreciated

Ethel Dodds - daughter of a Pickard

Hi everyone, I am searching for information on my grandfather Bob Pickard's half sister; Ethel Dodds. She is older than all the rest of the children by about 5 to 10 years, and she died about 5 to 10 years ago, so around the mid 1990's. Because she was illegitimate she was shunned by some of my family. Her father's name was Harry Frederick Pickard from Grand Rapids, Michigan, and her mother's lastname was Dodds. I believe she might've taken her mother's name at birth instead of Pickard because they weren't married.
My Aunt told me something about her leaving Michigan and going to Texas to live with some relatives. As far as we know she didn't have any children. Anyone who knows who Ethel Dodds is, or thinks there might be a connection - please email me!! :)
Ruby K WRITERRUBY@AOL.COM

DODDS, Ann(a) M. and Esther in Westmoreland Cty, PA

I'm looking for a Dodds family that was in Westmoreland County, PA, in the 1800s.

1. Ann(a) M. Dodds (also "Hannah"?)
Born 1831 in Pennsylvania
Died 1918 in Westmoreland County, PA (Youngstown)
Married Andrew Smith in 1854 in Westmoreland County, PA
Parents both born in PA too.

Anna is sometimes referred to in various documents as Anna, sometimes Ann M., Anna M. and Anna Matilda; also possibly Hannah, as well. I believe I have a picture of Anna M. with her husband Andrew Smith. :)

2.) Esther Dodds
Born 1810 (gravestone info - buried in Youngstown, Westmoreland County, PA)
Died 1901 (gravestone info)
Mother of Anna M., above.
In census records, looks like she had 12 children, 7 living, by 1900.
I have very little data on Esther. I have no idea who her husband was, much less what her maiden name was. :( I know she was born in PA, and her parents were too, and that's all. She just starts to show up on census reports living near or with Anna M. and Andrew Smith in 1870 as a widow. Now, she wasn't living w/them in 1880 (at least that was recorded in the census) and I can't find her in 1880 in any census records. However, in the 1900 census, she and Anna are living together as again, both as widows, in Youngstown, PA.

Her gravestone gives her name, birth and death dates, and the words "Our mother". She is buried next to John B. Dodds, born 1846, died 1936, and John's wife. Could John and Anna have been brother and sister, children of Esther's? Or no relation at all? Both of Esther's parents were born in PA, but that is all I know of them.

Thanks to anybody who has any info on my relatives! :) I'm very, very curious to know who they were!

-Janice

Dodds family in Kentucky

I am looking on information about my grandfather, Frankie Lee Dodds. His wife Ruby Harrison Cagle separated in the mid 50's and he remained estranged from most of his family until his death in 1974. He lived in the Hickman and Fulton areas in Kentucky with possibly more family in Smithland. He had a brother named Milton. Either by divorce or death his mother Mattie Ann remarried a Smith and bore two more sons Jesse and WIllie who lived in Missouri. I would be MOST grateful for any information to help fill in this gaping hole in my family history.
