Hi. So far I have not run across a Herbert. My line starts with Jacob Doll, abt 1816-1870. Since the great Chicago fire of 1871 destroyed many records, it has been difficult to find out much about him. He was married to Elizabeth, 1815-1891. Both were born in Prussia. They had three children, John, 1851-1924,Elizabeth, 1856-1898, and Angela, 1859-1905. Angela was my Great-grandmother who married Joseph Eberle.

Deb

I know that there are a lot of Williams and Karls in the the family but that is all I really know at this time.

John and Minnie Doll were divorced Oct 1, 1880. The census that soon followed listed Minnie as "widowed", hence the confusion over how John could then have died in 1893, as it is listed in the St. Louis death index. Considering the stigma attached to divorce at the time, it was perhaps more honorable to have it recorded that Minnie was "widowed" rather than "divorced".

Jacob Doll - son of Konrad Doll from Katharinental?

I am on a quest to find information about the children of Konrad Doll, B: 1806 in Baden Germany, D: aft 1845 in Katharinental, Beresan, Russia. The 1858 census of Katharinental shows a son Jacob who is 16 years old (making his DOB 1842). I have a Jacob Doll born in 1842 in Katharinental, who came to America in 1907 with two of his children, Adam and Leocadia Kuntz (her husband, John Kuntz, died in Romania). Adam's wife and family and Leocadia's children are traveling with them. They are traveling to Richardson, ND to be with another son of Jacob's, Walentine.

I cannot prove that my husband's great grandfather, Jacob (born in 1842), is the son of Konrad... but everything points to it. If anybody has any information or can lead me in the right direction it sure would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I believe I have a Konrad Doll (not the Conrad mentioned in the post) in my husband's family who is John Doll's great grand uncle. This would make John Doll my husband's third cousin 3x removed. The reason I'm writing is because I'm looking for Konrad Doll's children... specifically Jacob Doll, who is my husband's 3rd great grandfather. I have no proof that my Jacob Doll is Konrad's son... there is a Jacob Doll who is a son of Konrad Doll in the 1858 census of Katharinental, but I can't prove he is our Jacob who immigrated to the U.S. in 1907. If anybody has any information or can lead me in the right direction it sure would be appreciated! Thanks!

I'm trying to find out info about the Doll's out in Chicago. I heard a story from my dad where I don't know if it was his grandpa, or great grandpa, or anything further then that had many siblings, and when he was born his oldest sister took him with her when she moved out. My family has no idea who any of the siblings are and no info about the oldest sister either. I think he said this happened in Chicago as well, so I'm curious about the history of all of your last names to see if we have a match?

I just know I'm German and one of my great grand parents shortened his last name to Doll to sound more American when he moved here. Something like that?

I'm not sure what else to say, I'm hoping to here back from someone though

I believe you are looking for the parents of Jacob W. Doll born by my records in 1833 and not 1836. However, I have no positive proof for either date. The reason why I feel this is probably the same JWD you are looking for is because the Jacob you are seeking died in Iowa and 4 of his 10 siblings died in Keouk County Iowa. They are buried in the Thomas Cemetary. I do not have the death locations for the other 6 children. The mother, Jane Thomas Doll, died 5/18/1882 in Keouk Co Iowa and is buried in the Thomas Cemetary. After Abraham Died in Preston Co VA in 1849, she must have come west with some of her children. I would be very interested in learning more about the Dolls in Iowa.

JWD's parents were Abraham Doll and Jane Thomas. I can furnish all the Doll information back to the 1500's for JWD's ancestors.

Wick Doll
warwick1@bellsouth.net

I have a question about your Doll Family Tree. You and I agree on the Dolls from Joseph Doll born 1747 back to the original Dolls in Bretten Germany. I come from Johannes Doll and Johannes' son Johannes who is the brother of Joseph. However, I am still fascinated with the Dolls and I have been successful in connecting about 800 together. All of these come from the Dolls in Bretten. My difficulty is that the information I had been given on Joseph's family also showed he and Charlotte Sturm had 14 children. The names of all 14 agree with your family tree. However, the John I have in their family was born in 1776 not 1802. The John from 1776 married Susana Kurz and they had two children in Frederick MD, David b 1800 and Thomas born 1802. Charlotte Sturm would have been 50 years old when the John you mention was born.

I am struggling to identify several Dolls who ended up in upper Ohio and the John born in 1802 is certainly one.

Please send me an E-mail warwick1@bellsouth.net because I would very much like to know about the Dolls who ended up in Ohio and how they are connectd to the Dolls from Bretten.

Wick Doll

From a separate standpoint I agree with Debra's 1850 census. A Doll family researcher, Kim Clair, gave me the list of children of Abraham and Jane in 1993. My list from Kim and the 1850 census data both identify a Jacob W. Doll as being born by the census as 1833. Kim's information does not indicate Jacob had a second wife.

Jacob's parents were Abraham Doll (b. 9/14/1802 in Virginia d. 6/25/1849 Preston County VA (WV) and Jane Thomas 11/7/1803 d. 5/18/1882 in Keouk Co. Iowa Thomas Cemetery. Jacob was born in Virginia - I don't have his actual birth location, but one of his older brothers, Aaron Thomas was born in Mineral County VA, and a younger brother James H. Doll was born in Hampshire County VA. I expect that he was born at the Doll homeplace on Knobley Mountain in Mineral County.

Abraham and Jane moved from what later became WV to Iowa because all the burial locations I have for their children were in Keouk Co. Iowa Thomas Cemetery. I do not know if they moved part way and stopped or whether they made the move all at one time.

I can furnish ancestry data for Abraham Doll back to the 1500's. Jacob's great great grandfather was Johannes Doll who moved his family from Bretten Germany to Lancaster PA in 1743. Abraham's father Jacob was born on Knobley Mt. in the WV panhandle. This property on Knobley Mt. was originally owned by Nancy Hanks (mother of Abraham Linconl) family, and the Dolls lived in the Hanks's cabin when they left. I have no data on Jane Thomas' parents. I do have a note that "The Jacob Dolls (JWD's granfather) and the Thomases were close neighbors and several inter-family marriages resulted. If you are searching for Thomas families look in and around Knobley Mountain WV.

Please let me know what else I can furnish. As a hobby, I am working hard to connect as many Dolls as possible. I, therefore, would like it if you would share all information you have for the Dolls in Iowa as well as any other Doll information. I will add it to my Family Tree Maker and would be willing to furnish you as much information as you would like.

Thanks,
Wick Doll warwick1@bellsouth.net

Doll Family in California

My gr grandfather Josiah Doll, b.Mar.04,1829, settled in Siskiyou Co Calif after leaving his home in Stark Co Ohio in 1852 - he came with a brother Joseph and 2 cousins. He married Catherine Simon, b. Jun 09, 1846 in Metz Germany, in Ashland Co Ohio Feb 22 1869. 6 children, Susan, Abbie (my grandmother), Francis (Frank), Charles, Mae & Louisa (who lived 18 mos).

I'm not familiar with the children of Frank or Charles (i don't know if Frank ever married, & Charles was divorced and my grandmother lost touch with him.)

Thank you for the reply Caroline. I do not believe we have a connection. My Henry married Matilda Seifert, they had 7 children and none were named Franklin, Sarah or Christopher. They first appear in the Upper Milford area of Lehigh County PA in 1850 minus the paternal information I am seeking. Thank you for sharing and please feel free to contact me in the future if I can be of service to you.

I have a Benjamin b.1845, Henry b.1841, Daniel b.1843 all brothers, born to Samuel Dull b.1815 and Sarah Hollinger b.1821. Henry and Daniel were born in Franklin Co, Pennsylvania as was their father Samuel. Samuel died 1886 in Wayne County, Ohio. I do not have middle initials for these people.
Henry married a Mary and had 3 children: Franklin, Sarah, and Christopher. But I do not have any information for
Benjamin or Daniel.

Samuel and Sarah had at least 10 children.
Does this sound like the right people?

Caroline
That would be great, thank you. I'm not sure if my Henry Doll is connected to your Henry. I have Benjamin W F, Henry A and Daniel E (brothers)all born between 1843 and 1849. I cannot find their father but their mother's name was Magdalena (aka Anna,Mary,Polly)born about 1806 in Pennsylvania.
