I am a cousin of Werner Donges in Koeln and Geoff Donges in Australia. In 2000 Werner took my mother and me to Wollmar, Kurhessen in Germany to see where our ancestors originated. We found about a book publishes in 1999 about Wollmar - Hofe, Hauser und Familien (The Land, Houses and Families). It is a genealogical treasure trove. You can get the book from:
Werner Holzapfel
Dorfstrasse 28
35117 Wollmar
Germany

My GGGGrandmother was Elizabetha Donges born in Wollmar 17 Nov 1795 and she died in Baltimore. MD 20 Jan 1853. Her father was Johann Henrich Donges b. 23 Apr 1741 and his father was Johannes Donges.

According to what my cousin Werner told us, our Donges ancestors came up the Loire River from Donges, France after the revocation of the Edit of Nantes. These ancestors were French Huguenots. There had been a Duc de Donges on the Atlantic coast of France at the mouth of the Loire River. This town was destroyed in WWII because it had an oil refinery next to it.

Go find Geoff's web page using google. He has a lot of information on it about the family. Good Luck.
I am searching for information on the Donges family. My ancestor Henri Donges immigrated to the US around 1820-1840. I know very little about where he came from except that one of his children was supposedly born in Josbach, Kurhessen. If you can help I would be very grateful.
